Prince Harry Is Now A British Military Captain

Posted: 17 Apr 2011 12:04 PM PDT

Congratulations are in order for Prince Harry this weekend as we learn the happy news that he has been promoted to the rank of captain in the British military. In addition to his new rank, Harry has also been cleared to be an Apache helicopter pilot as well. With one week to go before his older brother Prince William is married to his ladylove Kate Middleton, it appears that Harry is enjoying a bit of the congratulatory spotlight himself.

Prince Harry will have new insignia on his uniform when he escorts brother Prince William to his wedding later this month. For the best man now has a new title – Captain in the British Army. Harry, 26, received the honor Thursday, also qualifying as an Apache helicopter pilot the same day, the palace announced … With his success at training on the high-tech Apache attack aircraft (which included a stint in the French Alps) Captain Harry Wales, as he is will now be known in the military, is ready for the next stage of his training. That will prepare him to operate the aircraft and its weapons systems in-operational scenarios. One day, that could mean him heading back to the combat zones of Afghanistan, where he served in 2008. According to the palace, Prince Harry will be based at Wattisham Airfield in Suffolk and also spend some time training in the United States.

What an amazing accomplishment. I may not know much about the complexities of military ranking but this sounds like a pretty impressive honor to me. It seems clear to me that Prince Harry takes his military commitments very seriously so I’m sure he is very proud of this accomplishment. I can’t wait to see Captain Harry Wales as Prince William‘s best man at the royal wedding next weekend. Altho next weekend will be ALL about Wills, let’s send some love to Harry this weekend.

Feasting On ‘The Hunger Games’

Posted: 17 Apr 2011 11:48 AM PDT

In February I mentioned that I started reading The Hunger Games book trilogy by Suzanne Collins and, after some delay, I was finally able to plow thru book 2 and start book 3. Because our travel day from LA to NYC was very long (due to multiple delays), I was able to finish Catching Fire, the second book of the trilogy. Overall, I loved the book … and I love where the story is headed. It’s been a long time since I voraciously needed to read a book as entertaining as Catching Fire.

I’m hesitant to post any plot spoilers because I really want people who have never read the books to pick them up and fall in love with them like I did. I will say that I was very surprised by the central plot development of Catching Fire. I did not anticipate that Katniss would be forced to participate in the games again so soon. I really love the new characters that are introduced in book two and feel that they greatly add to the overall mythos of the trilogy. That being said, I have to confess that some of Katniss‘s actions in Catching Fire and the start of Mockingjay (book 3) are really starting to bother me. I get that Collins is trying to put as much emotion and feeling into her lead character … but sometimes it’s a bit too much. There were times in the book where I would think to myself, Can someone just slap that girl back to her senses?! How can she not see the bigger picture, the greater good? It’s one thing to make a character passionate, it’s another to infuse so much passion that you start to resent and hate the actions of that character. I don’t think it would do a disservice to the love that Katniss has for Peeta if she toned down the drama a bit. In light of the greater events going on around them (ie. the central storyline of Mockingjay), I think it’s a bit silly for some of the passion between Katniss and Peeta to be so dramatic. Then again, I have to remember that these books were written for a teen audience … and teens love over-the-top drama. That being said, I wasn’t turned off entirely by that overly dramatic passion and, still, I love the books.

After I finished Catching Fire, I immediately started reading Mockingjay … for which I was very thankful. Catching Fire ends on such a cliffhanger that I think I would’ve DIED if I had to wait a year for the final book to be released. I’m almost halfway finished with book 3 … and I’m dying to see how it all ends. I deffo plan to have the book finished by the end of the week. I just need to know how it all will end. So yeah … that was my day yesterday … flying and reading.

I’m happy to report that David and I arrived safe and sound here in NYC. We have a bizzy week here in the city and then we head to Connecticut to spend the Passover/Easter weekend at David’s parent’s. We’ve got some great friends to visit, some Broadway shows to see and hopefully some great NYC Spring weather to enjoy. Happy Sunday!!

Christina Aguilera & Jordan Bratman Are Officially Divorced

Posted: 17 Apr 2011 10:33 AM PDT

In mid-October it was reported that Christina Aguilera and husband Jordan Bratman decided to split after about 5 years of marriage … a few days later, Xtina formally filed for divorce. Today we learn that the couple’s divorce is officially a “done deal” … after a mandatory 6 month waiting period, Xtina and Jordy are now officially dunzo for good!

