Paris Hilton Does Community Service

Posted: 20 Nov 2010 01:16 PM PST

Paris Hilton, wearing 4-inch high heels, showed up for work with the Hollywood Beautification Team here in SoCal this weekend to do some community service in order to start paying back her debt to society for the crimes she has been convicted of. Naturally, the sight of Paris Hilton engaged in any sort of manual labor is comical but when she is forced to do so as punishment, the sight of her is downright ridiculous:

They were given strict instructions on what to wear and told ‘expect to get dirty’. But while Paris Hilton diligently donned the regulation T-shirt and suggested trousers for her community service, she just couldn’t do without her high heels. The heiress wore four-inch stiletto heels to complete her court-ordered work with the Hollywood Beautification Team. Obviously, the reality star also kept her shades on as she painted over graffiti with a roller. But her lack of experience at manual work was obvious – she splattered grey paint everywhere, including on herself. Paris ruined her clothes and probably her black patent heels, as she wobbled over the stony ground. The work was a departure for the party-loving socialite as she was also expected to arrive promptly at 7am. The guidelines also state that if workers are 15 minutes late, they will not be allowed to stay that day. She was also instructed in the guidelines that she couldn’t leave ‘to move your car, buy coffee, use the phone, etc.’ At one point Paris pulled a silly miserable face as she talked with a fellow worker. Perhaps she was being told she couldn’t go and check her make-up. Paris was sentenced to community service after she plead guilty to two misdemeanors- drug possession and obstructing an officer- but avoided jail time. Instead, she is on probation for a year, must complete a substance abuse program, pay a $2,000 fine, and complete 200 hours of community service.

Ugh. Paris Hilton can be so irritating … well, she’s usually irritating … but her sense of entitlement is REALLY irritating. She manages to avoid serving any jail time in lieu of doing service to the community and she manages to act like a brat. Meh. I find it very hard to believe she is learning any lesson here but, my friends, this is celebrity justice at work.

‘Hallows’ Be Thy Fame

Posted: 20 Nov 2010 12:44 PM PST

Yesterday evening, before I made my way to the Viper Room to see American Hi-Fi LIVE in concert, I attended an opening day showing of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1 at the ArcLight in Hollywood, CA. Without question, I loved every single second of the film and enjoyed it so thoroughly that I cannot wait to see it again:

JK Rowling‘s Harry Potter books are always so rich with detail and lush storytelling that the film versions, as good as they are, seem like watered down tales that pale in comparison to the original source material. Because the final Harry Potter book, The Deathly Hallows, has been turned into 2 films, that watered down feeling didn’t feel as heavy-handed as it does for previous films. True, not everything in the first half of Deathly Hallows is included in Part 1 but we do get much more of the story than we usually get from the film adaptations … and we have an entirely new film to look forward to as well. This final installment of the Harry Potter film franchise is very dark and very scary … even for adults. No lie, I jumped out of my seat a couple of times with actual fright. There’s a lot of sexiness going on as well … Daniel Radcliffe strips down to his underwear in parts of the film and the semi-naked kissing (fantasy) scene between Harry Potter and Hermoine Granger made me feel really … uncomfortable. Still, those elements are required of the story so they didn’t feel gratuitous … in fact, they added muchly to the tone of the film. I was very impressed with the animated scenes that were used for the retelling of The Tale of the Three Brothers within the film. All in all, the film impressed me greatly … I loved it entirely. I really, REALLY did not want the movie to end … and when it does, I gave an audible sigh of sadness. I fear I’ll be bawling my eyes out when Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2 is released next Summer. I damn near bawled my eyes out this time!

I’m not sure how this film will play for folks who are unfamiliar with the Harry Potter books and/or movies but the other 98.7% of the planet should enjoy this film very much.

American Hi-Fi Rock The Viper Room In LA

Posted: 20 Nov 2010 11:52 AM PST

Last night I was able to attend a live concert performance by American Hi-Fi who are among my fave bands of the early 00′s and who I have seen many times on tour in the Midwest back when I lived in Detroit, MI. American Hi-Fi released a new album over the Summer, Fight the Frequency, and last night’s concert at the Viper Room was their first show here in LA since that album’s release:

As you may know, Hi-Fi is fronted by Stacy Jones who was the drummer first for Letters to Cleo and then Veruca Salt (two of my all-time fave bands). There are few bands that make me as happy as American Hi-Fi does. Their brand of pop/punk/rock is loud, insanely catchy and impossible not to jump around to. After the jump, check out some of the photos that I snapped from the show last night and watch video of the band performing LIVE their biggest hit song, Flavor of the Weak

I kid you not, there were a LOT of American Hi-Fi fans in the hiz last night. Folks traveled from all around the country to attend last night’s show (I met some folks who came from Florida, others who came from Ohio) and every single person in front of the stage was singing along to every single song. The guy in front of me knew the words to everything, including the songs off the new album. There was a lot of love in the audience last night and the Hi-Fi guys gave a whole lotta love back. Here is video of American Hi-Fi performing their hit song Flavor of the Weak at the Viper Room last night:

OK … you can totally hear me singing along with the band in this video, which is only kinda embarrassing but dude, I was having a blast so … yeah. See, this is one of the reasons that I LOVE living in LA. I was so geeked to be at last night’s show … here’s hoping American Hi-Fi will be playing more concerts in 2011.

