Jay-Z Launches Nationwide Scavenger Hunt To Get "Decoded" Posted: 21 Oct 2010 08:26 AM PDT With the help of Microsoft's decision engine Bing, Jay-Z is setting up a scavenger hunt for fans to find the missing pages of his new book, Decoded, out on November 16th. Deets, video and pics inside...
At his Miami release party last night, Jay-Z-with Beyonce in tow-- announced an adventurous book promotion event that will have Hov fans searching for pages of his book all over the country. Through Bing's website, users can answer questions based on Jay's lyrics to find pages of his book hidden all over New York, London, Las Vegas, and Los Angeles. Some of the pages will also be broadcast on billboards and other outdoor advertising mechanisms throughout those cities, too. "The campaign provides insight into Jay-Z's life in a unique way that and strikes a chord with Jay-Z fans and music enthusiasts alike...bringing a meaningful experience that magnifies their connection to him," says Bing GM Eric Hadley. As of Wednesday, 24 out of 24 pages had been found by over 500 Bing users. Those dedicated fans are also entered to win a trip to Las Vegas for New Year's Eve to see Jay and Coldplay in concert. Uh oh. So Jay-Z will be leaving cryptic messages all over the country revealing pages of a book called "Decoded?" Let the freemasons rumors begin again. But this is a great concept and sounds like a fun adventure for fans. Will you be joining in the search?

Michelle Williams, Corinne Bailey Rae & More Get FAB For MOBO Awards Posted: 21 Oct 2010 07:30 AM PDT Michelle Williams rocked a glitzy and pretty white and silver dress for last night's 2010 MOBO Awards in Liverpool. And we've got red carpet pics of a fabulous Corinne Bailey Rae, Alesha Dixon, and other UK YBF folks when you read on... Michelle signed autographs outside at the MOBO Awards last night while on the red carpet. London seemed to become Michelle's second home as she was there doing "Chicago" stage play for a few months this year.
Corinne has this effortlessly gorgeous factor about her that I love. And there's something to be said about a very simple black long dress with a deep v cowl and a train. Almost all body parts are covered, but the slightly sheer factor paired with the hair and makeup make it sexy. Love this. In the Media Room, both ladies pull a change up with their outfits:
Corrine rocked this forest green and chocolate silk satin look from Roksanda Ilincic Arisha Fall 2010 collection. Not absolutely loving the green studded boties, but I;m definitely feeling this drapey dress. And Michelle rocked this green and blue multicolored shiny dress. Hate the neckline. Love the color and fit. Singer Jay Sean, Cash Money's UK signee, was there. Singer Alesha Dixon wore this interesting black and pink detailed mini dress with a dramatic train and dramatic pointy cone shoulders. She's a gorgeous girl so it looks costumey instead of hideous--but it's riding a fine line. Those shoes are insane though. Loves. And boy band JLS also hit the carpet. Fab times.

MUSIC FAB: Rihanna Hires New Management...And It's Roc Nation Posted: 21 Oct 2010 05:23 AM PDT
Rihanna's making business moves. Her latest is switching up her management team before her LOUD album hits the shelves on November 16th. Deets inside.....
Proving she is serious about having another blockbuster album, Rihanna announced yesterday that she will now be managed by Jay-Z's Roc Nation company. Chess move. Why? Because Rihanna's ensuring that since the company is now investing in her, they have reason to keep her relevant and continue to land her endorsement deals even with the come-up of Roc Nation's Willow Smith. Now we're not saying Willow's going to just come in and steal all of Rih's spotlight and audience in one swoop or anytime soon. Just saying--a certain age group has a certain buying power (look at the young Disney and Nick kids). And with the industry getting broker and broker everyday, the artist with the buying power could become the most important to them. In an interview with the Associated Press, Rih said she's "so excited to take this next step in [her] career." She's also creating a company called Rihanna Entertainment that will merge all of her music, film, fragrance, fashion and book ventures. Talking about the first time he met Rihanna, Jay-Z say he signed her only hours after seeing her audition:
Rihanna however remembers the meeting a little bit differently saying she was super nervous:
So Jay-Z has always had a hand in Rihanna's career and he rhymed on her biggest hit "Umbrella." So it looks like the Roc fam is sticking together beyond Def Jam. Your thoughts? |
ALBUM REVIEW FROM THE SCENE: Mariah Carey Debuts "Merry Christmas II You" Posted: 20 Oct 2010 09:03 PM PDT TheYBF.com was on the scene at Wednesday night's intimate listening party for Mariah Carey's Merry Christmas II You album. It went down in the beautiful theater in the Lincoln Center in NYC. And we've got what you can expect from Mimi's second Christmas album we've been waiting over 15 years for.
