Watch: Kylie Minogue Performs At The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade

Posted: 25 Nov 2010 11:19 AM PST

A couple of weeks ago we learned the happy news that Aussie pop star Kylie Minogue would be performing at The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in NYC, NY and earlier today Kylie did just that. Riding atop a toy duck float, Kylie performed her hit song Get Outta My Way:

Today’s performance was the first time Kylie performed at The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade and was very likely her introduction to many Americans who had yet to bear witness to her musical majesty. Altho Kylie‘s performance was just a short snippet of her song, I think it was well executed and fun. In case you missed it or just want to watch it again, you can watch Kylie‘s performance of Get Outta My Way at The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade after the jump …

Those of you who know Kylie and her performance style know that she does NOT like to lip sync her performances but all of the performers at the Macy’s Parade have to lip sync for the television broadcast. Short, sweet and lovely. Kylie did a great job today, don’t you think?

David Beckham & The LA Galaxy Make Their Way To Australia

Posted: 25 Nov 2010 11:02 AM PST

David Beckham and the rest of the LA Galaxy soccer team have made their way to Sydney, Australia to play a friendly match against the Newcastle Jets this coming weekend. Before the soccer studs take to the field this weekend, they made a beeline to the beach so that they could soak up some rays. Here are a few photos of Becks and the boys in OZ along with some deets about their visit:

Football superstar David Beckham flew into Australia Thursday for an exhibition game with his team LA Galaxy, but minus his popstar wife Victoria who opted to stay at home. The former England captain said he was “honoured” to be in Australia for this weekend’s game against former A-League champions Newcastle Jets at their 26,000-capacity stadium north of Sydney. “We’re honoured to be here, this is something the players have talked about and are excited about,” said Beckham, 35. “We’re here to enjoy ourselves but also here to perform as well and hopefully win.” Beckham said Spice Girl-turned-fashion designer Victoria, who was widely reported to be accompanying her husband, was in the United States celebrating Thanksgiving with their three children, Brooklyn, Romeo and Cruz. “My wife and kids would obviously love to have been here but they’re celebrating Thanksgiving and Victoria’s just come back from a long trip working in Europe,” he said. “Unfortunately she wanted to come out but it wasn’t possible, but I’m sure she will at some point.”

Something tells me Becks isn’t too bummed to be spending this weekend in Australia, especially considering how hot is there these days. Becks took part in a press conference in Sydney upon his arrival (while many of his teammates hit the beach). After the jump, check out a few photos of Becks lookin’ all kinds of adorable at his Aussie press conference earlier today …

Le sigh. I hope the Aussies down under will take good care of Becks and the rest of our Galaxy hotties. Enjoy the boys while you can ;)

A ‘Love (And Other Drugs’) Story

Posted: 25 Nov 2010 10:50 AM PST

Last night I made my way out to the ArcLight in Hollywood, CA to see the new Jake Gyllenhaal and Anne Hathaway film Love and Other Drugs. I’ve been anxiously awaiting the release of this film for months now, mainly because of the sexy nature of the story … but, to be honest, I really wasn’t expecting very much from the film. I am happy to report that the film is not only sexy but it is actually a very good movie as well:

First, I’ll get the important stuff out of the way … yes, Jake and Anne are nekkid quite a bit in the film. Jake bares his bum a few times and shows off his hand-covered front as well … so if you’re lookin’ for nekkid Jake, this film is for you. For the first 10 minutes of the film, I was certain I was going to hate it … but that turned out not to be the case. I don’t want to give too much away but in the end, Love and Other Drugs turns out to be a really sweet, really heartfelt love story. Yes, there’s a lot of sex … but there’s also a lot of tender moments that truly make the film worth seeing. It takes a while for the chemistry between Jake‘s character and Anne‘s character to become believable … but they do get there. I honestly was expecting to not really enjoy the film beyond all the nekkid scenes but I ended up loving the poignant stuff more than nudity. Love and Other Drugs is a really good movie, deffo worth seeing because of it’s sweet story … but the nekkid bits on display are a nice bonus :)

