Jennifer Lawrence Shows Off Her Underwear In ‘GQ’ Magazine

Posted: 14 Apr 2011 04:30 PM PDT

Jennifer Lawrence, who received an Academy Award-nomination for her work in Winter’s Bone, will be seen in the prequel film X-Men: First Class this Summer and just nabbed the lead role in The Hunger Games trilogy, is featured in the new issue of GQ magazine. For her spread, Jennifer is inexplicably wearing nothing but underwear. I guess because GQ is a men’s magazine, women who are featured in their pages must be as scantily-clad as possible. HMMM.

Thus far, I’ve been pretty impressed with Jennifer‘s work but I am very turned off by the fact that she is also featured in the new Jodie Foster film The Beaver, which also stars the racist homophobic a-hole Mel Gibson. For that fact alone, I will not see her in that film. I am very much looking forward to seeing her in X-Men: First Class this Summer and, of course, as Katniss Everdeen in the big screen adaptation of The Hunger Games. I guess I totally get why she has to be photographed in her underwear for publication in GQ magazine but something about how out-of-context the shoot is to the accompanying article feels kinda … skeezy. Jennifer Lawrence does look very lovely in these photos but … it’d be nice if GQ let her wear some clothes, for at least one photo.

Chris Hemsworth Promotes ‘Thor’ In Madrid, Spain

Posted: 14 Apr 2011 03:30 PM PDT

Thor hottie Chris Hemsworth, who is featured on the cover and in the pages of this weekend’s issue of USA Weekend along side Captain America star Chris Evans, made his way to Madrid, Spain today to appear at a photocall at Hotel Santo Mauro to promote his new film. Basically, it was an event where members of the media were invited to take pictures of Hemsworth standing around, lookin’ hot. Check out some of those photos below.

As I’ve said many, many times … I am really looking forward to seeing Chris Hemsworth in Thor. From what I’ve seen, it looks like he is the perfect man to bring the Norse God of Thunder to life on the big screen. To be honest, I never really took Thor too seriously as a superhero in the comic books … I think maybe it was his too long hair. From what I’ve seen, it looks like Marvel Comics got the look very right in this new movie. To be honest, I could just stare at Hemsworth all day … so yeah, Thor is high on my must see movie list.

Britney Spears Takes The Fam To The Grand Canyon

Posted: 14 Apr 2011 02:26 PM PDT

Britney Spears has been working hard behind the scenes lately to get ready for her upcoming Summer tour but did you know that our dear Britney managed to squeeze in a family visit to the Grand Canyon recently without our knowing it? ‘Tis true … while Britney was in Las Vegas, NV promoting the release of her new album a few weeks ago, she took the kiddies and loverman Jason Trawick for a quick trip to the Grand Canyon. This week, tho, it’s been bizznazz as usual … yesterday, she spent some time working at a recording studio here in LA. HMMM, I wonder what she’s got planned for us.

This cute photo of Britney and her boys was published in the new issue of People magazine … they look so cute don’t they? It’s amazing they managed to sneak off to the Grand Canyon without anyone knowing about it. You may recall that Britney took her sons to see The Lion King while they were all in Vegas … I guess it’s not all work for our dear Britney ;)

But, work she must … here is a photo of Britney making her way out of the recording studio yesterday:

You may recall that we learned earlier this week that Britney and Nicki Minaj **may** be working on a new music collaboration together. Do you think Britney was laying down the vocals for a possible new song with Nicki? Could be. But, with her tour coming soon, I’m sure Britney has a lot of recording work to do before she hits the road. Things may be quiet on the Britney front right now … but very soon, it’ll be Britney-palooza! Woot!!

ABC Cancels ‘All My Children’ & ‘One Life To Live’

Posted: 14 Apr 2011 01:30 PM PDT

Sad news soap opera fans … ABC has just announced the cancellation of 2 of their long running daytime drama series. Fan faves All My Children AND One Life to Live will be dunzo very soon. You may recall that CBS canceled their soap As the World Turns in 2009 … and now this. Once these shows are gone, there will only 4 soap operas left on the air — The Young and the Restless & The Bold and the Beautiful (on CBS), General Hospital (on ABC) and Days of our Lives (on NBC).

