The ‘Star Wars’ Films WILL Be Released In 3D

Posted: 29 Sep 2010 02:30 PM PDT

Back in January we heard rumors that George Lucas was thinking about re-releasing the entire Star Wars film franchise, Episodes I – VI, in theaters in 3D. Today we have confirmation that Lucas will, indeed, release all of the Star Wars films in 3D starting in 2012:

George Lucas watched the massive success of "Avatar" and "Alice in Wonderland" in the 3-D format and decided it was time for a return of the Jedi. "Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace" will return to theaters in 3-D in 2012 and will be followed in the stereoscopic format by the five other live-action movies set a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away. Lucas' Industrial Light & Magic special-effects shop is overseeing the 3-D conversion. 20th Century Fox will release them, as it has done for all previous "Star Wars" films. Lucas has said publicly on more than one occasion that the technological strides of James Cameron's "Avatar" persuaded him to reconsider his longtime disdain for 3-D … In a press release LucasFilm is expected to put out soon that was obtained by The Times, ILM visual effects supervisor John Knoll made clear that his company doesn't intend to put out a sub-par 3-D conversion. Some conversions done in a rush have turned off moviegoers and critics. "Getting good results on a stereo conversion is a matter of taking the time and getting it right," Knoll said in a statement. "It takes a critical and artistic eye along with an incredible attention to detail to be successful. It is not something that you can rush if you want to expect good results. For 'Star Wars' we will take our time, applying everything we know both aesthetically and technically to bring audiences a fantastic new 'Star Wars' experience."

While I know there are a lot of folks feeling 3D fatigue, I am still a big fan of the format and I am REALLY excited that the Star Wars films will be available in theaters AGAIN and in 3D! I fully trust George Lucas and ILM and have no doubt they will do an amazing job with the 3D conversion. I fondly remember when the Star Wars films were re-released in theaters in the early 2000′s … I am very much looking forward to seeing them all AGAIN on the big screen :D

Beyoncé Likes To Dance With The Regular Folk

Posted: 29 Sep 2010 02:12 PM PDT

On a recent visit to New Jersey to spend time with Jay-Z‘s mom, Beyoncé decided to hang out with some of the neighborhood girls who were dancing together in the streets outside … proving that B ain’t too famous or too cool to chill with the regular folk:

It’s not a secret that Beyonce loves to dance. But even on one of her rare days of the Single Ladies singer couldn’t stay away from the dancefloor and she crashed a street party in New Jersey to join in with a formation dance. Beyonce, 29, was apparently visiting Jay-Z’s mother last weekend when she heard music coming from outside. And she couldn’t help but join in with the line-dance with a group of girls who looked slightly astonished but kept their cool as she followed them in the Wobble dance. The Wobble is based on song by rapper V.I.C.’s single of the same name which was released in 2008 … But dressed in super-high heels, jeans and a T-shirt, the singer seemed to be enjoying herself.

How much do I LOVE this? Beyoncé likes to keep it real, y’all. This is just way too much awesome :D

Robert Pattinson Shows Off His New Beard In SoCal

Posted: 29 Sep 2010 01:49 PM PDT

In August we learned that Jake Gyllenhaal grew one, then a few weeks later we learned that Zac Efron grew one … today we learn that Robert Pattinson has joined the Bearded Bunch as he showed off his bushy new facial hair at LAX Airport here in SoCal last night:

Things have been getting hairy in Hollywood for awhile now … And Robert Pattinson, it seems, is next to ditch the razor. The star was snapped at LAX Tuesday debuting a scruffy new mountain man look that left him almost unrecognizable as the same shimmer-skinned vampire that he played in Twilight.

I’d have to say that R. Pattz‘s new beard is more on the sexy side — like Jake‘s, and less on the silly, thin side — like Zac‘s. I’m not sure if Rob is growing his bush of beard for a role or just to sexy up his image but … me likey. Do you?

The New ‘American Idol’ Judges Get To Work

Posted: 29 Sep 2010 01:29 PM PDT

Last week we learned officially that Steven Tyler, Jennifer Lopez and Randy Jackson had been signed to judge the 10th season of American Idol and today we learn that the new judges have already started their judging duties. Steven, J. Lo and Randy (along with hanger-oner Ryan Seacrest) were on hand to judge auditions this week and producer Nigel Lythgoe decided to share a photo on his official Twitter profile:

It’s great to be back on American Idol. The judges were great.