Incidentally, last night’s American Hi-Fi show was going to be my last concert of the 2010 … but I heard that Tony from Eve 6 was at the show last night, which inspired me to check out what’s been going on with Eve 6 lately and lead me to find out that Eve 6 will be playing a show here in LA on December 1 … so I’ll be there for sure. In any event, last night was so much fun … it was really great getting to see American Hi-Fi play live again.

Plans for tonight … Adriana and I are going to a screening of Tron: Legacy at the El Capitan Theater in Hollywood, CA. Unfortch, I won’t be able to write about the movie until December 13 … but I am very excited to see it!! Hope you are having a great weekend thus far!

Mariah Carey Films ‘Christmas In Rockefeller Center’ In NYC

Posted: 20 Nov 2010 11:15 AM PST

Mariah Carey, who is doing as much promo as she can for her new Xmas album Merry Christmas II You before she has to go into hiding to give birth to her first child, made an appearance at Rockefeller Center in NYC last night to film a performance for the upcoming NBC holiday special Christmas In Rockefeller Center which will air on November 30. In addition to live (well, taped) performances by Mimi, Sheryl Crow, Annie Lennox, KYLIE MINOGUE and more, the special will feature the lighting of the Xmas tree at Rockefeller Center. Here are photos from Mariah‘s performance last night and some press release deets about the NBC special which will air in a little over a week:

MARIAH CAREY, SHERYL CROW, JOSH GROBAN, JESSICA SIMPSON, SUSAN BOYLE, ANNIE LENNOX, KATHERINE JENKINS, CHARICE, KYLIE MINOGUE AND JACKIE EVANCHO (NBC’S “AMERICA’S GOT TALENT”) WILL JOIN THE CELEBRATION TO LIGHT UP THE WORLD’S MOST FAMOUS CHRISTMAS TREE FOR NBC’S 13TH ANNUAL “CHRISTMAS IN ROCKEFELLER CENTER” SPECIAL ON NOVEMBER 30 (8-9 P.M. ET/PT)

Natalie Morales (NBC’s “Today”) and Al Roker (NBC’s “Today”) To Co-Host the Live Holiday Special

New York – November 3, 2010 – NBC will celebrate the lighting of the world’s most famous Christmas tree once again with a live broadcast from Rockefeller Center in New York City on Tuesday, November 30 (8-9 p.m. ET/PT). The star-studded holiday special will feature performances by Susan Boyle, Mariah Carey, Charice, Sheryl Crow, Jackie Evancho, Josh Groban, Katherine Jenkins, Annie Lennox, Kylie Minogue, Jessica Simpson and The Radio City Rockettes with a mix of current hits and holiday classics.

The 78th annual holiday extravaganza will feature a tree that is 74 feet high, 40 feet in diameter and weighs a whopping 12 tons.

The tradition of the Rockefeller Christmas tree dates back to the Great Depression. First erected in 1933, the inaugural tree was decked with 700 lights and placed in front of the then eight-month-old RCA Building, now the GE Building. The Christmas tree gathering was enhanced in 1936 with the opening of the Rockefeller Plaza outdoor ice-skating pond. NBC-TV televised the tree lighting for the first time in 1951 on “The Kate Smith Show” and as part of the nationwide “Howdy Doody” television show from 1953-55.

I’m not normally a fan of these Xmas tree lighting specials but this year NBC managed to cull together a pretty impressive list of performers. Mariah Carey is a big draw, naturally, but the mere inclusion of the amazing Kylie Minogue means that I’ll be tuning in for sure. Much props go to Mariah for the clever way she decided to hide her baby bulk. While I would LOVE for her to put her baby bump on display, I can understand her need to be vain … especially when performing on national television. She looks fantastic, I can’t wait to see this performance when Christmas In Rockefeller Center airs on NBC on November 30.

Wesley Snipes Busted!