ABC is confirming what has been rumored for weeks: All My Children and One Life to Live will end their storied runs in September 2011 and January 2012, respectively. The twin cancellations will leave just four soaps on the air — Days of Our Lives on NBC, General Hospital on ABC, and The Young & The Restless and The Bold and the Beautiful on CBS. AMC and OLTL — which have been on the air a combined 83 years — will be replaced by a pair of generic-sounding talk/lifestyle shows, the food-themed The Chew and the makeover-centric The Revolution. Contain your excitement. "While we are excited about our new shows and the shift in our business, I can't help but recognize how bittersweet the change is," said ABC Daytime president Brian Frons. "We are taking this bold step to expand our business because viewers are looking for different types of programming these days. They are telling us there is room for informative, authentic and fun shows that are relatable, offer a wide variety of opinions and focus on 'real life' takeaways. "All My Children and One Life to Live are iconic pieces of television that have made an indelible mark on our culture's history," Frons continued. "Each of the shows has touched millions and millions of viewers and informed the social consciousness. It has been a privilege to work with the extraordinary teams who brought the residents of Pine Valley and Llanview to life each day, and we thank the cast, crew, producers and most especially the fans for their commitment to the shows through their history."

Dang … that is a bummer. It’s very sad that all of these soap operas are dying because they have been a longstanding institution here in the US and once they are all gone (and believe you me, eventually, they will ALL be gone) the face of daytime TV will be changed forever. The only soaps I ever really watched were The Young and the Restless and The Bold and the Beautiful (which have, consistently, been the most watched soaps on the air) but the storylines on both of those shows have gotten so insultingly bad that I can’t even stomach them anymore. If AMC and OLTL have similarly bad storylines, then maybe it’s for the best that the shows be canceled. I was impressed that One Life to Live featured a gay storyline pretty prominently last year … but the backlash that ABC received for doing so was very disappointing. I guess it’s just the sign of the times. Soap Operas are a dying breed. I wonder which show will be next.

The Dance

Posted: 14 Apr 2011 12:51 PM PDT

After spending a quiet night at home last night, David and I have BIG plans for tonight. He is a huge fan of the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater and he got us tickets to see the dance troupe LIVE on stage tonight. He has been planning and looking forward to this show for months … and the day is finally here! Tonight, we will be spending some time with the amazing dancers from Alvin Ailey.

I have never seen the dance troupe perform before but I am excited because David is SO excited. David doesn’t get very excited about many things so it’s really fun to see him really into something like this. I am looking forward to our date tonight, that’s for sure. Before the show, we’re planning to meet up with our dear friends Emma and Josh for dinner downtown so … it should be a fun night! It’s almost the weekend again … are y’all ready?

Listen: Beyoncé, ‘Girl (Who Runs The World)’ (20 Second Snippet)

Posted: 14 Apr 2011 11:30 AM PDT

Earlier this week we saw photos of Beyoncé on the set of her new music video HERE and HERE and today we not only get to see more photos from the video set but we get our FIRST LISTEN of Beyoncé‘s new song Girl (Who Runs the World). Only a short snippet of music has leaked its way online but it does give us a taste of what’s to come from B‘s new album (reportedly due out in June). Check out the new photos and HEAR a clip from her new song below.

Who runs the world? Beyoncé, apparently:

I need to hear more to make a full assessment of the song … but I like what I hear thus far. I hope it won’t be long until the song gets released in full … especially since the video is nearing completion. What do y’all think of Beyoncé‘s new club banger Girl (Who Runs the World)? Do you like?

First Look: Taylor Lautner’s New Film ‘Abduction’ Releases A First Movie Trailer

Posted: 14 Apr 2011 11:09 AM PDT

Back in January we got our first look at Twilight star Taylor Lautner in his first starring role in the new film Abduction. Today we get our first look at the young hunk in action in the just-released first movie trailer for the film. As you may recall, Lautner and his Abduction co-star Lily Collins were spotted on a dinner date together in Canada last week … and now we get to see them in action, in this new trailer.

It looks action-packed, don’t it? I love how one moment Lautner‘s character has no idea that anything is wrong with his family and the next, he not only finds himself in the midst of spies and guns but he’s also a martial arts expert capable of fending off those spies with guns. LOL!! That being said, Abduction does look a lot better than I thought it would … I might have to actually see it. What do y’all think? Does this movie look good? Do you think Taylor Lautner has got what it takes to lead an action film?

