Lady Gaga does anime-eyes in Japan, for charity: busted or awesome?

Here are some photos of Lady Gaga in Japan over the weekend, where she performed at the MTV Video Music Aid Japan concert, which raised money for the Japanese Red Cross. Gaga has done a lot to raise money for Japanese relief and rebuilding funds in the wake of the March tsunami, which left so much of Japan devastated. Before we talk about how Gaga is a good person for focusing so much energy on Japanese relief funds, can we talk about her "eyes"? When I first saw the photos, I thought she had actually attached something ON TOP of her eyes to make them look like those big-eyed girls from anime and manga that the Japanese embrace. But Gaga achieved the look with makeup, I think. She just did the "big eye" look on her eyelids, and THEN SHE KEPT HER EYES SHUT. The entire time.

Gaga not only performed, she did a press conference (video below) where she discussed her struggles (although I think she's still telling some lies about what it was like for her to grow up in Manhattan, but whatever), and she says that her own struggles made her understand that people should "Never give up on the dream of Japan; never give up on the dream of its people; and never give up on the dream of the future.” A lovely sentiment, which Gaga said WITH HER EYES CLOSED. She's… crazy…? Or is she just trying too hard? Or should we give her credit for really believing in a look and working to pull it off? Eh.

Rachel Weisz & Daniel Craig were “secretly” married in New York

My GOD. Rachel Weisz married her jumpoff! And what a lovely jumpoff he is. According to Rachel's rep, Rachel and Daniel Craig GOT MARRIED on Friday in upstate New York. Um… they're both British? Why not get married in England? Maybe they were celebrating New York state's gay marriage vote, especially considering Daniel Craig likes to roughly French kiss dudes outside of gay bars?!? This makes no sense, on any level other than: HOT. Rachel and Daniel are in a mutual dong-and-biscuit-lust/haze. They split from their partners last year - for Daniel, he split with long-term girlfriend Satsuki, for Rachel, she split from her baby-daddy Darren Aronofsky - so maybe they just had a "BAM!" moment of "This is right, we must do this, and it must be hot." Or, you know, Rachel could be knocked up.

Release the doves! Rachel Weisz and Daniel Craig got married Friday in upstate New York, Weisz’s rep confirms to Us Weekly.. Craig, 43, and Weisz, 41, costar in the upcoming horror film Dream House, which will hit theaters in September 2011.

Weisz split with beau Darren Aronofsky, a producer, in November 2010. The two have a son together, Henry Chance (5). In December 2010, only a month after ending her nine-year relationship with Aronofsky, Weisz and Craig were spotted packing on the PDA in the Englsh countryside town of Somerset.

The James Bond actor was married to actress Fiona Loudon from 1992 to 1994. The two have one daughter together, Ella (19).

After only a few months of dating, the sexy British couple was spotted “making out” at an anniversary party for NYC club, The Box, in February. “They were adorable,” an observer told Us, adding that the lovers left their table and “started dancing… and they were kissing!”

[From Us Weekly]

So… Rachel could never be bothered to marry Darren, Daniel could never be bothered to marry Satsuki, and now suddenly they're both "Let's Get Married!" people? I'm not a marriage person either, but I am a person who appreciates consistency. Still, I'm not going to yell about it. Mostly because I'm really turned on at the thought of Daniel and Rachel consummating their marital love. As far as joint hotness goes, in my mind, they're right up there with Brangelina and Paul Bettany/Jennifer Connelly.

Congrats to the happy couple (and what I'm sure is a baby on the way)!

Note: People Magazine and The Mail are claiming that Rachel and Daniel got married on Wednesday, not Friday. I don’t know which is right.

Jennifer Aniston got a tattoo of her dead dog’s name on her foot

The weirdest thing happened with Jennifer Aniston. She's a HOMEWRECKER!!! No, that's not the weird thing, honestly. She got a tattoo on her foot. Because her boyfriend of just a few weeks - the one that she took to her taping of Inside the Actor's Studio - has lots of tattoos, and Aniston can play with the big, hardcore boys, right? Why is Aniston so full of conspiracies lately? Anyway, we don't have the photos where you can make out the blurry cursive on right foot, but you can see them here, at Dlisted. According to People Magazine, who got the word from Aniston's rep, the tattoo says "Norman" - after her recently deceased dog, the one whose death announcement came, oddly enough, weeks after he died, and on the same day Brad Pitt's film premiered at Cannes. When Aniston did her taping of Inside the Actor's Studio, she also said that "Norman" was her favorite word. So… did she really get her dead dog's name tattooed on her?