While I’m still not convinced that this new AI judging panel will be the show’s saving grace that so many people are hoping and praying for, at least we know that they are hard at work to try and fix the show. I mean … just seeing these 3 sitting at the judging desk just looks so wrong. I fear this judging panel is gonna be a big flop. I can feel it my bones.

Will Natalie Portman Play Lois Lane In The New Superman Film?

Posted: 29 Sep 2010 01:15 PM PDT

Yesterday we learned that director Darren Aronofsky‘s name has been added to the shortlist of directors who may be helming the upcoming new Superman film. Today we are hearing that actress Natalie Portman, who stars in Aronofsky‘s upcoming new film Black Swan, may be cast as Lois Lane in the film … should Aronofsky get the job directing the Superman film:

Natalie Portman might get a chance to romance another superhero in her next movie. After taking the female lead role in “Thor”, the brunette is now rumored to portray the love interest of Clark Kent, Lois Lane, in the new “Superman” film. Breaking the report is Moviehole which says a crew member of Darren Aronofsky’s “Black Swan” tells them that the helmer has actually “been talking about this for a while” and that they don’t think talks have “progressed beyond the suggestion of having Nat[alie Portman] be Lois.” The source adds, “They wanted her first time around, this time they can get her – with Darren. But who knows where that’s at now. …nothing on paper yet.” Portman and Aronofsky have worked together for “Black Swan” … Aronofsky is only one of the helmers who are reportedly considered to direct “Superman” … The next “Superman” movie, which is tentatively called “The Man of Steel”, has a script written by David Goyer. Nolan, meanwhile, is tapped to play “godfather” on the project. Warner Bros. is expected to have released the film by 2012 because they stand to lose certain rights to the iconic character in 2013.

Brilliant, Brilliant casting. I really hated Kate Bosworth as Lois in Superman Returns … like, intensely. She is, IMHO, a terrible actress and totally ruined the iconic comic book character. I think Natalie Portman would make a fantastic Lois Lane and I hope she gets the job. I’m also hoping that Darren Aronofsky gets the Superman directing gig as well … I think his vision would truly help revive the semi-dead Superman franchise.

‘Hatchet’ Job

Posted: 29 Sep 2010 12:50 PM PDT

Last night my friend Darion and I made our way out to Grauman’s Egyptian Theater for the Hollywood premiere of the uberfun slasher flick Hatchet II. After the original film, Hatchet, got into a bit of trouble with the MPAA over its movie rating, director/writer Adam Green decided to tell the MPAA to eff off and has decided to release Hatchet II without a rating … making it the first film to be in wide release without an MPAA rating in about 25 years. As a fan of silly fun horror, I was really excited to be among the first folks to see Hatchet II:

Citizen Kane it is not … but what Hatchet II is is a bloody funfest of classic horror movie madness. The Hatchet films, which feature new horror monster star Victor Crowley, are a fun nod to the slasher flicks of the 70s and 80s and are just a good ol’ fashioned fun time at the movies. While the plot is pretty text book, the situations are kinda funny and the death scenes are over-the-top ridiculous. Most of the time, all you see is gallons of fake blood spilling onto walls, trees or the ground. Yes, there are inventive and painfully gross looking deaths but Hatchet II is more fun than disgusting. I’m telling you, I’ve learned new ways I do NOT want to die … which include belt sanders, extra long chainsaws and, of course, hatchets. This movie may not be for everyone but if you’re looking for a fun movie to see this Halloween … go see Hatchet II. If this movie does well, it could signal the end of the influence of the shadowy and totally unnecessary MPAA ratings board here in the US. Darion and I had a great time seeing this movie … so much so, we plan on paying to see it again just to make the point.

At last night’s premiere, we got to meet the film’s star Danielle Harris (who is something of a young Scream Queen Jamie Lee Curtis). After the jump, check out some of the fun photos we snapped last night …

Much like Jamie Lee Curtis did in her horror films of the early 80s, Danielle Harris is making a name for herself in the new horror films of today (coincidentally, Danielle starred in the Rob Zombie remake of Halloween … and, of course, JLC starred in the original John Carpenter version). She was super sweet and it was very nice meeting her and director Adam Green last night.

