MUSIC NEWS: Ne-Yo Afraid to Record MJ Songs & Pissy About Music Leaks + The Floacist Feat. Musiq Soulchild "Forever" Vid

Posted: 02 Oct 2010 07:16 AM PDT

Ne-Yo

R&B songwriter and musician Ne-Yo is skeptical about recording songs that he had originally written for the late Michael Jackson because he does not want fans to think that he is trying to cash in on his death. He also ranted via twitter about the "hackers" that are leaking his new music. The deets when you read on...

<!--break-->

Back in 2008, MJ (himself) called Ne-Yo about working together on his upcoming album. At the time, Ne-Yo believed it was a prank caller and just hung up.

“I actually hung up on him because I thought someone was playing,” he said. “I was like, ‘Who’s this?’ and the reply came, ‘This is Michael Jackson.’ Click.

“Then his representative called back. ‘This is Peter Lopez. I have Michael Jackson on the phone.’ And I was like, ‘Oh my God. Are you serious?’ And then I apologized for the next ten minutes. Any comedian who has ever made fun of Michael Jackson was right on. Sad but true. He does have a very high, not very manly voice."

Funny ish..

But now that the King of Pop is resting in peace, Ne-Yo isn't sure what to do with the songs.

“Michael told me the songs had to be magical. ‘Magical’ was a word that kept coming up,” he told WENN. “He chose about ten of my songs for his new album. But I don’t know what to do with them now.

“I’m afraid that if I make a tribute record people will think I’m cashing in on my idol.”

Do you think that a tribute album should be released featuring the ten songs picked by Jackson?

Speaking of new music, Ne-Yo also took to twitter to address his recent music leaks.

Tell 'em why you mad Shaffer!

Remember Floetry? Since Marsha Ambrosius (The Songstress) has gone solo, Natalie Stewart (The Floacist) has dusted off her vocals and debuted a new song featuring Musiq Souldchild called "Forever." She's even donning a baldie now. Check out the vid.

Nice. Glad she's back.

RiRi is making her rounds overseas promoting her new album “Loud.” She was spotted leaving the BBC Radio 1 studios in an interesting and colorful fit. She seems to be rockin' “loud” colors to match her “loud” hair nowadays:

And Rih changed clothes after making a quick stop by her hotel room:

Although she has the awful red hair, can't deny her body body is sick.

And if you're wondering what she chatted about with the BBC Radio folks, here's the audio. During the interview, she let her fans know her new Loud album is uniquely her:

"[Loud is] just the perfect Rihanna album. Every song is tailored to me. I wanted songs on there that were all Rihanna songs, that nobody else could do. I didn't want the generic pop record that Ke$ha or Lady Gaga or Katy Perry could do."

Meanwhile, Janet and her man Wissam Al Mana were spotted in Paris after having a romantic lunch at Avenue Restaurant.

After lunch, they decided to do a little shopping at the Balmain boutique in Avenue Montaigne:

Love does make one glow doesn't it?  Loving her laid back yet motorcycle chic look.

Jordin Sparks Launching New Fragrance+ Justin Timberlake and Jimmy Fallon Go Hip Hop+New Vids From Eminem & Shontelle

Posted: 01 Oct 2010 12:37 PM PDT

Jordin Sparks wants to have every girl smelling as good as she does, while Justin Timberlake and Jimmy Fallon are Hip Hop's newest rap duo. Find out the deets when you read on...

<!--break-->

YBF chic Jordin Sparks is releasing a fragrance next week called “Because of You.” Her fragrance is a fruity floral concoction of clementine, white imperial currant and orange blossom; a heart of nectarine, sharry baby orchid and coral charm peony, and a drydown of sheer musks, vanilla bean, Baltic amber and blond woods.

Jordin wants every fashionista to smell nice at an affordable price, so a 2.5-oz of “Because of You” will be introduced at $9.50 and will go up to $14.95 on November 1st.

Sweet.

Justin Timberlake hit up Jimmy Fallon’s late night show the other night and the two performed a medley of rap classics with Grammy-winning hip-hop group/Jimmy's house band The Roots.

