Rupert Grint: Kissing Emma Watson Was 'Meh'

Posted: 20 Nov 2010 10:29 AM PST

The world may think Emma Watson is a stone cold fox, but her costars have more than a little trouble seeing her that way. In Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows, the latest Potter installment, there are some hot and heavy makeout scenes with Emma and her costars. But hearing them tell it, the whole thing was a bit like making out with a family member.

Rupert Grint tells People:

“It was actually okay. It was just the anticipation. Neither of us were looking forward to it.”

Mnn. That sounds hott. He went on:

“It sounds crazy, Emma’s amazing. I’ve seen her grow up and known her since she was nine. It just doesn’t feel right.”

Meanwhile, Daniel Radcliffe was playing along with the storyline, telling interviewers that their makeout was hot. But then he got in trouble with Emma for saying she was a makeout animal.

When apppearing on the show Daybreak this week, Daniel was actually asked if Emma was a bit of an animal. According to Radcliffe:

“I said ‘Yes’, and then it was like I’d said it.”

That got him in a bit of trouble:

“Emma hit me on the arm as soon as we came off the red carpet (at the film premiere) and said ‘What have you been saying to people about me?’”

Emma was certainly not smitten with her onscreen makeout time. She tells TVGuide:

“It was like some weird social experiment.”

Interview: Of A Kind's Claire Mazur and Erica Cerulo

Posted: 20 Nov 2010 09:53 AM PST

We found a new thing that we love this week: a website called Of A Kind. At Crushable, we’re big fans of interesting, unique objects and that is exactly what Of A Kind specializes in. They are the first shopping site run fully through Tumblr, and they feature limited-edition exclusive one-offs from designers they love. We caught up with founders Erica Cerulo and Claire Mazur to find out how they got started on this and a little bit about their current obsessions.

How did you guys meet?
ERICA: We met as undergrads at University of Chicago. A mutual frenemy basically set us up on a friend date, and eventually we were on a student-run concert-planning board together. So, we've been working on projects together for, what, eight years? We know how to deal with each other stressed, which is pretty key.

How did you decide to start Of A Kind?
CLAIRE: I come from an arts management background, and I’ve long been obsessed with 20×200 (web purveyor of limited edition art prints). It’s a business model that has the potential to really disrupt the way the art world operates. So I was applying for a job there for the umpteenth time, and Erica, who comes from the magazine world and is my go-to editor, was proofing my cover letter for me. It was during that process that the idea for Of a Kind began to emerge: What if we did 20×200, but for emerging designers instead of artists, and weaved in editorial as a really major component? Once we got started, we were rapid-fire emailing back and forth all night—and followed that by a highly urgent coffee date halfway between our two offices the next day. We spent a long time just talking about what we wanted to do and really fleshing out the idea. It’s fascinating to go back and read those emails now—they’re a fairly accurate description of what we ended up executing on.

How are you going to differentiate yourselves?
ERICA: First off, we're bringing together retail and editorial in a fresh way. Actually, when we were conceptualizing the site, that was the toughest part—finding a way to seamlessly integrate the things you buy with the things you read. We didn't want a store with a blog in the corner or a media site with a shop in the corner, and so that required some creative thinking.

And, by launching on Tumblr, we're able to reach a really enthusiastic fashion community in a pointed way. Our products show up right in people's dashboards, and people reblog and like them. It's amazing for us to see the response like that—the viral marketing of the pieces we commission. Also: We're really putting ourselves and our personalities into this site. The products we sell are things we want, the stories we tell are ones we want to read, and the references we make are ones that mean something to us.

What are your favorite items so far?
CLAIRE: Oh, come on. As if we're going to pick favorites. Carrying the Mandy Coon bunny bag is more fun than 2am room service. Everyone wants to see it, touch it, photograph it. It elicits a lot of squealing. The Lizzie Fortunato necklace is a stunner. My favorite thing about it is its versatility—it’s clearly a high glamour piece, but I actually prefer it juxtaposed with a worn-in T-shirt and jeans. There’s something kind of ballsy about wearing it that way that I love. We’re releasing a really unique piece from Symmetry Goods next week that I’m dying to wear. I’ve been enamored of their line since we discovered them and was so thrilled that they wanted to make something for us. And this is just their first season!

Are you accumulating more stuff since you started this business?
ERICA: I would say that our wish lists have gotten longer! We're both running on pretty lean budgets since we quit full-time jobs in August. I'm currently obsessed with Jeffrey Campbell shoes and Aesa jewelry, and Claire can’t wait for the spring line of Meredith Wendell bags to be in stores. We’re both suckers for Kelly Bergin dresses and even own the same one in different colors (and we promise never to wear them at the same time.) Since we are fielding shipping for the time being, we
have accumulated lots of product that we'll eventually send to customers.