We had a blast … ’twas a fun night out in Hollywood.

Tonight … I’m doing nothing. I have a lot of reading to get thru and I really want to watch the Swedish film Let The Right One In so … I’m gonna stay holed up here at home. Not a bad way to spend a Hump Day ;)

‘Britney/Brittany’ Set The Record As The Highest Rated Episode Of ‘Glee’

Posted: 29 Sep 2010 11:17 AM PDT

Last night Fox aired the AMAZING Britney Spears Episode of Glee titled Britney/Brittany and managed to set a new series ratings record. Britney/Brittany managed to pull in more than 13 million viewers and became the show’s highest rated episode ever!

ABC’s “No Ordinary Family” got off to an impressively strong start Tuesday night while Fox’s “Glee” rose in the ratings to a series high thanks to its eagerly anticipated tribute to Britney Spears. “Glee” drew 13.3 million viewers and a 5.8 preliminary adults 18-49 rating — dominating the night, rising 4% from its mammoth premiere last week and scoring the pop-drama’s biggest rating ever (yes, higher than the show’s Madonna-themed episode) … Here’s interesting factoid about “Glee” from the Fox ratings department: “This is the first time in 17 years that the highest-rated entertainment program of premiere week grew in Week 2 among adults 18-49 and total viewers (since Fall ’93, ‘Seinfeld’)” … Fox won the night.

Folks … that is the power of a Living Legend. Congrats all around. As those among the 13.3 million of you who watched Glee last night already know, our dear Britney Spears made 3 different cameos thruout the episode:

She appeared in the hallucinated performances of her hit songs Me Against the Music, Baby One More Time and Stronger. After the jump, check out video of Britney‘s brief but memorable cameos on Glee last night …

Bow down to the Queen, y’all. Personally, I loved her cameo in Baby One More Time the most even tho she had more lines in the Stronger cameo … but overall, I loved the ep entirely. Yes, there were some cheesy bits but it was a fun ep that paid homage to Britney is a very cool, very fun way. My guess is that Britney will have a much larger role the next time she appears in Glee … and that ep is likely to score even higher ratings than last night’s ep did. What did y’all think? Did yo love it as much as I did? How amazing was it to see Britney honored in such a fun way? LOVED IT ALL!!!

PS: Wanna watch the whole Britney/Brittany ep again? Well, you can watch it in its entirety right here:

Enjoy!!

Are You Ready For ‘The Real Housewives Of Miami’?

Posted: 29 Sep 2010 10:55 AM PDT

According to a new report, the reality TV series formerly known as Miami Social Club has been renamed and retooled to become The Real Housewives of Miami. Altho Bravo TV will not yet confirm the change, E! News seems confident that Mimi will be the latest city to join the Real Housewives franchise:

There might be a new franchise of “The Real Housewives” which some participating women are those basketball players’ wives. E! Online reported that “Miami Social Club” which was announced previously has been flipped to become “The Real Housewives of Miami”. The series has been shot with Scottie Pippen’s wife, Larsa, and former L.A. Laker/Miami Heat player Glen Rice’s ex-wife, Christy. Other names … [include] art scene socialite Adriana Sidi, Venue Magazine editor Alexia Echeverria, public relations expert Marysol Patton, drag queen of South Beach Elaine Lancaster and charity planner Lea Black, wife of famous defense attorney Roy Black. But since the show was initially shot for another title and format, “Real Housewives of Miami” will feature less catfight between the women that the other franchises have been relying on for some rating. “It’s going to be a tamer, sexier show,” an insider said. When asked whether this convert to “Real Housewives” franchise is true or not, a rep for the show said, “We announced a show in development called Miami Social Club. Beyond that, we have no further information.” The show will be aired in between November and January since filming has been wrapped up for the first season.

HMMM … as interesting as this sounds, I’m not quite sure that I believe it. I seems odd to me that Bravo, who has enjoyed much success with its Real Housewives franchise, would just change the name of a show and make it a Real Housewives series. I think if they truly wanted to do a Miami Housewives series, they would do it right from the beginning. That being said, these sorts of reality TV shows all tend to get made with the same formula so maybe the name-change was no big deal. I suppose we’ll have to wait and see if we will need to add The Real Housewives of Miami to our DVR recording schedules or not. What do y’all think … would you like to see the Housewives franchise invade Miami?