Posted: 20 Nov 2010 10:52 AM PST

Wesley Snipes, who got busted for not paying his federal taxes back in 2008, was ordered yesterday to finally report to prison to begin serving his 3 year (!!!) sentence. Here is the surprisingly smiley mug shot that Wesley posed for before he got thrown into the slammer late yesterday:

Wesley Snipes was ordered on Friday to start serving a three-year prison sentence for a felony tax conviction after a Florida judge rejected his bid for a new trial. “The Defendant Snipes had a fair trial … The time has come for the judgment to be enforced,” U.S. District Judge Terrell Hodges said in his ruling. He ordered the star of the “Blade” trilogy to report to prison as directed by the U.S. Marshal’s Service or Bureau of Prisons, but it was not immediately clear when or where Snipes would begin serving his time behind bars. Snipes had already lost his appeal of the prison sentence stemming from his conviction in 2008 in an Ocala, Florida, court on three misdemeanor tax charges for failing to file income tax returns for 1999 through 2001. In seeking a new trial, Snipes’ lawyer, Daniel Meachum, had argued that jurors in the original trial were biased and that the prosecution’s star witness had his own criminal problems. At his sentencing in April 2008, prosecutors said Snipes, a resident of Windermere, Florida, had earned more than $38 million since 1999 but had filed no tax returns nor paid any taxes.

Dang … 3 years is a long time … but if Wesley had started serving his sentence back when he was convicted, he’d be almost out of prison by now. Tax evasion is no joke here in the US. Don’t eff with the IRS, y’all. They don’t care how much money you have, they don’t care what your excuses are … you pay your taxes or they will throw your ass in PRISON for a long time. We may let drunk drivers get away with murder in this country, we even sometimes let murderers get away with murder in this country … but we do NOT let people get away with not paying their taxes. Believe that.

Lindsay Lohan Has Been Fired From ‘Inferno’

Posted: 20 Nov 2010 09:42 AM PST

Welp, it looks like Lindsay Lohan‘s dream of playing a hardcore porn star in her next feature film has been dashed … because she has just been “let go” from playing Linda Lovelace in Matthew Wilder‘s upcoming film Inferno. As you may know, L. Lo is currently rehabbing in a Sober Living House at the Betty Ford Center in Rancho Mirage, CA and, apparently, her ongoing rehab has forced producers to fire her from Inferno and more forward without her:

You snooze, you lose. You violate probation and have to take an extended stay in rehab…you lose. Despite previous assurances that the production was ready and waiting for Lindsay Lohan, Inferno director Matthew Wilder exclusively tells E! News that his Linda Lovelace biopic is moving on without the troubled star. “We are withdrawing our offer from Lindsay Lohan,” Wilder says. “We are currently in negotiations [with another actress] and working out the legalities of bringing her onboard” … “We have stuck by Lindsay very patiently for a long time with a lot of love and support,” Wilder says. “Ultimately, the impossibility of insuring her—and some other issues—have made it impossible for us to go forward.” Lohan made a brief stop at her West Hollywood condo last weekend, but is currently residing at sober living facility affiliated with the Betty Ford Center out in Rancho Mirage, Calif. She must remain in rehab until at least Jan. 3, per the terms of her probation. Her rep tells E! News, “Lindsay is dedicated to her recovery and together they decided to move forward without her.”

Um, hello … this is THE BEST NEWS EVER for Lindsay Lohan! I was never on board with her decision to play Linda Lovelace in Inferno, particularly because of the hardcore nudity and violence that is promised in the film. To be honest, the role just sounds exploitative … particularly where Lindsay is concerned. I think it is absolutely for the best for Lindsay to NOT play the role of a hardcore drug abuser as soon as she gets out of drug and alcohol rehab. Actually, I don’t think Lindsay should be filming any movies immediately after she gets out of rehab (i.e. she should spend as much time as possible staying away from the temptations of Hollywood) but she REALLY should not be stripping nude in character as a drug addict. Yeah, this is good news for Lindsay … and her fragile sobriety.

Tony Parker Files For Divorce From Eva Longoria

Posted: 20 Nov 2010 09:06 AM PST

On Wednesday Eva Longoria filed for divorce from her husband Tony Parker here in LA after 3 years of marriage. Yesterday, Tony Parker filed divorce papers of his own but in Texas rather than California. While Eva cited “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for divorce in her paperwork, Tony is claiming a “discord or conflict of personalities” in his divorce papers. Whatever the case may be, the couple are Double Dunzo, y’all!

Now it’s Tony Parker’s turn. After wife Eva Longoria filed divorce papers in Los Angeles, the NBA star did the same in a Texas court, reports E!. Parker’s divorce petition cites the standard legal cause of “discord or conflict of personalities,” according to TMZ. The dueling divorce filings come amid reports Parker, 28, who plays for the San Antonio Spurs, cheated on the 35-year-old Desperate Housewives star. Longoria alleges Parker exchanged hundreds of emails with Erin Barry, the wife of a former teammate.

I’m not entirely sure why Tony feels the need to file divorce papers of his own. I understand there is a prenuptial agreement in place and that Eva is going after spousal support. Clearly Tony has been counseled by his attorneys to file divorce papers of his own in Texas as a means for him to try and get the better end of the deal. You may recall that we heard from Tony yesterday when he publicly commented on his split from EvaTony claims that he knew the divorce was coming but, still, he let her file first and then he decided to file for divorce afterward. Something tells me that this divorce will not be as amicable as I previously thought … my guess is that he said / she said biz is just getting started.
