Mario's Mother Drops All Charges, Says Mario Didn't Touch Her

Posted: 04 Nov 2010 07:38 AM PDT

Seems like everybody's lucking out today.  Mario's mom Shawntia Hardaway just dropped all charges against her son after she reported a little over a month ago that Mario attacked her.

The deets and her change of story when you read on...

Ms. Hardaway, who is an admitted Heroin addict who has been battling the addiction for years, filed charges against her own son singer Mario back in September.  He was then arrested and charged with second degree assault.

But now, she has dropped all charges according to her lawyer, because she realized she didn't really have a case.  She also changed her story and said Mario never touched her, she was just intoxicated that night when she filed her report.  According to the NY Daily News:

Shawntia Hardaway was intoxicated when she told police her son, whose real name is Mario Dewar Barrett, had pushed her, causing "minor pain," according to police reports. Hardaway's attorney, Richard Woods, said she was simply upset when she filed the report.

"It was much to do about nothing," Woods said, according to the Baltimore Sun. "I met with her, she told me what happened and there wasn't any criminal action on the part of Mario."

Hardaway told police on Sept. 27 that the former "Dancing with the Stars" contestant, 24, pushed her "eight feet into a living room wall," causing her to strike her head.

Mario was arrested and charged with one count of second-degree assault and later released after he posted a $50,000 bond.

His attorney pointed to Hardaway's drug use as a reason for the initial accusations.

"It was clear from the beginning that Mario never touched or struck his mother," he said. "She was under the influence of drugs when she gave her statement to police. To her credit, she corrected her statement in court today."

Wow.  There are many things going on here.  I hope Mario and Shawntia continues to work through the issues.

Reports just broke that Lil Wayne just stepped his first free foot off Rikers Island this morning.  After serving 8 long months in prison--as well as a stint in solitary confinement--he was released at 8:35AM ET.

Weezy turned himself in to the NY authorities last March after he stuck a plea deal from that 2007 case where he was caught with a weapon on his tour bus.

He was sentenced to 1 year, but has gotten out a bit early.  Hope he got his rest.  He's got a lot of babies and baby mamas to kiss....

Gucci Mane RELEASED & Charges DROPPED!

Posted: 03 Nov 2010 09:28 PM PDT

Gucci Mane better thank his lucky prosecutors.  Because the latest charges against him have been dropped.  Deets about Gucci's release Wednesday when you read on...

During today's court appearance in Atlanta, the judge ruled that the state has dropped all charges against Gucci and he is to be released:

It was announced during a first appearance court hearing Wednesday morning the case was being dropped "for want of prosecution." The judge told the performer, whose real name is Radric Davis, that the charges could be refiled.

Apparently, the prosecution did not want to move forward in pursuing the long list of traffic charges Gucci racked up Tuesday.  So he's been released tonight, but the judge says the charges can be refiled.

On Tuesday morning, Gucci was maced, hospitalized, and jailed due to fighting with someone in a parking lot after he ran red lights and drove on the wrong side of the road.

Looks like he avoided an entirely new jail sentence....for now.  Hope he uses this second chance to get the help he so obviously needs.

Jay-Z Claps Back At Hammer's "Better Run Run" Diss Video

Posted: 03 Nov 2010 12:24 PM PDT

On Halloween, MC Hammer released a video he claimed would 'expose' Jay-Z. We've got Hov's response to the diss track when you read on...

MC Hammer released 'Better Run Run' to expose Jay-Z for worshiping the devil and being in the Illuminati. Hov talked about the record in an interview with VladTV.

Jay-Z said, "I didn't know I was the first person to say that", in reference to his verse about Hammer losing millions of dollars on 'So Appalled'. He continued to say, "I said some really great things about him in the book I have coming out....he's going to be embarrassed because I said really great things about him. "

He also says,"He took it the wrong way...I don't know if I said anything wrong, I don't know if I lied."