Read on for the deets....
Set in the Rose Theater of the Lincoln Center, Mariah had the place decked out with gorgeous Christmas decor. It's usually difficult to slip into the Christmas spirit on a fall day in October, but the decorated white Christmas trees, gold and silver oversized metallic ornaments and gifts around the room, and endless champagne made it way easier. The current Def Jam head honcho L.A. Reid hosted the evening for the intimate group. And started off the evening reminding everyone that Mariah's first Merry Christmas album is still one of the best selling Christmas albums of all time. And her pure love Christmas inspired her to do it again. "Anyone who knows Mariah knows she absolutely LOVES Christmas," he said. "She spends so much money on Christmas--probably too much money--gifting everyone, decorating, everything. So this project was purely done out of her love for the Holiday." There were very personal and never-before-seen pics of Mariah and her friends and fam during Holidays of the past running on large screens as the album played. Halfway through the album, much of the first part upbeat and produced by Jermaine Dupri, L.A. brought out Mariah to gush about the project. Peep the video above.
Mrs. Carey was decked out in an interesting blue dress with rosette details on the hem, and blue shiny pumps. The fact that we still couldn't tell if this chick is pregnant even this close up is just odd. She's definitely thicker...but there was no pronounced baby bump. She brought out her hubby Nick Cannon to talk about having their place decorated with Christmas decor damn near the whole year so she could be in the right mind to record this. There are 4 new original Christmas songs on the album, and many of the usual classics like "Little Drummer Boy" and "First Noel." One of our fave tracks is a beautiful duet with her mom, Patricia, on "O Come All Ye Faithful". Her mother is an opera singer, so it was a rare sound of Mariah reminding us of her multi-octave abilities infused with her mom's operatic verses. Chillbumps. Simply fab. Another one of our faves is her remake of the Charlie Brown Christmas song. With the Charlie Brown pianos straight from the childhood movie playing at the beginning, it flipped into an actual song with Mariah singing the same song as the kids in the movie. She also included a live performance of "O Holy Night" she did at the West Presbyterian Church with their choir in South Central, LA. Gave us the same vibe as her live choir-backed performances of "Anytime You Need A Friend" and "I Want To Know What Love Is". For our fellow Merry Christmas album stans, Mimi included an updated version of "All I Want For Christmas," complete with a remixed intro. And wrapped the album with a fab version of "Auld Lang Syne". Overall, her voice sounded better than it's sounded in years. And it was the perfect mix of classics and originals. We weren't huge fans of the couple of overly upbeat tracks at the beginning, but 8 out of 10 aint bad. Grade: a semi-biased A- A few more pics from the event: Gayle King and AJ were also spotted there. Fun times. Photog: Mazur

MAMA TINA: My Daughter Isn't Pregnant! Posted: 20 Oct 2010 08:08 PM PDT While Beyonce was living it up and looking fabulous in Miami today with her hubby, her mom visited "The Ellen Show" to put all the pregnancy rumors to rest. What Mama Tina had to say when you read on....
The show doesn't air until tomorrow, but a clip of Tina Knowles on "The Ellen Show"--taped today--has surfaced online. Ellen asked Tina about the swirling rumors concerning her daughter Beyonce being pregnant. With tabloid media saying Bey is knocked up, Mama Tina says that aint the case. She confirmed that the rumors are indeed false: Tina stated, "I heard that but I'm here to clear the rumors up… The truth is that's it's not Beyoncè that's pregnant. It's me… I'm kidding y'all. I'm 56. No, no it's not true. Not right now."