A Submarine Has Surfaced On The Set Of ‘Captain America: The First Avenger’

Posted: 29 Sep 2010 10:30 AM PDT

Last week we got to see some very cool, very interesting new photos of Chris Evans on the UK set of his new film Captain America: The First Avenger and today we get to check out another new photo from the set. Apparently, filming production has moved to Liverpool, England … and it now involves the use of a very cool-looking submarine ship:

he First Avenger: Captain America, directed by Joe Johnston, is due for release in the UK in July 2011. Captain America was first thought up to help encourage patriotic feeling during World War II. The big-budget film will tell the origin of Captain America, one of Marvel's most iconic superhero comic book characters. The story will follow a young soldier called Steve Rogers, who volunteers to undergo a series of experiments and becomes Captain America. Since it was first released, Marvel has sold more than 200 million copies of Captain America magazine in 75 countries.

I love how technology and vehicles used in comic book movies set in the past have a future-retro look. This submarine is clearly meant to look “old” but it looks somehow futuristic. The same can be said about how Gotham City looks in the Batman films. The Art Deco meets the Future look seems to be a very cool signature of big screen adaptations of comic books. This toy looks very cool, I can’t wait to see it in action.

Nicole Richie Signs Books, Does ‘Good Morning America’

Posted: 29 Sep 2010 09:54 AM PDT

Nicole Richie made her way to NYC this week to do some promo for the release of her new novel Priceless, which we learned was coming our way back in June when we got our first look at the tome’s cover artwork, and made an in-person appearance at a Borders bookstore last night to sign a few copies for some of her fans:

Earlier today, Nicole made an appearance on ABC‘s Good Morning America to talk about the release of her new book. After the jump, check out video of Nicole‘s appearance on GMA this morning and read an excerpt from her just-released novel Priceless

I just love Nicole … and I’m so glad that she decided to write another book. Her first novel, The Truth About Diamonds (which gives a shout out to Pink is the new Blog within its storyline), was so much fun to read … I am really looking forward to reading Priceless. I’ve already downloaded the Kindle version of Priceless and have it cued up and ready to go on my reading list. As a special treat for all you readers out there, you can read an excerpt from Priceless right here, right now:

Chapter 1

As the beautiful young woman strode through the international arrivals terminal at JFK, several people turned to look. A flight attendant noticed the way she carried herself, the clothes she wore, her shoes, and guessed she’d just walked out of first class. She was right. A young man pulling espresso paused, distracted by the girl’s obvious sexuality and lovely figure. She felt his gaze and turned slightly, favoring him with a brief smile that made his hand jump, causing him to scald himself. A man in a Savile Row suit lowered his Wall Street Journal and raised his eyebrows. Hmm. Charlotte Williams was back. Her father would be happy. The market would go up. He folded his paper and called his broker. Charlotte descended the escalator, scanning the crowd waiting for arrivals. She smiled; there was Davis. He caught her eye and smiled back. He already had her bags. “Hello, Davis, how nice to see a familiar face so soon.” She shook his hand. “Miss Charlotte, it’s a pleasure to have you back in New York. The city has been very quiet without you.” She laughed. “I doubt that, Davis, but thanks. Is the car very far? My shoes are killing me.” She’d worn sweats for the flight, but just before they began their descent, she’d changed into her city clothes. Louboutins, which were pinching her feet after only a hundred yards, a Marc Jacobs dress from spring ’09, with a wide wrapped belt, a cashmere sweater coat. Still comfortable and easy to wear but appropriate for public viewing. He shook his head. “Just outside, Miss.” Indeed, the long, low Mercedes was parked right in front, in a red zone, a cop very slowly writing a ticket for it. He saw them coming and looked around, making sure no one saw Davis slipping him a folded bill. Charlotte kicked off her shoes and relaxed as Davis expertly navigated the traffic back into town. It was very good to be home.

