Comments Roundup: The People of ’16 and Pregnant’ and ‘Teen Mom’ Talk to Crushable

Posted: 19 Jun 2011 10:20 AM PDT

Thanks to the wonders of the Internet, it has become ridiculously easy for celebrities– and those close to them– to connect with their fans. Case in point: We’ve recently realized here at Crushable HQ that we’ve somehow managed to attract a lot of attention from the parties involved in both 16 and Pregnant and Teen Mom. Our immediate reaction? Neat-o! Naturally, in our recaps and other posts, we can only comment on what we see, so it’s fascinating to be able to get insiders’ perspectives. Of course, it’s rather easy to pose as someone else in the great wilderness that is the web, so it’s possible that not all of them are the genuine article; but even so, they’re worth a look. Curious about what sorts of comments we’ve gotten, and from who? In honor of Tuesday’s upcoming 16 and Pregnant season finale, we’ve rounded them all up for you here. Take a peek and let us know what you think!

Nick wrote in this week about a date he went on with Taylor Lumas:

“I went on a double date with her a month ago, she never told me she had a baby not that she had to but i've been texting her still up until 5 days ago. she keeps saying she's still with her boyfriend yet she was texting me. i'm not the kind of dude who would tell people around town because rumors spread fast around cincinnati but really obviously she's a airhead. I mean what kind of idiot says the don't believe in adoption.”

In response to Kianna Randall’s episode, Zak Hegab’s sister Aisha sent us the following:

“With all due respect, if you are going to call them facts, at least get them straight. First of all, our father wasn't around when Zak was growing up. His reasoning in wanting to keep the baby is because he WANTS to be a better father than ours was. Zak AND Kianna brought this baby into the world, and he wants to be a responsible father that is present in their child's life. Matter of fact, he clearly states that's the reason- not because he isn't capable of "emotional maturity". If that were the case, do honestly think he would have said that? Zak would do anything for his son, no matter how much he had to work, how much effort it took, or how tired he would be- hence the reference to our mother, and how she did it. We didn't live in the Taj Mahaal, but the three of us love our mother more than words can say. And we have had every opportunity imagineable. We went to a state recognized school district (and have stayed in that school district to this day), traveled (in and out of the country), participated in school events (band, sports, etc.), and much more. Being a parent isn't easy, single or with someone, but it is doable. And I guarantee you Zak is going to be an amazing father, regardless of his age. I know many mature adults, you pale in comparison to my brother as a dad. Of course it would be easier to give the baby up for adoption, but life isn't easy, and you can't always opt out of a situation. He has a family that loves and supports him. And Kay'Den hasn't been in need for one single, soliarty thing since the day he was born, or conceived, if you want to be technical. Secondly, there is no gender preference. Stating "my son" is a way of personalizing the FACT that they are/were going to have a boy. I've never met anyone who, after finding out the gender, refers to the baby in a universal manner (with respect to the sex). Zak would have loved the baby just as much if it had been a baby girl. Next, Kianna was admitted to the hospital on Friday, and Kay'Den was born the following Monday. Zak stayed there the entire time, and never left the hospital. I delivered food to them personally. And lastly, the only reason why Kianna felt like she was doing everything by herself, unless it was on the weekends, was because she never brought the baby over for the original schedule, which was alternating weeks. Nevermind the fact that Zak would go over there, ALL OF THE TIME, after he got out of class, and to this day still does.”

We haven’t been able to verify this one, but Cleondra Carter’s older sister Zerica may have posted this:

“you're facts are wrong. if you want to know the truth, follow me on twitter @ZeMonroe”

A bunch of readers formed up Team Amber when we introduced you all to Amber Scaggs, Corey Simm’s short-lived girlfriend (after Jordan Humble and his divorce from teen mom Leah Messer):

Mariah: “this shit is definitely not true. Amber is one of my best friends and Amber and Cory are not dating and she didn't fly in to WV just to see him. Her and her ex didn't break up before her daughter was born. Her and Cory are friends and hung out. BFD.”

Casey: “Shut amber is not like that, she is a good person and how do you even know honey dear! i know amber and is def. NOT a horriable mother! GET A LIFE AND LEAVE AMBER ALONE!”

Kam: “Y'all are all retarded. I've known amber for a good while now and she use to live in wv. Therefor having family!!!”

Chelsea Houska herself actually tweeted in response to our comment about her love of leopard-printed things:

And finally (this one is my personal favorite), Chelsea’s dad Randy Houska invited Lilit to swing by to play with Chelsea’s dog the next time she’s in the neighborhood:

“I don't think he will, Lilit. But you can come visit Pixie anytime you are in South Dakota.”

15 Unusual Fictional Fathers for Father’s Day

Posted: 19 Jun 2011 08:45 AM PDT

Ah, Father’s Day: A Hallmark holiday, but a nice idea nonetheless. True, your dad doesn’t have to be a superhero, a badass, or even your actual dad in order to be worthy of celebration (never underestimate the worth of a dad-like figure!), but let’s face it: It would be pretty cool to have one of these unusual dudes as your father. Here’s to these and all the other dads out there. Happy Father’s Day!

