The Daily WTF: Human Sculpture In NYC

Posted: 28 Sep 2010 11:35 AM PDT

Is there a blog called “Homeless or Art” yet? The folks above fall into the second category, though they’d probably appreciate a free sandwich. These brightly-clad kids took over downtown New York on sunday for a public performance called "Bodies in Urban Spaces.” Dozens of nimble-bodied artists participated in the show, which stopped passersby in their tracks.

The Wall Street Journal has a whole gallery of the performers wrapped around fire hydrants and scaffolding — and it’s pretty nifty stuff despite the high WTF-factor.

Eastbound & Down may have debuted on Sunday with new episodes on HBO, but that doesn’t mean you can’t catch up with the show’s hilarious first season now. We’re giving two lucky Facebook fans Eastbound & Down: The Complete First Season DVD sets, and all you have to do to enter is click here and hit the “Like” button by 5 p.m. EST on Sunday, October 3. It’s easier than teaching a rooster how to fight.

6 Ways 'The Event' Differs From 'Lost' and '24'

Posted: 28 Sep 2010 10:51 AM PDT

Last night was the second episode of The Event, which a lot of people are calling NBC’s attempt at “Lost meets 24,” two very popular shows that went off the air this year. And the show does seem to bite a lot from both those beloved cult programs style: there are tropical islands, a black president, and lots of plane crashes/fights with “others.” But as Damon Lindof, Lost’s creator, pointed out last night on Twitter, “I think THE EVENT is swell, but if 24 and LOST really had a baby it would hate both its parents and regularly engage in torture.”

And while we think Damon Lindof should shut up most of the time, he has a point. Here’s 6 other ways The Event has differentiated itself from its predecessors.

1. No creepy, incoherent whispering from either island ghosts or Jack Bauer.

2. Neither 24 nor Lost ever thought it would be a good idea to include a main character from The Gilmore Girls in a dramatic role. (Sorry, Luke.)

3. On Lost and 24, plane explosions usually involved the majority of the passengers dying in the explosion. Not afterwards, and inexplicably.

4. While Lost did feature some sort of time-space wormhole that deposited characters out in the desert, they ended up someplace cool like Tunisia. Not less than 2,000 miles away in Arizona.

5. Different kind of aliens than the ones dealt with on 24.

6. Lost focused on a spinal surgeon Jack Shephard, 24 on a counter-terrorist operative named Jack Bauer, and The Event on some stuttering kid named Sean Walker who doesn’t seem to have a vocation besides whining. (Maybe he’s a blogger?)

Video: Major 'Australia's Next Top Model' Goof

Things got super awkward during yesterday’s Australia’s Next Top Model finale after host Sarah Murdoch announced the wrong winner. This season, A(u)NTM decided to select its champ via an audience vote, and broadcasted the result live. The not-winner got halfway through her “I love my fans so much” speech before Sarah was informed of the mistake. Whoops!

We had no idea it would be so easy to feel bad for a model.

'Let Me In' Stars: Cutest Pre-Teens In The World?

Posted: 28 Sep 2010 10:22 AM PDT

We’re delighted by this pic of Kodi Smit-McPhee and Chloe Moretz from last night’s premiere of moody vampire flick Let Me In. There’s something great about how awkward it is, as if it were snapped during a middle school dance. Right after this, Chloe and Kodi are going to head back to their respective sides of the gym and glance furtively at one another while “Party in the USA” plays on the stereo.

We’re already huge fans of Chloe — who played the ultimate tough girl in Kick Ass — and can’t wait to see as a vampire in this remake of a Swedish film.

Video: Kids Do the Darndest Dave Grohl Covers

Admitedly, The Foo Fighters “Everlong” is one of my favorite music videos of all time (yeah, who owned that DVD box set of director music videos but lost in their college transition?! Holllllerr…), but Dave and Lauren’s cover might be better than the real thing.

Who are these kids and why are they playing music festivals like Electric Picnic? Where are their parents, and why haven’t they been signed to Columbia Records yet? The next Greyson Chance isn’t going to find himself, you know!

Though if that doesn’t work out, they can always go back to being extras in that MGMT video directed by Eric Wareheim.

Trend Alert Gallery: Fake Bachelorette Parties

Posted: 28 Sep 2010 10:13 AM PDT

For decades, women who had a fascination with plastic penises, boas and kissing random strangers have been forced to resist those urges until one of their friends announced an impending wedding. But no longer! Women around America are catching on that the secret to throwing good bachelorette parties lies more in the accessories than actually having a friend who plans to spend the rest of her life with someone.

Personally, bachelorette parties have always terrified me. But a quick visit to Google has opened my eyes to the fact many women actually enjoy going outdoors wearing penis shaped paraphernalia and cheap veils. Why? Let’s Watch!

Video Gallery: Best Of Before-They-Were-Famous 'Law & Order' Roles

What’s that old expression again? Nothing is certain but death, taxes and Law & Order? We can’t remember the last time we surfed the channels without coming across an episode of the franchise on one network or another. And all those eps mean a whole lot of actors — including some who went on to much bigger things. From a pre-teen Leighton Meester to Stephen Colbert with mommy issues, we put together a gallery of some of the best before-they-were-famous L&O clips.

From the 27th Precinct to the Upper East Side: a young Leighton Meester appeared on Law & Order in 1999.

Michael Emerson in Criminal Intent? So creepy but so hot. Michael really is our favorite.
