New Study Shows Teen Suicide Rate Lower In Gay-Friendly Areas

Posted: 18 Apr 2011 11:50 AM PDT

Suicide is a horrible, horrible tragedy. So any news about its rate being lower is always welcomed.

In an interesting new study, teen suicide rate is significantly lower in areas that support equality and are gay-friendly, with higher proportions of same-sex couples and schools with gay-supportive policies!

Here are some statistics:

The study of 32,000 Oregon high school students, published Monday in the journal Pediatrics, found that lesbian, gay, and bisexual teens are five times more likely to commit suicide than their straight peers.

Even straight teens had higher rates of suicide attempts in more socially conservative areas.

Hatzenbuehler used social data on high school juniors from 34 counties in Oregon from 2006 to 2008. He then created a social score for each county, based on prevalence of gay and lesbian couples; the proportion of schools with GSAs and anti-bullying policies; and the percentage of registered Democrats.

LGB teens who lived in counties with lower social environment scores had a 22% higher rate of suicide attempts than those living in areas with higher scores.

Sometimes depression and suicidal feelings can't be avoided no matter the location, but this news is extremely positive. It just goes to show that equality and fellow human acceptance and understanding is a very powerful thing!

Everyone should be making everyone feel comfortable and safe, regardless if depression is involved, but especially if it is!

Equality and understanding for all!

Tamar Braxton Brings The LOLs…Dot Com

Who knew the phrase "dot org" could be funny???

Check out the mash-up video (above) of Toni Braxton's sister Tamar using "dot com" and sometimes "dot org" at the end of sentences.

Very silly, but admittedly it made us laugh.edu.

What do U think of Tamar's usage of dot com? Do U think it's amusing.com? How about amusing.gov?? Perhaps amusing.net???

Simon Cowell OFFICIALLY Says Goodbye To U.K. X Factor

Simon Cowell leaving U.K. X Factor

While there was speculation whether or not Simon Cowell would split his time between judging both the U.K. and American version of X Factor this fall, he's announced he'll only be appearing on the U.S. version!

Talent in the United Kingdom can breath a little easier knowing their performances won't get completely ripped to shreds, however, singers in the states will still have to step their game up!

With only one season under its belt, Simon isn't just jumping ship either.

Simon will still have "an enormous presence backstage" on the U.K. hit and is also "talking about ways in which he can have an on-screen presence later in the series".

We think America has definitely been missing his amusingly snarky critiquing ability and think American television audiences will be happy to see him back at the judges table.

So far, Cheryl Cole is the only other judge announced hinted to be joining Simon on the U.S. X Factor.

Are U excited for Simon to return to American television and do U think U.K. audiences will still tune in overseas without his presence?

The Goddess Has Left The Building!

Let's see if it sticks this time.

Bree Olsen, aka Goddess #1, has decided to leave Charlie Sheen and his truth tour torpedoing the country and return home. While a reason has yet to be revealed, this isn't the first time Bree has taken off from Team Sheen. Back in March, she took a brief hiatus from the group before returning happily to Charlie's side at the start of this tour.

What gives, Bree? Is being a Goddess not all it's made out to be? Are you tired of Tiger Blood and #winning? Are you looking for more in life than just being someone's hot piece? Have you developed a moral compass and a fervent wish to go back to school, get a degree in psychology and use this experience to help others who are mentally unstable misguided?

Or are you just hoping this little display of rebellion will get you some extra attention from the MaSheen himself? Yeah, we're going to go with that.

Glenn Beck Leaving NY, Developing New "Research Department"

Posted: 18 Apr 2011 10:20 AM PDT

glenn beck leaving ny and starting research department

We're not sure exactly how we feel about this…

Earlier this month, we learned that the ever-polarizing Glenn Beck would be phasing out his show on Fox and stepping down as host.

Now, Glenn Beck has announced that he'll be leaving New York, moving out of his Connecticut mansion, and developing a new "research department" with retired CIA and military.

Here's what he had to say about it:

"What you are about to see in a few months is a new way to communicate with each other. [I'm going to] build a way to deliver news directly to the youth of America."

"I will be leaving New York City. As we build a new media I'm not building it in New York."

We are very skeptical about this, as we're sure is the case with plenty of you out there.

…Maybe we were better off when he was preaching to the world from Fox. Guess we'll find out soon…

What do U think about Glenn Beck's cryptic announcement?
