First Listen: Björk, ‘Crystalline’

Posted: 26 Jun 2011 12:40 PM PDT

Earlier this month we got our first tease of Björk‘s new single Crystalline, the first from her upcoming new album Biophilia. As you may recall, Björk released a video of her driving in Iceland with her song playing thru the speakers. Today we get to listen to Crystalline in full! Click below to check it out and hear what Björk has in store for us all with her new iPad-inspired album.

The song sounds, to me, like an outgrowth of the music she made on her 2001 album Vespertine (which, I must add, is among my fave Björk albums). I am so intrigued by the notion that Björk‘s Biophila album was inspired by and created using the Apple iPad. Here is Crystalline:

Underneath our feet
Crystals grow like plants
Listen how they grow
I’m blinded by the lights
Listen how they grow
In the core of the Earth
Listen how they glow

Crystalline
Internal nebula
Crystalline
Rocks growing slow but
Crystalline
I conquer claustrophobia
Crystalline
And demand the lights

We mimic the openness
Of the ones we love
Daft till our generosity
Equalizes the flow
With our hearts
We kiss our quartz
To reach love

Crystalline
Internal nebula
Crystalline
Rocks growing slow but
Crystalline
I conquer claustrophobia
Crystalline
And demand the lights

Octagon, polygon
Pipes up an organ
Sonic branches
Murmuring drone
Crystalizing galaxies
Spread out like my fingers

Crystalline
Internal nebula
Crystalline
Rocks growing slow but
Crystalline
I conquer claustrophobia
Crystalline
And demand the lights

It’s the sparkle you become
When you conquer anxiety
Sparkle you become
Conquer anxiety
Sparkle you become
When you conquer anxiety
It’s the sparkle you become
When you conquer anxiety

I LOVE this track … altho the toy piano has that Vespertine sound, I also hear shades of Homogenic as well. I am really anxious for the release of this album. If Crystalline is any indication, I think I am going to LOVE Biophilia very much! What do y’all think, Björk fans … do you love this track?

A Nice Day For A ‘Blood Wedding’

Posted: 26 Jun 2011 12:14 PM PDT

For the most part, yesterday was a very nice and relaxing day … but last night, I was quite the bizzy little bee. First, David and I made our way to the Odyssey Theater here in LA to see our good friend Josh perform on the opening night of his new play Blood Wedding. After the show, I had to get to West Hollywood to see Missing Persons live in concert at The Viper Room. It was a night of fantastic entertainment, once that I enjoyed very much.

Blood Wedding is a Spanish play written by Federico García Lorca in the 1930s and has been adapted to a more “modern” 1950s central California setting. The staging is very minimal but the direction is very inventive. To be honest, I had no idea what role Josh would be playing in this production … so you can imagine my surprise when he turned out be the STAR of the show. Josh plays Leonardo, a freewheeling devil-may-care man who is trapped in a loveless relationship with the mother of his children. He secretly still loves a former lover who is getting married to another man. Thru various circumstances, Leonardo and the groom end up fighting over the same woman and, as a result … we get the Blood Wedding. David and I were very impressed with all of the performances last night … but we were especially proud of Josh. I thought it would be hard to not see our friend (as we know him in real life) on stage as opposed to the character he ways playing … but right before our eyes, he became the wild and passionate Leonardo on that stage.

Blood Wedding can be seen at the Odyssey Theater from now until August 14. I can’t wait to see it again … and I wholeheartedly suggest that those of you in LA check it out. It’s a powerful play … dark, tragic and unforgettable.

After the performance, there was a small reception in the courtyard next to the theater and after David and I offered our congrats to Josh, I had to make my way to The Viper Room to see Missing Persons play a show:

I LOVE Missing Persons … they were one of the first bands that I fell in love with as a very young child in the 80s. When I heard the original members of the band were heading out on a 30th anniversary tour, I knew there was NO way I was going to miss seeing them. The band was born on the Sunset Strip in the mid 80′s so you can imagine my thrill when I found out their LA date would be ON the Sunset Strip. The band sounded fantastic … I could close my eyes and pretend I was hearing a show from 1986. Here is video I shot of Missing Persons performing their hit song Walking in LA:

Soooo awesome! I had a blast. There were so many MP fans crammed into The Viper Room … it was just so much fun.

Today looks to be a nice, warm Summer day here in LA … I can’t wait to get out and enjoy it. Happy Sunday, y’all!

