LeAnn Rimes: “I will never say I do not ‘regret’ my affair” Posted: 04 Nov 2010 08:48 AM PDT Yesterday, we had yet another preview of LeAnn Rimes and Eddie Cibrian's ABC interview. It aired last night, but I can't say that I watched it. From the coverage of it this morning, I think we already covered all of the relevant quotes anyway, specifically LeAnn's discussion of her affair with Eddie: "I've always sais I don't live my life with regret. I can't… It happens every day to so many people. And I if I take away my album sales, my words, and you have just another couple. You had two couples whose marriages didn't work who really stumbled upon each other and fell in love. I can't change [critics'] minds. Nothing I'm going to say is going to change it. I do know that and I have accepted that." However, before the interview even aired, LeAnn got on her semantic high horse and tweeted this:
[From LeAnn's Twitter] Eh. I mean, I get what she's saying, and I understand the semantic difference she's trying to draw, but I still think she's incredibly smug about the whole thing. And since I know this is going to set off a huge debate, let me just give my current opinion on the situation, which, surprisingly enough, hasn't changed over the past year or so - I think LeAnn and Eddie were horrible for cheating on their respective spouses, but sh-t happens and it would have been perfectly possible for LeAnn and Eddie to both completely recover with some smart PR and some sense of mystery. My problem with LeAnn at this point isn't that she wrecked her own marriage and helped wreck Eddie's - my problem is everything that came after. My problem is that LeAnn thinks she's "the victim" while simultaneously being an over-sharing, smug, nasty piece of work. It's the dumb PR that bothers me most of all, because it wouldn't have been that difficult for her to just TAKE IT DOWN A NOTCH. She actually puts a lot of effort into being so hated. Here are some clips from the interview: |
David Beckham says he “hopes” to become an American citizen Posted: 04 Nov 2010 08:03 AM PDT David Beckham gave an interview to the Los Angeles Times a few days ago, and the LAT totally buried the lead, and now the British tabloids are freaking the f-ck out. In an extensive piece covering the journey of the LA Galaxy in general, and Beckham's place on the team specifically, the reporter asks Beckham if he really enjoys being in America. Beckham says he'd "like to make California his family’s home even when his playing days are over" and "Our boys go to school here. They’re happy here. As long as they continue to be happy here, my wife’s happy here, then we plan on staying.” Then the reported asks if he'd ever consider becoming an American citizen, since he enjoys being in America so much, and Beckham says: “I hope so, one day. It would be nice. I’m English born and bred. And that’s the way I’ll always be. I’m an Englishman, you know.” So he "hopes" to become an American citizen, but he will always identify himself as an Englishman. Question to the Americans: Would you mind David Beckham as an American citizen? I wouldn't. But I'm a sucker for naturalization stories and people making the conscious choice to "become American." It stirs my sense of patriotism. Also - I think Beckham is being honest. I think he really enjoys how (mostly) low-key he and his family get to be here, and he likes that his kids get to go to school and be normal and that the whole family isn't under the microscope of the British dailies. Now, does Victoria feel the same way? For some reason, I doubt it. I bet she wishes they were back in England, where she is much more famous. Also - in the LAT piece, Becks also complains a lot about his injuries sustained on the field, but he's optimistic: "I find it hard to sit still and do nothing … but at the end of the day I need to rest my legs. Waking up in the morning, it still takes me a while to get the leg going and it’s still pretty painful. There’s always a satisfaction when you prove people wrong. I’ve been able to do that over the years. Yeah it was great winning FA Cups, Champions League, playing in World Cups, winning [Spanish] La Liga. But now I’m playing in a MLS team and the MLS Cup is the biggest thing in soccer in this country. So it’s an exciting prospect.” Good for him! |
Alanis Morissette is expecting a boy, and she’s due around Christmas Posted: 04 Nov 2010 07:34 AM PDT Just like Jesus! Only Joseph never went by “SoulEye”. Anyway, these are new photos of Alanis Morissette and her husband/baby-daddy Soul Eye (Mario Treadway). She's really far along! I guess I haven't been paying that much attention since she announced, but my guess is that Alanis is due within the next few months - oh, I just saw this, she's due around Christmas. She's carrying very well, I think, and she looks so pretty and healthy. Alanis and Souleye just came back from a holiday, likely their "babymoon" - their second honeymoon before the baby comes and destroys their lives (joking). So that's why Alanis and SoulEye look so tanned and relaxed and happy - they've been living it up in some tropical paradise! Anyway, I know this is old news, but I wanted to use these new photos and I don't think we reported this when it came out - Alanis is definitely having a boy:
[From The Daily Mail] CB thinks that Alanis is definitely going to name the kid something weird, but you never know. As someone with an unconventional name, she might decide to break the odd-name mold and go traditional. Of course, her husband does go by SoulEye… so anything could happen. Brad Pitt walks the ‘Megamind’ red carpet, talks about being a bunny Posted: 04 Nov 2010 06:46 AM PDT Last night was the NYC premiere of Megamind, the new animated film featuring voice work by Will Ferrell, Tina Fey and Brad Pitt. Thus far, Tina and Will have done most of the promotional work for the film, but Brad flew into NYC yesterday to attend the premiere. He didn't get dressed up or anything - Angelina must have picked out his premiere outfit, because I didn't know you could get so many shades of black packed into one outfit. My favorite part is the fingerless gloves! Those look badass. Surprisingly,
[From Us Weekly] Not shocking, any of it. They'll spent Thanksgiving overseas, everyone is doing well, and Brad is concentrating on fatherhood. But I do love that he was "sort of a bunny" for Halloween. There's no shame in that, Brad! He just wears whatever Empress Zahara picks out for him. And here is my favorite photo from the premiere - Brad and Tina Fey posing uncomfortably in the same shot, with Ben Stiller photo-bombing them: |
US Weekly: Kate Gosselin ruins Halloween Posted: 04 Nov 2010 06:28 AM PDT
US Weekly has more on how Kate’s unbridled narcissism “ruined” Halloween. They claim that she took her kids trick or treating, and then proceeded to sleep in the car while her “bodyguard”/lover drove. She snapped at them to keep quiet so mommy could get her beauty rest. She made her eight kids keep quiet on Halloween!
[From US Weekly, print edition, November 15, 2010] I can’t blame Kate for telling Jon to pay child support or sign over custody. It’s not like he’s gainfully employed and earning even a fraction of what she makes, though. He’s eating at Taco Bell with his girlfriend and then complaining when he gets recognized. (No aspersions on Taco Bell here, it’s my favorite fast food.) Kate’s show is being tromped in the ratings by polygamists and she’s about to lose her main source of income. It’s a shame she’s such a piece of work, or maybe the public would have some good will left for whatever future endeavors she gets into. As it is, we’ve seen how she treats her kids and how nasty she was on Dancing with The Stars. No one buys her “working mom” act anymore. |
Is Justin Timberlake preparing Olivia Munn as his jumpoff from Jessica Biel? Posted: 04 Nov 2010 06:25 AM PDT Last week, one of the big stories was Us Weekly calling Justin Timberlake out for cheating on his long-suffering girlfriend Jessica Biel. Once I had read the full Us Weekly piece, I felt strongly that Olivia Munn - JT's alleged mistress/lover/jumpoff - was the one to leak the story. Maybe not Munn herself, but definitely someone in Team Munn, just because too many of the "unnamed sources" were tilted towards a position of "Poor Olivia, JT lied to her and promised that she'd be his girlfriend, how was she to know that he's a player, despite all of the evidence?" Plus, I think Olivia figured two things: one, the story would be more sympathetic to her if she leaked it herself, rather than another tabloid reporting a colder version of the cheating story, and secondly, I think she really wants to be JT's girlfriend, and she's trying to force him to dump Jessica Biel, or have Biel dump JT. So… keep that in mind when you're reading Us Weekly's follow-up. Either JT is totally pissed about the story coming out and he's even closer to Biel, or he's still "in contact" with Olivia Munn:
[From Us Weekly, print edition] For some reason, Biel and JT are sticking to each other like glue. It's like they both think they need each other… either that, or they really do love each other…? I know some are of the opinion that JT needs his "Hollywood girlfriend" if he's going to make it to the Oscars (chuckle), and that Biel needs him because he makes her relevant, but I'm going to be bold and suggest that neither of them needs the other one, and that they'd both be much more interesting without each other. Also, one last story - Star Magazine (via Jezebel) is getting on Us Weekly's bandwagon, and Star is reporting in this week's issue that JT's excuse to Biel was that he's an "easy target" now that The Social Network is so successful. Right. Anyway, Jessica bought that argument, according to Star's sources, "even though he’s been cheating on her for years.” Right? How is his attachment to a successful movie any bigger or better than his success as a pop artist? |
People: Demi Lovato flipped out on a snitch who told on her Posted: 04 Nov 2010 06:17 AM PDT