Today is going to be a very lazy day for me … I am really excited to bum around the house. I’m going to try and meet up with Angi for a movie later tonight but, yeah, for the day I’ll be on the couch in my jammies. Happy Thanksgiving :D

Xmas Comes To Hollywood & Highland

Posted: 25 Nov 2010 10:10 AM PST

American Idol alum Kimberley Locke, sax man Dave Koz and The Bold and the Beautiful star (and sometime singer) Ron Moss were joined by other performers at the Kodak Theater at the Hollywood & Highland Center in Hollywood, CA last night to perform a special concert at an Xmas tree lighting ceremony … here are a few photos:

Thanksgiving isn’t even over yet for the rest of us but it’s already Xmas time at Hollywood & Highland. I really love that my homeboy Dave Koz was on hand to perform at last night’s event … and despite the fact that I’m not a fan of Ron Moss‘s music, I can’t help but love that Ridge Forrester from The Bold and the Beautiful was in the hiz performing last night. So, yeah, I guess it’s official … Xmas is here already. Ho Ho Ho and all that jazz.

Ashlee Simpson & Fam Do Some Pre-Thanksgiving Shopping

Posted: 25 Nov 2010 09:56 AM PST

Ashlee Simpson, her hubby Pete Wentz and their son Bronx Mowgli did a bit of pre-Thanksgiving shopping here in SoCal yesterday to pick up a few odds and ends for today’s Thanksgiving Day feast. It’s been a while since we’ve seen the Simpson-Wentz family out and about together so it’s nice to see them all together as a family unit:

Judging by the small number of bags and that big poinsettia plant, my guess is that they were shopping for a larger Thanksgiving dinner with the rest of the Simpson family … tho, I suppose it’s possible that Ashlee and Pete are planning a quieter and smaller Thanksgiving dinner for just their little family. Whatever the case may be, I surely hope they have a fun Thanksgiving together.

NYC Celebrates Thanksgiving 2010 With The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade

Posted: 25 Nov 2010 09:10 AM PST

Macy’s Department Store hosted its annual Thanksgiving Day Parade in NYC, NY today putting on a show for thousands of New Yorkers as well as millions of TV watchers around the world. Known for its famous balloons, The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade has been a staple of Thanksgiving celebration for decades. Here are a few photos of some of the balloons that flew high above the streets of NYC today and some deets about the parade itself:

A high-kicking Kung Fu Panda and a diary-toting Wimpy Kid joined the giant balloon lineup as the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade unfolded Thursday, drawing tens of thousands of spectators to the annual extravaganza on a chilly, overcast morning. As millions more watched the live broadcast on television, entertainers on tap included Kanye West, Gladys Knight, Keri Hilson, Jessica Simpson and Colombian rocker Juanes. The Broadway casts of “American Idiot” and “Elf” were scheduled to perform, along with marching bands from across the United States. Another new balloon character was Virginia O’Hanlon, the 8-year-old girl whose letter to the editor elicited the response, “Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus.” Returning balloons included Smurf, Pillsbury Doughboy and Spider-Man – the last with a new fan in Mayor Michael Bloomberg. He said in a CBS interview that he had traditionally favored Snoopy, but after the Marvel Entertainment character was involved in a recent event promoting city services for job-seekers, “Spidey is my new favorite.” Other celebrities expected at the parade include India Arie, Keri Hilson, Arlo Guthrie and Miranda Cosgrove. The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade started in 1924 when employees from the department store marched in costume from Harlem to Macy’s flagship store on 34th Street. The parade was suspended from 1942 to 1944 because rubber and helium were needed for World War II, making Thursday’s parade the 84th.