Sunday Cute: Turtle Rides a Roomba

I can only imagine what the turtle must be thinking. If it knows what a pinball machine is, maybe it’s comparing the experience to the journey a pinball makes ricocheting around the machine. True, the Roomba is somewhat slower than a pinball machine, but one might then make the argument that it is an appropriately turtle-speed pinball machine. In any event, though, it’s HILARIOUS.

Happy Sunday!

Creepy Things That Seem Real But Aren’t: The Wyoming Incident

Posted: 18 Jun 2011 02:40 PM PDT

Creepy Things That Seem Real But Aren't is a series that explores modern urban legends, bringing you a new tale each week.

Hijacking is a frightening concept. Whether it’s an airplane getting hijacked by a person or a person getting hijacked by something else, the idea of losing control over something you thought you had complete control over has the power to terrify more than you might necessarily think possible. But terrify, it does. Have you ever heard of broadcast signal intrusion? It’s a real thing; it’s what happens when clever people manage to hack their way into radio, television… anything broadcasting a signal. Once they’ve taken over, the hackers can disseminate anything they like over a frequency that is not theirs to use. Naturally, you can see the problems inherent in such an intrusion. You can also probably see that this is the basis for this week’s tale, which we’ll call:

THE WYOMING INCIDENT

In 2006, a video began circulating the Internet. The video was less than a minute long and seemed innocuous enough, if a little odd; but it was perhaps the accompanying text that tipped off its viewers that something strange was going on. The text read as follows:

“The Wyoming Incident (or The Wyoming Hijacking) is a lesser known case of television broadcast hijacking/hacking. A hacker managed to interrupt broadcasts from a local programming channel (believed to serve several smaller communities in the county of Niobrara) and aired his/her own video. The video contained numerous clips of disembodied, human heads showing various emotions and “poses”. The camera position changed often (usually every ten-to-fifteen seconds) and the video was often interrupted by a “SPECIAL PRESENTATION” announcement. This clip is taken from one of these intervals. The video is mostly locally well-known, and would probably not even be that popular if it were not for the effects it had on the few residents who watched it for an extended period of time.”

The text went on to explain that those complaints included vomiting, hallucinations, and headaches, and that these physical ailments were believed to have been caused by the high-pitched noise that played through most of the clip. The hacker, the text noted, had never been caught, and all attempts to trace the video had proven futile.

The video included one message, which appeared roughly 20 seconds into the clip. It told its viewers:

Some time passed before anything came of this strange video. Eventually, though, a link was posted in the comments of the first video, leading viewers to a second video. This new video was posted by a YouTube user called GiveMeANumber, whom followers of the Wyoming Incident would later come to know as a fellow named Jamie. Jamie noted that the video had appeared on his doorstep and that he suspected it was a prank, but that he figured he’d post it to see what the online community made of it. The video took the same form as the first one– “Special Presentation,” bizarre human heads, and so on– but this time, the message read, “WHY DO YOU HATE? YOU ARE ILL. WE JUST WANT TO FIX YOU.” Naturally, a third video followed; this one, titled “Danny’s Collection – 3,” had a sad story attached to it, as its poster told us:

“My brother had quite an interesting collection of underground, bizarre videos. This video (which he only called “3″) was his favorite in his entire collection, despite running only about a minute. He never wanted it uploaded to the internet because he was sort of selfish when it came to his rarer videos. He liked the idea that he was one of the few people who had seen this. I found it a year after his death (I had pretty much forgotten about it), in a box filled with videos of his I guess he’d just recently burnt to DVD. I have no idea who made the video and only a vague idea as to where it came from. My brother came back with it one summer after visiting some friends up around Yellowknife.”

Video: What Is Going On In This Honda Commercial?

Posted: 18 Jun 2011 01:15 PM PDT

I may be coming a little late to this party, as the commercial in question was apparently loaded to Honda’s YouTube channel on April 20, but I have just seen said commercial for the first time, and honestly, I can’t quite figure out what’s going on. It looks like the beginning of a joke– one of the “A [blank], a [blank], and a [blank] walk into a bar” variety– and yet…

Hang on. Let me back up a minute. Here are the facts: The commercial is for the new Honda Civic. Or rather, it’s for the new Honda CivicS– plural. There are five different models, and to play up this angle, the commercials are geared towards showing how five completely different individuals can each find the Civic suited to their own individual needs. My confusion generally comes from the choice of individuals. Some of them, I get; others, not so much, mostly because I can’t figure out what they’re supposed to be. Ninja? Okay. I can deal with that. Zombie? Ditto. The guy in the Mexican wrestling mask is a little harder to explain. Who is he? Why is he wearing a suit? Why is he wearing a suit while wearing a Mexican wrestling mask? I’m not sure, and he weirds me a little. But not as much as the strange hairy creature with the pink cardigan and matching lipstick. Is she a troll? A dwarf? No idea. And THEN there’s the guy who apparently keeps his pet fox on his kitchen table. I assume he’s meant to be a lumberjack, but he looks more like a lumberjack by way of Brooklyn.

I just want to know who was responsible for coming up with this list. How did you make it? What were the criteria? WHO IS THE MAN IN THE MEXICAN WRESTLING MASK? The public has a right to know!

Thoughts, anyone?