Here's the full interview:

Seems like Jay-Z considers MC Hammer's track a joke...along with most people who heard it.

POLITICAL FAB: African Americans Make Election History...And Not Only In A Good Way

Posted: 03 Nov 2010 11:25 AM PDT

Midterm elections were a bittersweet moment for many.  Though Republicans are back in control of the House of Representatives (putting a damper on any President Barack Obama policies) a few African Americans managed to make history with their elections.

Why should you care?  Because ish could get even more ugly for EVERYONE.  Read on for deets...

Voters gave control of the House of Representatives to Republicans in midterm elections, possibly sending a message of discontent to Washington two years after Barack Obama's historic win.  By this afternoon, The GOP held 239 seats to the Democrats' 183.  It was a massive gain of 60 seats for the Republicans - the biggest margin in 62 years.  Prez O just said in this afternoon's press conference that he "feels bad" about this and takes the blame.

Rep. John Boehner, a Republican from Ohio, is expected to be the new House speaker, replacing  Rep. Nancy Pelosi, a Democrat from California.  The Democrats retained control of the Senate, but sadly there are no African Americans in the U.S. Senate now.

CBS News reports that approx. only 10% of African Americans turned out to vote (the rumor of 4.7% does not check out).  Still, sad and disappointing to say the least as that's only about 4 million black voters out for over 40 million black americans.  Big Senate elections like Kendrick Meek in Florida were lost.  And now, not only is there no representation of blacks in the U.S. Senate for the next few years, but getting President Obama re-elected in 2012 was just made extremely difficult.  House Republicans will likely make any of the Prez's policy improvements impossible by shooting them down with their majority.

There were a few bright spots for African Americans though.  Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick became the first African-American governor to be given a second term in office. In South Carolina, Tim Scott was elected to Congress becoming one of two black Republican members of Congress.  He joins Tea Party favorite Allen West of Florida, who defeated his Democratic rival. Tim and Allen are the first Black Republicans in Congress since former Congressman J.C. Watts represented an Oklahoma district.

Another milestone was made in a southern state as Terri Sewell, a Princeton and Harvard educated lawyer became the first Black woman to serve in Congress from the state of Alabama.

No word yet on whether Tim or Allen will join the Congressional Black Caucus, which is currently made up of all Democrats.

Lil Wayne Gets Wishes From Former Pres. Clinton, Plans Big Coming Home Bash

Posted: 03 Nov 2010 10:23 AM PDT

Lil Wayne will be leaving prison tomorrow to be welcomed with wishes of good luck from former President Clinton and a big welcome home bash in Miami.

Deets ahead...

Former President Clinton did a radio interview yesterday where he was asked about what he thinks about Lil Wayne's pending release from prison.  His answer gave some insight and well wishes to the rapper:

"I tell you what I think about that. I know this is kinda a funny question for you to ask me. My daughter introduced me to rap and hip-hop music, after I said somethings she thought were not very smart. She said 'dad you need to listen, a lot of these people are smart.' This guy's smart and he's got ability and he's got a new chance now," President Clinton said.

"I hope is that this is not something just to brand him as a cool guy, but that it will never happen again to him," Clinton said of Lil Wayne's time spent behind bars.

"A lot of these people they don't get successful in that, just like any area of life by being really dumb, they're really smart," Clinton continued. "But a lot of them have had really tough lives and they almost think it's cool to get in trouble every now and then or they don't know how to stay out. What I hope will happen is that he has a good life now."

Hopefully Weezy listens and doesn't pull a T.I. or Gucci and stays OUT this time around.

But after his release on Thursday (pending all things go well), party planning guru Colin Cowie has a huge royal-themed welcome home celebration planned in Miami for Weezy.

The party goes down on Sunday and will have hundreds of guests, including Cash Money Records CEO Bryan "Birdman" Williams, Drake, and Jay Sean.  On the menu--kobe burgers and jumbo shrimp, truffled macaroni and cheese and rose champagne.  Yum!