The two started the skit with Sugar Hill Gang’s “Rapper’s Delight,” and then performed a number of hits from the Beastie Boys, Missy Elliot, Tupac, the Notorious B.I.G, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Soulja Boy, Rihanna & T.I.’s “Live Ya Life,” Jamie Foxx and Kanye West’s “Golddigger,” and finished with Jay-Z and Alicia Keys’ “Empire State of Mind.”

Funny.  Fallon commented on how his wife called him crazy for staying up until two in the morning the night before practicing Soulja Boy’s dance. Jimmy said Justin was a natural, “(He) knew all of his parts, all his rhythm was amazing, so much better than mine. Mine was so bad, my gosh, (I thought), 'I'm going to screw this up,'”

This skit was HILARIOUS and they did justice to every song performed.  Maybe Jimmy should consider a career change and hop on a Justin Timberlake track.

Speaking of hip-hop, check out Eminem's new video featuring Lil Wayne "No Love":

And R&B singer Shontelle new video "Perfect Nightmare" produced by Rodney "Darkchild" Jerkins and Andrew Listermann:

POLITICAL FAB: Obama's Chief Of Staff Resigns To Run For Mayor Of Chicago

Posted: 01 Oct 2010 11:32 AM PDT

President Obama's Chief-Of-Staff Rahm Emanuel resigned from his position today.  We have video of his resignation speech inside....

<!--break-->

President Obama praised his outgoing chief of staff Rahm Emanuel today, calling him "an incomparable leader" who will be missed by colleagues on this "bittersweet day here at the White House."

"It's fair to say that we could not have accomplished what we've accomplished without Rahm's leadership," Obama said at an East Room ceremony packed with Cabinet and staff members.

Rahm is leaving to run for mayor of Chicago, but did not mention his campaign in his remarks. He instead praised Obama for confronting "some of the toughest challenges of our time."

"You had the guts to make the tough calls that stopped the free fall and saved our country from a second Great Depression," said Rahm. "You've taken on some of the most powerful interests in this town to stand up for the American people. "

Obama and Emanuel made many jokes about the now-former chief of staff's hard-charging style and colorfully profane language.

"I'm sure you've learned some words that you've never heard before, and in any, and an assortment of combinations of words," Rahm said.

Obama re-told a joke about how a childhood accident took off half of Rahm's middle finger -- "so it rendered him mute for a while."

At the morning White House staff meeting, economic adviser Austan Goolsbee gave Emanuel a gag gift reflecting his reputation as the administration enforcer: A dead Asian carp.

Fans of the film The Godfather know, the mailing of a dead fish is an announcement that a rival has been bumped off (and is now "sleeping with the fishes").

Melyssa Ford’s Statement Regarding ESSENCE Magazine Controversy

Posted: 01 Oct 2010 10:52 AM PDT

Seems Melyssa Ford's comments about ESSENCE Magazine set off a firestorm of controversy.  Now Melyssa has released an official statement regarding the matter and we have it for you inside...

<!--break-->

Here's Melyssa Ford's 'official statement' regarding ESSENCE Magazine:

Let me begin by saying that like millions of other black women of my generation, I grew up on ESSENCE magazine. Throughout my life, it has served as a platform to celebrate women of color, committed to showing our beauty by our own standards.  I know my candid criticism of the publication by my over use of profanity may have diluted my message, but in all honesty, I believed that I was speaking off the record and having "coffee table talk" with an old friend, who happened to be my former assistant, hence my uncensored frankness on the topic at hand.

However, I stand by my comments about black publications such as ESSENCE needing to be more careful about the messages they are sending.  Suggesting that black women are responsible for keeping their men faithful is antiquated.  The greater issue is about the pressure that we as African American women feel to perform above the level of expectation to keep a man happy and at home, as if a spousal union isn't based on any kind of reciprocal action. Is there as much of a focus towards black men on how to keep us happy? No, but numerous studies and features are written about 'Angry Black Women Syndrome' and the finger is clearly pointed in our direction as if to say we are the direct or indirect cause of why black men stray.   This isn’t the sort of story I remember reading in the Essence of old - the very pages that made me and so many other women proud to be brown.

There's a reason black publications like ESSENCE Magazine have stood strong for decades. I simply wish to be able to one day hear my own children speak with the same fondness of black publications as I did growing up.

Well, there you have it. What do you think about this response?
