Academy President Takes On The Haters, Defends Oprah's Honorary Award

Posted: 05 Aug 2011 01:30 PM PDT

Better watch out, critics! The President of the United States of America the Academy has got Oprah's back!

To recap, two days ago, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences' Board of Governors announced that they will honor Oprah Winfrey with the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award for "her extensive charitable, philanthropic, and educational efforts."

Then yesterday, critics lashed out at the Academy for their decision to honor Oprah with the award.

Now, Academy Prez Tom Sherak has come to Ms. Winfrey's defense:

"Oprah has given and given and given. She's a member of the academy, she was nominated for an Academy Award and she has produced movies. This is not about personality. This is about a person who has come from the depths, risen to the heights and given back. That's a perfect example of why this award was created."

"We have a lot of people who are TV people who have made movies. It doesn't matter that they do other things...she is definitely one of us. What really counts is her contribution to humanity."

"[The award] exemplifies giving back to the community, the world, society in an extraordinary way."

The Prez definitely makes some valid points here! What do U have to say about that, haters???

High School Musical Star Being Sued Over Flop Movie

Posted: 05 Aug 2011 01:10 PM PDT

Honestly, we don't know what more could've been done to save it - other than sell it to the Disney Channel as an original movie!

Ya'll remember that movie Free Style that Corbin Bleu was in back in 2009? Yeah, of course you don't. No one saw it. No, seriously, it made a whopping $463 its opening weekend. That's like, 40 people!

Well, the studio behind the flick feels that Corbin didn't do enough to promote the movie, thus ensuring it would fail, so they are suing him for $12 million in damages.

Say what?! $12 million bucks?! Are you kidding?! There was no way it was ever going to break even five! Ya'll have to be joking!

Fight them on this, Corbin! There is only so much one man can do to save a sinking ship! It's not your job to MAKE people come see the movie! Psht!

Adele's Goin' Country For Next Album, Y'all!

Posted: 05 Aug 2011 12:50 PM PDT

Adele loved spending time in the States so much, she's going to focus her next album around one of America's staples -- country music.

When asked what her latest muse was, Adele attributed the South for her newest inspiration:

The melodies and to-the-point lyrics I have found in a lot of American styles of music is definitely something I'm going be pursuing heavily from now on. I want to spend some time in Texas and Tennessee, and learn about it.

Well, yee-haw!

We hope she loves it down there. Maybe after going country in Nashville, she can find her way back to the blues in Memphis.

Eh. The grunge resurgence is over. Get a hair cut. LOLz.

John Mayer was spotted in Los Angeles this week, sporting a return to a longer do.

Maybe he's trying to fly under the radar? Didn't really need the long hair for that though.

That's our subtle hint in asking you to make more music John. DO IT!

Hot Undead Man Walking! ASkars Flips The Bird To The Paparazzi!

Posted: 05 Aug 2011 12:10 PM PDT

But he is Alexander Skarsgard ... so he's sneaky about it!

Yesterday, the True Blood man candy was spotted leaving the Bowery Hotel in Soho New York by a paparazzi. At first, it would seem that Alex is none too pleased to see the pap and made his position clear with the use of his middle finger.

But wait - is he really flipping the guy off? Or is he merely using an inappropriate finger to adjust his glasses on his nose?

A mystery for the ages!

Check out the gallery (below) and U decide!