*MORE PICS ADDED* Beyonce & Jay-Z Emerge In Miami, NO Pregnant Belly?! Posted: 20 Oct 2010 01:19 PM PDT Amidst suspect rumors that Beyonce Knowles is with child, the Carters have just been spotted in Miami. And there's no sign of a preggers belly under Beyonce's skin tight red mini dress.
*MORE PICS ADDED* The pics when you read on...
We purposely didn't post the "Beyonce is pregnant" rumor that circulated today to many online sources and even actual news sources--all of which credited Us Weekly tabloid--because we wanted to await a more credible source or confirmation from her camp. Especially since we figured out that Us Weekly used old quotes from Jay-Z and Bey's friends and fam from a year or more ago. But the people quoted were all actually addressing their thoughts on if and when the Carters wanted to start a family. We reached out to SONY Music Group earlier today, and we're told that Beyonce's publicist is forming a statement. Last time we got that response (just a few months ago when another "source" claimed she was several months pregnant), the answer was "No." The couple was caught by the paparazzi today in Miami chillin' with friends, having a meeting, and promoting Jay's new book Decoded. And Beyonce rocked a very fitted red dress that doesn't hide a thing:
Fab dress. The couple was spotted leaving the Delano hotel where Jay had his book release party.
And earlier in the day, they kicked it poolside:
Hot pics nonetheless. And we're calling B.S. on this rumor until a credible confirmation... Should Bey be on Preggers Watch? Pics: Splash News

Top 10 Foolywang Halloween Costumes! Posted: 20 Oct 2010 12:35 PM PDT
Halloween is fast approaching. And TheYBF.com has our top 10 most foolywang costumes on the market this year. And how to create the costumes will provide the most foolywang material for you and your friends. See the foolery when you go inside.... In no particular order: 1. The Barbie (seen above). *BIG SIGH* Of course there are going to be many Nicki Minaj clones this year. Pink, purple, blonde, tangerine - wigs/weave of every color. We will indeed have the foolery of the candy colored spandex and ill-fitted clothes doused into our eyes, complete with glitter. This costume is going to look tacky if not pulled off correctly. Which means--it has a 99% chance of providing foolywang material.
2. The Jersey Shore Expect to count 20-25 Snooki and The Situation impersonators. The Snooki will be simple to pull off as long as the "poof" is right. Some sites are selling the pouf, the tight dress seen above, and heels. You gotta find your own orange tanner. The Situation can be pulled off by any regular joe who buys the costume. But cool points to any man who GTLs and rocks his own ab/situation to complete the look.
3. The Old Spice Guy There is a costume that allow for folks to go around in public with the bath towel and no undies. Faux British accent, preppy sweater tied around the neck, bottle of Old Spice. Horse - optional. 4. The Tiger Woods Also - the bruised and battered Tiger Woods may be seen a lot. Costume needs a large Rolodex of groupies, bent up golf club, and golf-caddie to complete the mask that atually looks nothing like him. Funny as hell though. 5. The Antoine Dodson The "Hide Yo Kids" is sure to be a winner amongst the tomfoolery this year. MUST include head scarf over a dramatic hairdo like -half-done braids, long weave or afro-puffs. And don't forget the attitude. Mad this costume comes with the rolled up paper Anotine was using in the original vid.
6. The Lady Gaga Meat Dress Lady Gaga's Meat Dress from the 2010 VMAs is supposed to provide the foolery for folks big on gag costumes this year. Not very creative if worn straight out the box...er meat locker. Add dramatic heels and hair to set yourself apart. 7. The Biggest Show On Earth This foolishness is self-explanatory and it takes a certain type of dude to wear this and think its funny. It's a play off that now infamous "SNL" skit "D*ck in a box". Major cool points...or creeper points...to the guys who will certainly show off some of their own ~props~ in this outfit instead. 8. Lady Gaga Likely to be the most popular costume this year. The Lady Gaga can be worn right out of the box or created from your own closet. Just come up with a theme and build the most elaborate (yet wearable) costume that fits. The foolery that could become of this is endless.... 9. The Facebook This year you can also go as your own facebook page. Thanks to The Social Network, folks have gotten the idea to walk around holding this ish they likely spent months making. You could pull this off if you highlight some interesting info. Use it as an obnoxious way to make announcement to friends. Monica's facebook could say, "It's 10 carats b*tches."