What a girl wants, a girl gets. And this girl wanted to be single again. Christina Aguilera’s divorce from hubby of nearly five years Jordan Bratman was finalized [Friday] morning, per court records, as the pesky six-month waiting period as required in California came to an end. But not necessarily a bitter one. In papers filed on Feb. 9, 2011, a Los Angeles Superior Court judge determined April 15 as the day the couple would finally, and formally, go their separate ways. Aguilera first filed for divorce last October, but has been split from Bratman even longer, as she listed their date of separation as Sept. 11. However, she’s not one to sit alone at home, and she’s been biding her return to single status with help from current beau Matt Rutler … Aguilera, at the time of her filing last fall, requested joint physical and legal custody of their 3-year-old son, Max, and the duo has since reportedly hashed out a deal to share custody of the tot. Helping things run even more smoothly is the fact that money was not among the points that required negotiations, as the duo had a prenup. Earlier this year, Bratman also filed his response to the petition, stating that their financial situation had been “resolved by signed agreement.”

And just like that … Xtina and Jordy are married no longer. I can’t even believe that it’s been 6 months since the couple announced their split. It doesn’t seem like it was that long ago, actually. And I don’t care if the divorce is “best for everyone” but I can’t help but be a little sad whenever any couple divorces. Except for obvious situations where abuse is involved, the end of a marriage is just a sad thing to me. When you look at all the happy wedding photos … and then see how that happiness just withers away and dies over a “mandatory wait period”, quietly finalized by judges decree on some random day … it’s just sad. BUT … I do with the best to both Xtina and Jordy. They seem very committed to the care and welfare of their son Max Liron … in that relationship, I hope they continue to live happily ever after.

Coachella Fans To Cee Lo, ‘F*ck You’

Posted: 17 Apr 2011 10:12 AM PDT

Day 1 of The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival was not a very good one for singer Cee Lo Green. After showing up very tardy for the start of his performance set, he was heckled by fans and then cut off completely by festival organizers … and then finally was booed off stage altogether. Fans in the audience, very upset with Cee Lo‘s unprofessional tardiness, were reportedly very happy to express their “fuck you”s as Cee Lo left the stage.

Showing up late to your own gig at Coachella only gets you so far. For Cee Lo, it got him nothing but grief. Restlessness and anger quickly spread through the swarm of fans that had convened to see the singer on the main stage Friday afternoon. With the heat pounding the crowd, it wasn't long before profanity-laced queries of when he'd show started to ring out. And then came the boos. "If we're coming to your show and you don't even show I'm like … fuck you!," a shirtless fan sang to the tune of Cee Lo’s breakout hit. After nearly half an hour, and plenty of walkouts later -– Green arrived. "Sorry guys, I just landed. Y'all still gonna party with me? I only have 20 minutes," Green said. "It ain't my fault. They should have … given me a better time slot." The statement got him nowhere, as people piled out and shot him single-fingered gestures. It was a drastically abbreviated set. He was able to tackle five songs, including hits "Crazy" and his signature tune, which took on a new meaning. "It's all my fault. Blame me," and then his sound was cut, leaving the audience -– and a confused band -– to attempt to finish what was thought to be an encore (a cover of Journey’s "Don't Stop Believin'"). Green exited the stage amid boos, clearly angry, as the band played on — though no one could hear a note.

Because Coachella runs on a tight schedule (to accommodate the large number of performers playing all weekend long), there really isn’t time for much error. While it’s entirely possible that a plane delay is what caused Cee Lo‘s tardiness, the fault really does lie with him. If you have a concert to perform, you make sure you get to the venue early enough not only to start on time but to rehearse and prepare for the show. In the end, you should never piss off a group of music fans who spend lots of money to see a 3-day music festival … in the desert.

‘Thor’ Premieres In Sydney, Australia

Posted: 17 Apr 2011 09:57 AM PDT

Actors Chris Hemsworth, Jaimie Alexander and Tom Hiddleston joined director Kenneth Branagh and others for the world premiere of their new Summer blockbuster film Thor down under in Sydney, Australia tonight (last night for us here on this side of the world). As you should be well aware, Thor is the big screen adaption of the long-running Marvel Comics series set to open here in the US early next month … but Oz was the first country to get the first look at the film. Check out some photos from the red carpet arrivals below.

As you may recall, we saw photos of Hemsworth in Europe last week doing a bit of promo work for the film … but the official world premiere was saved for his home country of Australia this weekend. Altho we are still weeks away from Thor‘s release here in the US, I am getting really excited for the film. I am really looking forward to seeing the Norse God of Thunder brought to life on the big screen. It shant be long now. Great photos, yeah?