You simply cannot talk Thanksgiving here in America and not talk about The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. Cities all around the country do their own Thanksgiving Day Parades (including my beloved Detroit, MI … which my high school marching band used to march in on those COLD November mornings back my hey day) but none as grand as Macy’s parade in NYC. I understand today’s parade was a lot of fun to watch (it’s airing here on the West Coast right now) with a bunch of fun musical performances. Check back later, I’ll be posting one of the better musical performances from today’s Thanksgiving Day Parade from one of my fave artists ;)

Celebs Celebrate Thanksgiving 2010 By Feeding The Hungry

Posted: 25 Nov 2010 08:23 AM PST

Kirk Douglas and some of his celebrity friends made their way to Skid Row here in downtown Los Angeles yesterday to serve Thanksgiving meals to the thousands of homeless and needy people in the area. Kirk and his wife Anne have been leading the feed the hungry charge each holiday season and this were were joined by actors Kate Linder (The Young and the Restless), Blair Underwood (The Event), John Schneider (Nip/Tuck, Smallville, The Dukes of Hazzard), Brandon Molale as well as local government dignitaries Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, Police Chief Charlie Beck and many, many more. Here are a few photos and some deets from yesterday’s event:

Celebrities and political leaders volunteered on Wednesday in downtown L.A., where thousands of people turned out for the annual Thanksgiving meal at the Los Angeles Mission. Officials said they expected to serve 3,500 meals by the end of the day. “I think we’re all on this planet together as a community, and to whom much is given, much is expected,” said “Grey’s Anatomy” actress Sarah Drew. “I’ve been given a lot in my life, and I think it’s really important for me to give back.” Actor Kurt Douglas and his wife Anne have been volunteering at the event for years, saying it’s a way for them to give back to the community. The celebrity couple says they’ve seen an increase in the number of people on Skid Row … “We who are not homeless, we always get together on Thanksgiving with our families, but we don’t ever want to forget that those are families out there who don’t have homes, but they’re still families, and we want to see them happy and be together,” he said. With the economy in bad shape, the Los Angeles Mission is seeing a lot more families in need of help. “We continue to see more people than ever. We’re seeing a different face of homelessness, many who are maybe not on the streets, but living in someone’s basement, garage, maybe in their car,” said Herb Smith of the Los Angeles Mission. Meals were served until 3 p.m.

It is so easy to forget that there are countless people in need on a day like today when many of us are overwhelmed with family, friends and good eats. I, personally, am thankful today for the many folks who give so generously of their time and energy to help brighten up the lives of so many people in need all around the world … not just on Thanksgiving or Xmas but each and every day. Unfortunately, the people who need help far outnumber those who are willing to give back but as long as there are generous people in the world, there is hope that things can get better. No matter where you are in the world today, whether you celebrate Thanksgiving or not, please take some time to be thankful for all the blessings in your lives. My personal thanks goes out to the people pictured here at the LA Mission yesterday and all the unsung people around the world who are also giving back this holiday season.

Alanis Morissette Wishes You A Happy Thanksgiving

Posted: 25 Nov 2010 07:36 AM PST

Today is Thanksgiving Day here in the US, the day that we give thanks for all the blessings in our lives while celebrating with family, friends, etc. First time mother-to-be Alanis Morissette (who is due to give birth to her baby boy with hubby Mario Souleye Treadway any second now) posted a Thanksgiving message on her official website that I would like to share with all y’all … behold:

hi everyone

for those on this planet celebrating thanksgiving ….
wishing you the sweetest and most restful holiday time ….
happy native indian day
happy families-gathering-together day
and if you’re not gathering with nuclear or extended family …
happy day, period. :)

sending a big hug to you and yours.
with you with you,
oxox
alanis

I’m quite certain that Alanis has much to be thankful for today but, as you can see, her message isn’t even about her at all. Outside of the US, it’s just another day … so I would like to echo Alanis‘s sentiments and wish everyone a very Happy Day, today! It’s always the right time to give thanks for the wonderful blessings in life … whether those blessings come from family, friends, loved ones, pets, the Earth, the air, the water, the fire … take a bit of time today to give thanks. Have the best day ever! Happy Thanksgiving!!