Jamie Lynn Spears Shares An Adorable Photo Of Her Family

Posted: 26 Jun 2011 11:19 AM PDT

Back in March we learned that Britney Spears‘s younger sister Jamie Lynn Spears joined Twitter … and today we get to see what she and her family have been up to lately. Since JL started tweeting, she’s been posting photos here and there of and with her daughter Maddie Brianne and her babydaddy Casey Aldridge. Today we get to see the CUTEST photo ever of the Spears-Adlridge family releasing a baby turtle back into the wild together.

Releasing a baby turtle!!!

I cannot believe it’s been so long since we learned that Jamie Lynn got herself pregnant with her first baby when she was still such a young girl herself. In the years since, we’ve seen little Maddie grow up and we’ve followed the ups and downs of JL‘s relationship with Casey. To be honest, I was under the impression that the couple broke up ages ago … but either they are still very friendly or they are still very much together. While I had my doubts that this young couple were ready for parenthood, it looks like they’ve been doing just fine and their beautiful daughter is the proof. As I understand it, Jamie Lynn has been spending quite a bit of time in Nashville, TN working on a new album. I wish nothing but the best for Jamie Lynn and her family. I’m so glad to see them all doing so well.

Britney Spears Parties At Club Nikki At The Tropicana In Las Vegas, NV

Posted: 26 Jun 2011 10:40 AM PDT

Britney Spears brought her Femme Fatale Tour to Las Vegas, NV last night and partied afterward at an opening night event at Club Nikki inside the Tropicana Hotel and Casino. Britney and her guys — boyfriend Jason Trawick and managers Adam Leber & Larry Rudolph — partied in the VIP area of the club overseeing the melee below. As her tour continues to roll across America, the reviews keep coming in … and they get better and better. A review, posted on Artist Direct, for her Anaheim, CA show at the Honda Center (which I also attended) was published yesterday … and it’s a fantastic read! Click below to see photos of Britney in Vegas and read the full text of her very favorably reviewed SoCal concert.

As I understand it, Britney didn’t stay long at Club Nikki last night … but she was there long enough to bless the brand new club with her presence in order to kick off the festivities right. She looks really ridiculously happy in the first photo … it’s so great to see her looking so well. Much love goes out to MyLove4Britney for sharing these photos from her LV appearance last night.

And now for that review … as you may recall, David and I were in the hiz at the Honda Center Friday night for Britney‘s second SoCal concert (the first was in LA at the Staples Center last Monday) and we were totally wowed by the performance. It was clear to me that the sold out Honda Center was full of fans who LOVED every single second of the show … including THIS reviewer who had nothing but the most favorable things to say about the show:

There’s a reason why the world fell in love with Britney Spears. It’s because she can do it all. She can sing. She can dance. She can entertain any crowd. She’s a timeless performer in the most classic sense of the word. Somehow, she’s gotten even better at everything she does over the years, and her transcendent showing during The Femme Fatale tour’s stop at the Honda Center in Anaheim illustrated that tenfold. After a mini-movie that could rival any summer blockbuster this year, Britney emerged from an opening inside of the giant video wall center stage. Her outfit certainly sparkled, but not as much as her voice and dance moves did. During a hypnotic “Hold It Against Me” from her latest pop masterpiece Femme Fatale, she sauntered down the steps from the wall cool, calm, and collected before breaking into flawless dancing and singing simultaneously. Smoke rose from the stage as the song’s dubstep drop sharpened the edge that always separated Britney from the pack. Dancers dressed as police surrounded her as she dropped into the center of the stage, and Britney quickly came back for a slick, smooth “Up ‘N’ Down”. She lithely wrapped herself around jail bars flanked by her dancers as she belted out the song’s infectious refrain to overwhelming audience screams. For the undeniable “3″, Britney donned a white fedora and trench coat speaking right to the noir-ish connotations of the Femme Fatale tour. However, she built a one-of-a-kind space where Kim Basinger’s elegant L.A. Confidential beauty becomes enveloped by edgy modern dance attitude. “3″ gave way to a massive sing-a-long, perfectly prefacing Britney emerging from a giant speaker during “Big Fat Bass”. Bright red lights flashed as Britney shook through the song’s impenetrable groove in a vibrant pink ensemble. During “How I Roll”, she cruised out in a pink car, never failing to continually impress. “If U Seek Amy” saw Britney don a long flowing skirt fanned up by grates below the stage as more ’40s crime flick-inspired black-and-white footage flashed behind her. Marrying old school detective fare and stadium-size anthems is something no other pop star has done, and once again Britney’s the first. Britney quickly transported the fun to Egypt during a seductive “Gimme More”, which led to fireworks blazing through the arena. She also managed to flex her talents during too incendiary covers—Madonna’s “Burning Up”, where she rode a giant fire-shooting guitar and Rihanna’s “S&M”. Her own pop classics, “Toxic” and “Womanizer”, sounded simply scorching with all of the larger-than-life live production, and they solidified her place alongside Madonna and Michael Jackson as one of the most important singers and entertainers ever. The show’s finale of “Till The World Ends” closed everything out with final earth shattering explosion as Britney flew across the arena above everyone. It was breathtaking, and it was simply Britney. She didn’t have to say much either, she let the music and moves do all the talking … [The Femme Fatale tour is] not to be missed … You’ll love it, and it’s a landmark for modern pop.