10. The Bishop Eddie Long Damn near fell out when this costume came across my computer screen. So many things could be said about being the black pastor of a mega-church who drives a Bentley, flies in a private plane, and has a McMansion all written off his taxes in the name of the Lord. What's needed: one tight ass red shirt, a curly wig (lacefront optional), gold jewelry, spandex biker shorts (you could switch it up with neon colors), 2 bibles, token wife, 1 camera phone, and anuppity attitude.
Stay tuned for YBF's 1st Annual Halloween Costume Submission Contest! Details announced soon! |
Tyler Perry To Open Up To Oprah Winfrey About Being Molested Posted: 20 Oct 2010 10:35 AM PDT Tyler Perry will discuss his difficult childhood and sexual abuse today with his close personal friend Oprah Winfrey. Deets inside...
“He was beaten, scarred and nearly broken,” the Oprah Winfrey site says, giving a preview of today’s visit. “In a groundbreaking interview, Hollywood mogul Tyler Perry reveals the devastating details of his childhood sexual abuse.” In a preview, Tyler recalls the day he "died," when he was first molested. He tells Oprah that it happened more than once with men and a woman he was close to. He said he once blacked-out for three days afterward, telling Oprah, "It's so disgusting." Tyler first discussed his sexual abuse in 2009, when he posted a letter on his website. He was experiencing a flood of memories following a screening of the Oscar-nominated Precious, which he co-produced, including a story of remembering a man in his church who molested him. He will also be promoting his new movie, the adaptation of For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow is Enuf, that comes out in November. |
EVENT FAB: "Running Russell Simmons" Launch Party+Kim Porter's LIVE Event In L.A. Posted: 20 Oct 2010 09:59 AM PDT Russell Simmons had his "Running Russell Simmons" tv show launch party in NYC at Lavo last night. His model and celeb friends came out to help him celebrate. We've got the green carpet pics, plus pics of Kim Porter and friends hosting a LIVE R&B event in L.A. last night when you read on... "Running Russell Simmons" will be an Oxygen channel reality show focusing on the important women in Russell's life who help make him successful. His women--Aly Kinloch, Sagen Albert, Simone Reyes, Russell Simmons, Christina Paljusaj, Piper McCoy and Tricia Clarke Stone--all kicked it on the green carpet at last night's party. Not sure how I'm feeling about this show just yet, but we'll see.
Oh. Yet another model chick on his arm...and tongue? She's the 2009 Miss Universe (from Venezuela) Stefania Fernandez, and the two got cuddly on the green carpet. Hmmm. Russell's nephew Russey and brother and sis-in-law Justine and Rev. Run all came out to support.
Nick Cannon hit the carpet. And talked to media about not havign a preference on boy or girl for his and MiMi's baby. Even though he still didn't flat out confirm the pregnancy. Russ' good friend Gayle King came out to party. Cute clutch. Stefanie kicked it with model Selita Ebanks. And Russell kicked it on the carpet with his model friend Veronica Webb. Lovin' that dress. Michael K. Williams kicked it as well with Tracy Morgan. Rev Run hit the DJ booth with DJ Cassidy.
And even Pep stopped through. These outfits of hers.... Across the country in L.A. last night: Kim Porter started her new weekly event series at hotspot Voyeur. It's where singers make live appearances and sing along with a house band. This week's installment was Kelly Rowland, Lala, Laurie Ann Gibson, Tichina Arnold, and others who came out to support: Her son Quincy kicked it with the video chicks. While Tichina and Laurie Ann hit the stage. Fun times. Photog: Nunez |
