Bombs Away? Another Suspected Al Qaeda Attack Barely Averted

SMH. This ish is insane. Nobody is safe from terrorism and these fu*kers will not stop trying to bring us down.

President Barack Obama declared Friday that authorities had uncovered a “credible terrorist threat” against the United States following the overseas discovery of U.S.-bound packages containing explosives aboard cargo jets. Obama said both had been addressed to Jewish organizations in the Chicago area.

The disclosures triggered a worldwide alert amid fears that al-Qaida was attempting to carry out fresh terror attacks.

The events “underscore the necessity of remaining vigilant against terrorism,” the president said. The packages both originated in Yemen, but Obama did not explicitly assign blame to al-Qaida, which is active in the Arab nation and long has made clear its goal of attacking the United States.

The events unfolded four days before national elections in which discussion of terrorism has played almost no role.

Obama stepped to the podium in the hours after officials disclosed that authorities in Dubai intercepted an explosive device bound for a Chicago-area Jewish institution. The second package was aboard a plane searched in England, and officials said it contained a printer toner cartridge with wires and powder.

That second package was aboard a plane in East Midlands, north of London.

Obama did not identify any institution that had been targeted.

Several other cargo planes at airports along the Eastern Seaboard of the United States also were searched, and officials said no explosives were found. An Emirates Airlines passenger jet carrying cargo from Yemen was escorted from the Canadian border to New York City by two military fighter jets, U.S. officials said. They said it was a precautionary action.

An FBI spokesman in Chicago, Ross Rice, said both suspicious packages had been sent from the same address in Yemen.

The president refrained from assigning blame to Yemen’s al-Qaida branch, but officials who spoke on condition of anonymity said they were increasingly certain that was the source. The same group was responsible for the attempted bombing of a U.S.-bound airliner last Christmas.

The atmosphere of fear that President Bush maintained throughout his term seems to have been alleviated somewhat since President Obama moved into the White House — but does that mean we’ve all become a little too relaxed about the terrorist threat that is still obviously out there?

Does it make you feel any safer when they “find” and disarm these devices or does it make you feel worse knowing “the terrorists” will continue to make these attacks?

According to The Associated Press, police said nurses examining a pregnant jail inmate in Cincinnati found a baby wasn’t the only thing she was carrying.

When Janet Jackson stepped into NYC’s Lanvin store for their very fashionable Halloween party outfitted with a mustache in menswear, it wasn’t her first time masking her womanly assets…

Earlier this week the singer revealed that when she first began filming “Good Times” her budding breasts were bound to make her appear more childlike:

"I was actually doing 'Good Times,' and on our first day of shooting they bound my chest because they thought my breasts were too big. I got the part when I was 10, we started shooting when I was 11—I was developing early. It made me feel that the way that I am, it's not good enough. That's why I decided to call [the book] 'True You.'"

That’s so crazy, as beautiful, talented and bangin’ as she is that Janet would ever feel not “good enough”.

Janet also shared her admiration for Lady Gaga in the same interview:

“I adore her. One of the things that I love about her, it seemed like, for a moment, melody had left music. And I feel like she understands that a great deal. I just enjoy watching her. She takes me back a lot of times to the Grace Jones days. Where it’s — I don’t mean this in a bad way at all — it’s over the top but it’s over the top fun. It’s different from everyone else that’s out there, so I enjoy watching her and listening to her music.”

Diddy D*ckRides Thanks Drake For Help On “Last Train To Paris”

“[Drake] gave me advice for records when I needed somebody else, a fresh ear and he went above and beyond,” Diddy said.

BET “106 & Park” host Rocsi Diaz is only about a 6.5 on an average day — so we’re not sure why she decided to take the plunge and wear this unflattering “Avatar” costume for the Halloween edition of the show earlier this week. Might have been a great idea for someone else, but drawing attention to your worst features by highlighting them is never a good idea even in a costume.