You can read the rest of this book excerpt HERE. As I said, I’m really looking forward to diving in and reading Nicole‘s new book. It’ll be interesting to see how her writing style has changed over the years … after all, a lot has changed since she wrote her last book. Are any of y’all planning on reading Nicole‘s book? Mebbe we should figure out how to discuss it in a couple of months in a book club sorta way … HMMM.

Kellan Lutz Is A Hot-Bodded Baller

Posted: 29 Sep 2010 08:57 AM PDT

Kellan Lutz stepped out to play a quick game of hoops with one of his friends outside his SoCal home this week in convenient view of the waiting paparazzi. Now, normally I would scoff at this kind of blatant showing-off but something about the sight of Mr. Lutz jumping around sans shirt makes the whole scenario seem A-OK in my book. The game was shirts vs. skins and very thankfully, Kellan was on team skins:

You’ll have to forget me for not including photos of Kellan‘s playmate but I can assure you he was wearing a shirt which, of course, made every photo he was featured in completely irrelevant. I’m not sure who won this game of one-on-one but I think it’s safe to say that with photos like these, we — the viewers — are the real winners :D

First Look: Rihanna, ‘Loud’

Posted: 29 Sep 2010 08:38 AM PDT

A few weeks ago we got our first look at the cover artwork for Rihanna‘s new single Only Girl (In The World) which is the lead single off her new album Loud, due out this Fall. Today we get our first look at the cover art for the album itself … Loud:

Unlike it’s namesake, the album art is anything but Loud. As much as I really do not like Rihanna‘s new Kool-Aid colored hair’do, I’m actually quite fond of this album art. It’s simple and pretty. You don’t get much more personal than an up-close photo of someone’s face. While the album title Loud seems to defy intimacy, the album cover seems to imply that the album may be more personal in nature. While the cover art for Rihanna‘s last album was in black and white, this one is in full vibrant color. I mean, it’s not groundbreaking by any means but it’s a nice, simple cover … and I actually like it. What do y’all think … do you like?

Lindsay Lohan Finds Some ‘Rest’ Before Going To Rehab

Posted: 29 Sep 2010 07:58 AM PDT

Yesterday we learned that Lindsay Lohan had checked herself in to an in-patient rehab facility outside of the LA city limits but today we get to see a photo (that CLEARLY wasn’t a staged photo op) of Lindsay enjoying her last moments of freedom before she packed up her bags and made her way to rehab. RadarOnline managed to get their hands on a photo of L. Lo that features the troubled starlet reading a self-help book written by Matthew Edlund titled The Power of Rest: Why Sleep Alone Is Not Enough. A 30-Day Plan to Reset Your Body which, I’m assuming, is meant to show the world that Lindsay is ready to rehabilitate her life:

Lindsay Lohan spent her last night of freedom before rehab reading a self-help book — and only RadarOnline.com has the exclusive photos of the troubled starlet from inside her West Hollywood apartment. Wearing a loose fitting black sleeveless dress with matching sunglasses, LiLo was snapped on her balcony at dusk reading The Power of Rest, written by Dr. Matthew Edlund. It's the latest statement from Lohan who is attempting to undergo an image makeover, before a critical October 22 court hearing that could end with her sent back to jail for 30 days for flunking a drug test … According to our source, Lohan is "tired of being the party girl" and turned to the self-help book for guidance to deal with a "terrible" and disrupted sleeping pattern. "Lindsay hopes to use this book to help restructure her sleeping patterns so she can function better," said the insider. "She has been shooting films into the wee hours of the morning since she was 11 or 12 years old and then sleeping in trailers while on the set … She was recommended the book by both a doctor and a friend and hopes it will guide her in the right direction."

My guess is that the implied message of this CLEARLY not-staged photo is to show the world that Lindsay‘s problems lie in her inability to sleep properly and not in her rampant and uncontrollable substance abuse? I mean … yeah. To be honest, the mere sight of Lindsay holding a book is a bit comical to me … especially the sight of her holding a book opened perfectly in the center while she reads standing up, leaning against a balcony railing … with her sunglasses on. I mean, that’s how I read books, don’t you? I suspect the real truth about this photo lies in how much it cost for her to pose for the snapshot. I understand Lindsay has been selling staged photos to the paparazzi in order to make some extra money. I’m not sure how much she got for this photo but I hope not a lot … for a CLEARLY not-staged photo, it’s not very good.