What’s your favorite/least favorite trend that you’ve been noticing lately?
ERICA: This is a consumption trend, not a style one, but I'm excited that people are looking for an artisanal value in things they buy. This has been happening in food for a while, and it's happening in fashion, too. There are so many people making cool new stuff by hand, reviving old techniques, sourcing interesting materials, and just doing genuinely passionate work, and I hope that the interest builds.

Are there any interesting things you’re noticing so far about people visiting your site?
CLAIRE: Oh, man. Chartbeat—it’s such an evil lover. We can't tear ourselves away. My favorite thing is to see how many people on the site have linked from a particular place. Yesterday we were huge in the Czech Republic, thanks to a fabulous write up in a Czech paper (we know this
because Erica's boyfriend speaks Czech); today we seemed to be getting a lot of love from the LiveJournal crowd.

Claire, I saw on the site that you’ve started listening mostly to misogynistic hip hop and gangster rap since starting Of A Kind. Any other new habits?
CLAIRE: Healthier eating. I started adding vegetables to my smoothies. I’ve been a big smoothie maker/drinker for a couple of years, but the recent addition of greens felt like I was really stepping up my game. I shared my recipe on our site (for which I received more than one “thank you”) and then our photographer, Jamie Beck, took an absolutely ridiculous picture of me pouring it, which she posted to her blog. So I’ve been spreading the green smoothie gospel a lot lately. We’ve also
started eating a ton of hummus and bean dips—any cheap, healthy food you can eat with one hand and requires no prep is very conducive to start-up life.

Parting Tweet: Rich Sommer Has Made The Internet Upset

Posted: 19 Nov 2010 02:38 PM PST

Come on, Rich Sommer, don’t you know better than to mess with our Mad Men-devoted minds? The actor who plays Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce’s TV guy made the above statement this afternoon, setting off rumors that the show might be headed for cancellation. And widespread Twitter panic ensued! Trying to get a handle on the situation, Rich took to his Tumblr to clarify:

“I am aware that all parties involved are currently negotiating the next season of Mad Men and beyond. Nothing official has been stated yet as far as a pickup, although it is a safe bet — very safe bet — that the show will return in its usual fashion.”

Okay, settle down everyone. Rich is already over it, so you should be too.

Star Shrinking: Celebrities Need To Practice Safe Marriage

Posted: 19 Nov 2010 02:16 PM PST

This week has seen a staggering number of engagements and divorces. Maybe it’s just because we have Prince William and Kate Middleton fever, but there’s also Jessica Simpson, Nick Lachey and their mates making it official. And on the other side of things, Eva Longoria and Avril Lavigne added their names to the list of celebrities ending their nuptials this week. Through it all, there is the pesky issue of the celebrity prenuptial agreement. Clearly, Prince William and Kate have long planned the international affair that is a royal engagement. But others are not so forward thinking.

And Dr. Gilda, our favorite celebrity relationship expert, has some strong opinions on the matter. Namely, that everyone needs a prenup:

“It's a business protective device. You protect yourself – it's like having safe sex. A prenup is planning for a safe marriage.”

We’ve already voiced our issues with Jessica Simpson’s hasty engagement to former NFl player Eric Johnson. Jessica reportedly bought her own engagement ring and is not planning to sign a prenup with fiance Eric Johnson. And Dr. Gilda is skeptical of that plan:

“That's a big mistake – Jessica Simpson's father is going to allow that to happen?”

Meanwhile, Avril Lavigne and former hubby Deryck Whibley had their belongings so well separated in their divorce plans this week it seemed like splitting was the plan all along.  Says Dr. Gilda:

“People who get married with the expectation that they can get divorced so easiily? Well, that will become a self-fulfilling prophecy. If they think they're going to live happily ever after, they have a much better chance of making the marriage work.”

But Dr. Gilda still thinks that people need to establish prenuptial agreements before they get married.

“You marry somebody not because you want to be with that person, but because you don't want to live without that person. As soon as someone realizes they can live without that person, they're out the door.”

That’s what she thinks happened with Eva Longoria and Tony Parker’s divorce announcement this week.

But the bigger issue, according to Dr. Gilda is that often young people use celebrity decisions for inspiration in their own lives. Which can be problematic. Especially when celebs make idiotic decisions.

“The bottom line is this: Know what you're getting into before you get into it. And practice safe marriage.”

Crush This: Replace Awkward Family Dinner Silences With Disney Movies

Posted: 19 Nov 2010 01:59 PM PST

Crush This is your weekly guide to what’s coming in music, movies and TV in the week to come. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows finally hit theaters today, and we’ve already made you a list of reasons to go see it. But if you can’t think of anything to do between now and Thanksgiving, don’t fret. Thanksgiving isn’t a holiday to stress about. It’s time to relax, watch TV, go to movies, and potentially drink…I mean eat too much.