Oh yeah, I couldn’t agree more … this show has to be SEEN to fully understand how fantastic it is. I, personally, came to the conclusion ages ago that Britney has joined the ranks of Madonna and Michael Jackson in the stratosphere of Pop Music iconicness so I’m glad to hear another reviewer feel the same way. The Femme Fatale Tour truly is larger-than-life … you MUST see it for yourself, trust me.

Oh and one more cute thing … remember yesterday how I mentioned that David and I were seated right next to Britney‘s young sons Sean Preston and Jayden James at her concert in Anaheim Friday night? Well, just before she hit the stage, Britney shared a cute photo of her boys helping her get ready for the show:

Almost finished with my hair and makeup Anaheim. See you soon. -Britney

GAHHHH!! So cute! I am SO thrilled that Britney‘s tour is doing so well … she still has a LOT of the US to visit before she makes her way to Europe later in the Summer. If you don’t have your tickets yet GET THEM! This will be the concert of the year … and you don’t want to miss seeing it, do you?

Mariah Carey Shares The First Photo Of Her Daughter Monroe

Posted: 26 Jun 2011 10:06 AM PDT

It’s been about 7 weeks since we learned that Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon became the proud parents of twin babies they named Monroe and Moroccan Scott and we’ve seen nary hide nor hair of the little darlings … nada. All of that changed yesterday when Mimi tweeted the FIRST PHOTO of her daughter Monroe for all the world to see. While we don’t actually get a very good look at the little girl’s face, we do get to see her cute and tiny little hand and her full head of hair as she lays in her baby chair. Check out the adorbs photo below.

#dembabiesruntings -This is baby Monroe saying “no pictures dahhhhling” at 7+1/2 weeks..oh dear :)

It feels like Mimi and Nick are getting really close to releasing the first official photos of their babies … and this photo is just a teaser of what’s to come. Altho we don’t really see anything substantial in the photo, I’m guessing the publication they’ve made their “first photo” deal with is prolly really nervous that Mariah is teasing photos of her babies on Twitter. I, personally, hope she continues to tease photos … cuz I wanna see the cute little darlings. I think it’s only fair that she tease a photo of Moroccan Scott next, don’t you? Perhaps a photo of his litte foot?

Rachel Weisz & Daniel Craig Got Hitched!

Posted: 26 Jun 2011 09:25 AM PDT

Congratulations are in order for newlyweds Rachel Weisz and Daniel Craig because, we are learning this weekend, the couple were wed in secret last Wednesday! As you may recall, we first saw photographic evidence that Rachel and Daniel had coupled up last December, just one month after she announced her split from Darren Aronofsky. Rachel and Daniel did everything they could to keep their relationship a secret, only allowing themselves to be photographed together just a few times (and very likely, on accident). Click below to read all the known deets of the couple’s secret wedding last week.

After a short, quiet courtship, Daniel Craig and Rachel Weisz have pulled off a near-impossibility in Hollywood: A secret wedding! A rep for Weisz confirms to PEOPLE that the actress has wed the James Bond actor. As the Daily Mail first reported, the couple married in front of just four people in New York last Wednesday. The lucky guests? Daniel’s daughter Ella, 18, and Weisz’s son Henry, 4, and two friends, the Mail reports. First linked last fall, Weisz, 41, and Craig, 43, spent Christmas together in the U.K. The real-life newlyweds play husband and wife in the upcoming Dream House, due in theaters this fall. Weisz can be seen next in The Whistleblower, a thriller opening August 5.

Wow! I had no idea that the couple were so seriously serious. They haven’t be together for very long and she *just* got out of her marriage with Aronofsky when these two coulped up (I presume … it is possible that they’ve been together longer but …). I suppose when you know, you know. Now that the couple are legally wed, perhaps they’ll be less restrictive about being seen together. Let’s send our love and congrats to the happy couple today!