Mark Ruffalo Says His Hulk In ‘The Avengers’ Will Be Hairy

Posted: 14 Apr 2011 10:37 AM PDT

Last Summer we learned that actor Mark Ruffalo won the role of Bruce Banner/The Hulk in the upcoming Joss Whedon-directed film The Avengers. In a new interview with The Advocate magazine, Ruffalo reveals that his version of The Hulk will have body hair … primarily because he is such a hairy man and they are modeling the Hulk on his body. HMMM … sounds like a hot Hulk to me ;)

Perhaps you’ve noticed, as we have, that Marvel’s upcoming superheroes are being touted more for their smooth, globular pecs than for their skills in fighting crime? And yet, Mark Ruffalo has resisted the razor as he prepares for The Avengers: “No one’s asked me to shave my chest yet, thank God,” the famously hirsute actor told The Advocate. “They want this Hulk to be as close to me as possible. I’ll be playing him in motion-capture, so this Hulk will just be a bigger avatar version of me. As they’re modeling him, they’re using many of my own features, down to my scars and wrinkles. He will have body hair, but I don’t know to what extent.” This is what advances in technology have made possible.

Thank you JEBUS! For the most part, superheros in film tend to be too primped and polished. It never made sense to me that a superhuman character called The Hulk would be completely hairless. I am very pleased by the idea of a hairy Hulk … because it actually sounds believable. I think Mark Ruffalo will make a fantastic Hulk … chest hair and all. What do y’all think … do you like your Hulk hairy or smooth?

First Look: ‘Glee’s Prom Episode

Posted: 14 Apr 2011 10:01 AM PDT

It’s prom season here in the US and that means that TV’s beloved high school series Glee is getting ready to air their prom-themed episode. But, before they can do that they have to film the ep … which is what they are doing this week. New photos from the set of Glee have made their way to the Internets that show what the McKinley High School gymnasium looks like all dolled up for prom … check ‘em out below.

I believe the much-anticipated Born the Way episode of Glee (which we previewed last week) will air before the prom episode but I am very much looking forward to both eps. I have a feeling that the prom episode of Glee is going to be a very special one … and I can’t wait to see it. Doesn’t the gym look all purdy like this? Love it!!

First Look: ‘Fright Night’ Releases A First Movie Poster

Posted: 14 Apr 2011 09:28 AM PDT

Last week we got our first look at actors Colin Farrell and Anton Yelchin in the upcoming remake of the 80′s horror film Fright Night. Today we get our first look at lead actor David Tennant boldly featured in the UK poster artwork for the film. Tennant plays the magician Peter Vincent who fights the forces of evil and tries to help Charlie (Yechin‘s character) fend off the vampires. Check out the poster artwork below.

Senior Charlie Brewster (Anton Yelchin) finally has it all going on: he's running with the popular crowd and dating the most coveted girl in his high school. In fact, he's so cool he's even dissing his best friend. But trouble arrives when Jerry (Colin Farrell) moves in next door. He seems like a great guy at first, but there's something not quite right—but everyone, including Charlie's mom (Toni Collette), doesn't notice. After observing some very strange activity, Charlie comes to an unmistakable conclusion: Jerry is a vampire preying on the neighborhood. Unable to convince anyone, Charlie has to find a way to get rid of the monster himself in this Craig Gillespie-helmed revamp of the comedy-horror classic.

Many of you may know David Tennant from his work on the UK series Dr. Who … but I don’t think the good doctor ever looked this kickass. I’m not quite sure how I feel about the goatee but … I kinda love the idea of David Tennant in this role. While I’m still not crazy about the idea of this remake, I am intrigued by the casting. Colin Farrell as the vampire seems weird to me but I am LOVING the casting of both David Tennant and Anton Yelchin. This is a fun first poster. Fright Night will hit theaters on August 19.

Watch: ‘Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes’ Releases A First Trailer

Posted: 14 Apr 2011 08:38 AM PDT

In February we got our first look at the upcoming prequel film Rise of the Planet of the Apes and learned that the film was scheduled for a November release. In March, we learned that the film has been moved up to a late Summer release in August. Today we get our first look at the first trailer for the film and, I gotta say, I’m impressed y’all. Rise of the Planet of the Apes, based on this first trailer, looks pretty darn good. Check out the trailer below.

The CGI in this film looks really good … and I’m very surprised by how scary the film looks. Here is the first footage that was released yesterday that shows what the apes in the film will look like:

And here is the full-length trailer:

Doesn’t it look good? But … I do have one problem with this film … while I have no difficulty at all believing that these super apes can evolve to the point where they enslave all of mankind, I am having a bit of trouble believing James Franco as any kind of scientist. But, I suppose, this film is fiction so … we must suspend belief for a minute ;) I was initially a bit worried by the notion of a prequel to the 1968 film The Planet of the Apes … but after seeing this trailer, my worries have been put to rest. Now I’m really anxious to see the film in full. Rise of the Planet of the Apes hits theaters on August 5. What do y’all think of this first trailer, are you impressed?