[From People] One very interesting thing about this story is that it was originally titled “Demi Lovato in Rehab: Why She Went.” (See the top of your browser when you’re on the site.) The title on the page was then changed to “Demi Lovato: Details of the Fight that Sent Her to Treatment.” Demi makes a lot of money for many people, and they want to minimize this incident and in no way taint her with the “rehab” label for years. They’re also trying to make it clear that she’s not on drugs, which may or may not be accurate. Yesterday we mentioned that Demi’s estranged dad spoke to Radar Online about his daughter, and said that he believed the pressure from Hollywood had got to her. He told a story about when she was in preschool and I got the impression that he hadn’t seen her in years. (Demi’s mom and dad were divorced when she was two.) He also said he had cancer and had just gotten out of the hospital after two months of treatment, during which Demi never visited or called. The fact that her dad talked to the press is said to have enraged her handlers at Disney, and Demi’s lawyer issued a response: “No one speaks for Demi except for her designated representatives. Unfortunately, several people have taken it upon themselves to speak out — both on and off the record — about a situation they know nothing about.” Again, this girl makes a lot of people money and they have to make her seem much more together than she obviously is. |
Angelina Jolie actually called a “saint” by Bosnian refugees Posted: 04 Nov 2010 05:57 AM PDT First - these are new photos of Angelina Jolie in Budapest yesterday, while she worked on her feature directorial debut, which is still untitled. Question: Is she drinking coffee from a Budapest McDonalds? Anyway, the print edition of Us Weekly has the funniest sycophantic story about Angelina Jolie this week. Back in April, Angelina and Brad visited Bosnia as part of an official UNHCR goodwill mission. They traveled to refugee camps and met with people who have been refugees for more than a decade. Shortly after their trip, a number of the refugees they had visited were granted a $500,000 housing donation courtesy of the United States government. Coincidence… or sainthood?
[From Us Weekly, print edition] Look, as I've said many times, I admire Angelina enormously for her UNHCR work, and for the time and money she gives. She raises awareness and raises money, and the profile of international refugee crises is raised by her work. But these refugees should really give a little more of the credit to America as a whole, right? Sure, maybe the government wouldn't have given the money if Angelina and Brad hadn't made the trip and brought the ongoing Bosnian refugee issue into the news - but the government was the one to give the money. One last thing - Saint Angelina certainly has a cute leading man, right? Damn. |
Does Portia de Rossi look smug on the cover of People? Posted: 04 Nov 2010 05:51 AM PDT
[From People] When I saw Portia on Oprah it seemed like she realized how insane she was as an anorexic but that she isn’t ashamed of it and was ready to tell her story. She said that her anorexia was a testament to her willpower at the time, and maybe she credits that same willpower with helping her overcome her disorder. I guess what I’m trying to say is that I understand that Portia has a book to promote. Part of that involves sharing what she went through, but I’m getting wary of some of the coverage and am questioning her motives. Yes she wants to help people struggling with eating disorders, but she also wants to sell books and maybe revitalize her acting career. You can’t blame her I guess. On a superficial level, Portia looks very smug in the photo they chose for the cover. It just gives the impression that she’s proud of what she achieved as an anorexic, which People surely didn’t intend. Maybe it’s just the over-arched kind of villainous shape of her eyebrows. |
Jennifer Love Hewitt’s boyfriend gets her flowers every day Posted: 04 Nov 2010 05:34 AM PDT
Inevitably, though, she’s still talking about her love life. This usually gets her plenty of coverage so you can’t blame her. Hewitt recently did a half marathon and later attended an event with her new boyfriend, an actor-director named Alex Beh. They’ve been dating since July and are both comfortable enough about it to talk to the press. It sounds like Alex is quite the romantic, as he gets Jennifer flowers every day. She also gushed about how she believes in love, and hopes to have a family and children.
[Sources linked in text] Hewitt reminds me so much of Jessica Simpson. On one side they’re smart businesswoman who are doing extremely well on their own. On the other they seem to idealize men and relationships to the point where they think the right one will solve all their issues. Life is not like a romantic comedy and the cute dopey guy the girl gets in the end can often end up bugging the shit out of her (and vice versa) after the dopamine wears off. Still, in Hewitt and Simpson’s case it seems like the feeling is mutual with their new guys and that’s sweet. What’s going to happen when Hewitt’s guy forgets the flowers though? Is that going to signal the start of a new “serious” phase in their relationship? That’s usually what happens in the movies, and then they’re driven apart by some contrived situation, only to reunite at the last minute. In the romcoms that Hewitt loves, all conflict is solved by the magic of matrimony. Photo credit: Juan Rico/Fame Pictures |