Jennifer Aniston Tries Her Hand At Directing

Posted: 17 Apr 2011 08:57 AM PDT

Jennifer Aniston, who we are used to seeing star in really bad movies, is trying something new these days … she’s directing! Jen has been hard at work in SoCal recently directing a made-for-TV movie that is set to air on Lifetime TV later this year. Jen‘s movie will be a part of the Project Five, which is series of short films that are all based on the same theme. This set of short films will tell stories about breast cancer survival. Check out a couple photos of serious director Aniston on set in the Echo Park neighborhood of LA yesterday.

Jennifer Aniston, Alicia Keys, Demi Moore and Film Independent Spirit Award-winner Patty Jenkins (Monster) have been signed to direct the Lifetime Original Movie Project Five, an anthology of five short films exploring the impact of breast cancer on people's lives. Aniston, Marta Kauffman (Friends), Paula Wagner (The Last Samurai, Mission: Impossible), Kristin Hahn (The Departed, The Switch), Kevin Chinoy (Greg the Bunny, Warren the Ape) and Francesca Silvestri (Greg the Bunny, Warren the Ape) will executive produce the Sony Pictures Television production, Project Five, reuniting Aniston and Kauffman for the first time since Friends … Through its deeply interconnected story arc developed by Kauffman, Project Five will use humor and drama to focus on the effect that breast cancer and its diagnosis have on relationships and the way women perceive themselves, while searching for strength, comfort, medical breakthroughs and, ultimately, a cure … "Our hope with Project Five is to entertain, inform and inspire dialogue, research and prevention. Otherwise, our goals are small," said Aniston. "We want these films to move people and empower those affected by breast cancer to stand tall through this challenge, which impacts ALL of our lives, no matter who we are."

What a fantastic idea! As far as I know, this is Aniston‘s first time directing … and considering how serious the subject matter is, I hope she is successful with her film. I can’t lie … I am not a big fan of Jennifer Aniston‘s film work. She was fantastic as Rachel Green on Friends but her movie career leaves MUCH to be desired. Wouldn’t it be amazing if she were able to enjoy a successful career as a director? Even tho this is just a short film as part of a TV movie series, I think Project Five is a great introduction for Aniston to give directing a shot. Hollywood needs more female directors. I wish her nothing but luck and am very curious to see how her film turns out. Project Five is scheduled for an October release on Lifetime TV.

David Beckham & Sons Hit The Beach

Posted: 17 Apr 2011 08:20 AM PDT

David Beckham and his sons took advantage of the AMAZINGLY beautiful SoCal weather this weekend by taking a trip to Malibu, CA to soak up some sun as they frolicked and played together on the beach. Becks, stripped down to the waist, seemed to be having the best time watching his sons play in the water … and then decided to get in on the fun himself by kicking around the ol’ soccer ball himself. Check out the Beckham boys’s fun beachy photos below.

After 23 years playing professional football it is safe to say that David Beckham is in the latter stages of his career. But if he does decides to retire from the beautiful game he does have another passion he likes to indulge in and the footballer showed off his photographer skills during a day at the beach with his boys. David, 35, was seen capturing Brooklyn, Romeo and Cruz as they soaked up the sunshine on the beach in Malibu. Swapping his football for a camera the L.A. Galaxy star showed off her photography flare and got snap happy as the boys played with body boards in the surf. David was dressed in a pair of oversized purple and yellow shorts – the colours of his favourite basketball team the LA Lakers – with a matching baseball cap. But after indulging in an impromptu photo shoot with his boys Romeo, eight, and Cruz, six, it wasn't long before David was enjoying a kick about with his oldest boy Brooklyn, 12. And showing his son just how it is done David performed a number of keep ups as Brooklyn watched on. But it wasn't long before Romeo fancied a bit of the ball and went in to tackle his father in an attempt to steal the bright yellow ball. Meanwhile Cruz found himself covered up to his neck in sand, but appeared happy at being buried on the beach.

People … Becks deffo has that California style that simply INSISTS that he and the entire Beckham family continue living in LA. He really loves those long, baggy shorts … and I LOVE that he was rockin’ Lakers shorts as well. Doesn’t Becks look like the best dad ever … his sons are so lucky to have him to play with. Summer has arrived in SoCal … which means we have much more sunny fun like this to look forward to :D