Watch: Prince Talks & Performs 3 Songs On ‘Lopez Tonight’

Posted: 14 Apr 2011 08:04 AM PDT

Last week we learned that the legendary Prince would make an appearance on Lopez Tonight last night to formally announce a 21-night residency here in LA and today we get to watch LOTS of video from Prince‘s appearance on the show. Prince chatted with George Lopez for a good while before he launched into a 3 song performance set. Prince performed his classic song The Beautiful Ones before doing a new song titled Laydown. He closed out his set with his version of the James D Train Williams song You’re the One for Me (a song that Prince actually wrote). Watch all of this amazingness below.

Here is Lopez‘s interview with Prince:

Here is video of Prince performing The Beautiful Ones, a song from his iconic album Purple Rain:

Here is video of Prince performing a newish song titled Laydown. It is featured on the album 20Ten, which Prince released for FREE in Europe last Summer but has not yet released here in the US:

Here is video of Prince performing You’re the One for Me:

OMFG … these are AMAZING performances!!! I am SOOOOO bummed that I can’t see Prince perform the first of his 21 shows here in LA tonight. David and I have a previous engagement with the Alvin Ailey dance troupe tonight so … yeah. Because we will be in NY/CT all next week for Passover/Easter, I’ll have to wait until I get back to LA before I can see any of these Prince shows. Thankfully, these performances on Lopez Tonight are amazing enough to tide me over. If you are here in LA, you MUST MUST MUST see Prince at one of his shows … you must. And with most tickets priced at $25 each, there is no excuse NOT to check him out. He is just the most exciting live performer you will ever see, I promise. These are great clips! I can’t WAIIIIIIIT to see him live in concert again for myself :)

Kobe Bryant Fined $100k For Homophobic Remark

Posted: 14 Apr 2011 07:13 AM PDT

During Tuesday night’s LA Lakers basketball game, televised nationally on TBS, Kobe Bryant called the referee who slapped him with a technical foul a “fucking faggot”. As a result of Kobe‘s inexcusable behavior, many called for his punishment for the offense. In an effort to preempt any punishment he might receive, Kobe issued a public “apology” insisting that he did “NOT meant to offend anyone” … but what did he mean to do by calling the ref a “faggot”? Unimpressed by Kobe‘s apology, NBA Commissioner David Stern fined Bryant $100,000. for the remark making it clear to everyone in the NBA that behavior and language like this will not be tolerated. Despite his apology for the remark, Bryant is now appealing the fine. I guess he’s not so sorry after all.

Kobe Bryant has issued a statement about his homophobic outburst during last night’s Lakers game — essentially admitting to using the word “faggot” and explaining, "What I said last night should not be taken literally. My actions were out of frustration during the heat of the game, period. The words expressed do NOT reflect my feelings towards the gay and lesbian communities and were NOT meant to offend anyone.”

NBA Commissioner David Stern says, “Kobe Bryant's comment during last night's game was offensive and inexcusable. While I'm fully aware that basketball is an emotional game, such a distasteful term should never be tolerated. Accordingly, I have fined Kobe $100,000. Kobe and everyone associated with the NBA know that insensitive or derogatory comments are not acceptable and have no place in our game or society."

Kobe Bryant just wrapped up a live interview on ESPN radio — where he said he plans to appeal the $100k fine issued by the league for dropping a homophobic slur during last night’s game … but he never squarely apologized for calling the ref a “fucking faggot.” Kobe said the decision to appeal the fine is “standard protocol.” Kobe also said, “The concern that I have is for those that follow what I say … look to me as a role model .. for them not to take what was said as a message of hate or a license to degrade … or to embarrass or tease … because that’s something I don’t wanna see have happen.” Kobe stated he plans to talk to gay rights groups. Kobe said his message to people is, “It’s OK to be who you are.”

I, personally, understand that things can get heated in games like this, especially with the championship finals coming up … but the NBA Commissioner was absolutely right to bring the hammer down hard on Kobe Bryant. It is completely inexcusable for language like this to be used in any capacity, let alone on national television for anyone to see. I can’t say I’m at all impressed by Kobe‘s “apology” … saying that he didn’t mean to offend anyone doesn’t explain why he even used the word “faggot” in the first place. If he didn’t mean to offend, what did he mean to do? While it may be “standard protocol” to appeal a fine of this magnitude, if Bryant were really sorry he would just pay the fine and offer a genuine apology for his actions. It is my hope that the money Bryant is forced to pay out for this offensive infraction does get donated to a GLBT charity. I am so happy to see that Commissioner David Stern is taking this offense so seriously. This should make everyone in the NBA (and hopefully other professional sports as well) that this kind of homophobia will NOT be tolerated. Period.