To see in theaters:

  • On November 24th, Love and Other Drugs and Burlesque will open in theaters. So which one to go see? Well, I’m not telling you what to do, but the first is kind of a downer. Anne Hathaway is sick, but doesn’t want her illness to be a burden on new boyfriend Jake Gyllenhal, who fights for her. I give the plot a C, but Jake and Anne are naked throughout most of the movie and Jake has A+ abs. Then there’s Burlesque, in which a small town girl, Christina Aguilera, is working in a burlesque club owned by Cher and Stanley Tucci. When she shows her skills on stage, she steals the spotlight from other singers, such as Kristen Bell. That I would like to see. Though I still haven’t really forgiven Kristen for what she did in Forgetting Sarah Marshall.

Coming up on TV:

  • For those of you who have plans with awkward family members this upcoming week, we’ve devised a plan so you can “spend time with them” but not have to fill the air with empty conversation. Watch Disney movies! On Wednesday, ABC Family is showing Disney classics that are appropriate for the whole family. Thursday morning starting at 11:30 AM, the Disney marathon continues with The Little Rascals, Aladin, Beauty and the Beast, Mary Poppins, Snow White, and ended with Miracle on 34th Street.
  • Lifetime will be playing Love Actually, Notting Hill, The Break-Up and other romantic comedies, whereas IFC doesn’t really feel like acknowledging the holiday spirit. If you’re not into the whole holiday thing either, turn on IFC to watch Thank You For Smoking and Heathers. AMC is having a marathon of all of The Godfather movies, so hide the remote from the men in your family unless you want to be sucked into a night of cigars, bourbon and man-talk.
  • This Saturday night, Anne Hathaway will be doing more attention-whoring when she hosts Saturday Night Live with musical guest Florence + the Machine. Ugh.

For your iPod:

  • The new Sufjan Stevens CD, The Age of Adz is far from the likes of his old uber-acoustic folk music and is filled with a more electronic and synth oriented sound. I’m not saying I’m not proud of Sufjan for breaking the mold. His new stuff is innovative (for him) and no doubt great music; however, I sometimes miss the old stuff. When dissecting his new album and trying to find something I could recognize, I stumbled across a beautiful track that’s beautiful, and suits the oncoming season perfectly.
  • Now that Thanksgiving is less than a week away, it is officially an appropriate time to bust out the recently released Glee Christmas Album!!! Glee of course has a holiday episode coming up in the near future.

Style Crush: Mia Wasikowska

We finally sat down to watch The Kids Are All Right the other night — and wow, what a great movie! While Julianne Moore, Annette Bening and Mark Ruffalo were sensational, we found ourselves most enchanted by the quiet but amazingly self-possessed Mia Wasikowska, who plays the daughter (of everyone ) in the film. Mia, who also starred in Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland, is just 21-years-old but well on her way to stardom, mark our words. We looked up more info on the Australian actress and quickly realized that in addition to amazing self-possession and enormous talent, Mia also has a killer sense of style. See what we mean in our gallery of Mia pics.

  • This dress is extraordinary!
  • So very elegant.
  • Rocking a big bow.
  • We want to own this so very badly.
  • More mesh.
  • This hair is the cutest!
  • A crinkly white number.
  • A boyish bow.
  • Two thumbs up.

Get Your Own Crotchless 'Burlesque' Sequined Jumpsuit

One of our favorite things about Burlesque (so far) is the absurd, over the top costume design. The Christina Aquilera/Cher vehicle has more sparkles, sequins and Stanley Tucci that we know what to do with. And for those of you worried that you would have to cover yourself in glitter to replicate these looks, a website called SeenOn has something exciting for you. They are putting actual costumes from the movie on sale starting this Sunday at 9P. Even better, you can enter to win a private screening of the movie for you and 100 of your closest friends.

How do we convince SeenOn that this is something Crushable NEEDS?

According Seen On, costumes worn by Christina Aguilera, Kristen Bell and Julianne Hough will all be available for purchase. Including the looks pictured here, which all seem only just barely able to cover female private business.

The sale will also feature Burlesque-inspired items, and the first 30 shoppers will receive three bottles of the OPI Burlesque collection.

In case you are wondering, here are a few acceptable activities that you can partake in once you have purchased said gear:

  • Any New Year’s Eve party – where everyone is already drunk.
  • A Burlesque show, where you plan to perform.
  • A Dita Von Teese look a like costume party.
  • Somewhere where everyone thinks they’re in the movie Chicago.
  • In your bedroom or kitchen. Where we would likely just dance around in them all the time.