Here's the thing: the recent photos out there of Aniston's feet are kind of blurry, as I said. I gave them a cursory 10-second examination, and it honestly doesn't look like it says "Norman" despite what Aniston's rep said. Life & Style recently noted that one of Justin's tattoos says "Odi et Amo" (Latin for "I hate and I love") - I swear, it looks like Aniston's tattoo has a big "O" at the beginning. Maybe she just got "Oprah" tattooed on it. It would make more sense to me.

But, whatever. I'm sure I'm wrong. If her rep confirmed it to People, I guess she really did get her dog's name tattooed on her. Norman really did see Aniston through a lot of stuff, and he was her longest relationship ever. I wonder if Justin went with her to the tattoo parlor? I wonder if Justin thinks getting your dog's name for a tattoo is HARDCORE?!

Rosie Huntington-Whiteley’s silver Naeem Khan in Berlin: pretty or boring?

These are photos of last night's Berlin premiere of Transformers: Dark of the Moon. Rosie Huntington Whiteley, your new Megan Fox, wore this silver-grey Naeem Khan Fall 2011 gown, with a fully exposed back. I'm not in love with the dress (on Rosie), but I don't actively dislike it either. It's just sort of there. But I will say this: for whatever reason - styling, hair, dress, lighting - Rosie looks surprisingly butch here. And she's usually a very "delicately" pretty girl, but for reason, her features look kind of harsh and masculine here, for me at least. Still, I like the dress better than that fug Gucci she wore in Moscow - but I don't like the Naeem Khan as much as the Michael Kors. I appreciate Rosie's efforts to bring the fashion porn, though. The fashion (and the Malkovich) are the only things keeping me interested in this film's promotion.

Speaking of The Malkovich, he was at the Berlin premiere as well, with the other dudes. Almost everyone chose a shade of grey. Is that weird? Oh, and Shia looks rough! I think it's the facial hair. It's too scraggily.

Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge, wears a smart navy suit: lovely or meh?

These are new photos from a medal ceremony in England yesterday, where the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge appeared. Kate wore this rather lovely and appropriate navy coat dress (and there seems to be a skirt or a sheath underneath it), with a militaristic vibe that suited the occasion - she was handing out medals to members of the Irish Guards who served in Afghanistan. I'm sure I'm wrong about this, but I think Kate is wearing a gold shamrock pin to signify her allegiance to the Irish Guards, who in Queen Victoria's time were actually Irish…? And because the Queen and Prince William both hold ranks with the Irish Guards. Anyway, I like Kate's fascinator here.

The Duchess of Cambridge displayed her compassionate side during Prince William’s first event as the Colonel-in-Chief of the Irish Guards on Saturday.

Dressed in an elegant navy blue coat dress with matching heels, Kate spent about an hour privately meeting the families of three Irish guardsmen killed in Afghanistan. She also wore a fascinator and a gold shamrock brooch similar to the insignia worn by the Irish Guards – previously owned by Princess Anne and the Queen Mother. Her visit was twice as long as the originally scheduled 30 minutes.

Kate was very pleased to be undertaking the role for a cause “so close to her husband’s heart,” said a royal aide. The duchess later presented Afghanistan campaign medals to 60 men from the First Battalion Irish Guards at Victoria Barracks in the shadow of Windsor Castle.

Personalized Attention
The royal couple, who are about to embark on their North American tour, made sure to have a conversation with each soldier they met.

Kate spent extra time with double-amputee Lance Corporal Scott Harrington, 26, who lost both legs in a Taliban IED explosion. William mirrored this concern while presenting a medal to Guardsman Lamin Manneh, 34, a triple-amputee from Ghana who suffered his injuries from another IED on New Years Eve.

Their efforts were duly noted. Irish Guard Nadine Gwendu, 25, one of the few female members of the regiment to serve in Afghanistan, tells PEOPLE, “When I found out that I had been selected to meet them I was so happy as Prince William is so handsome. But even though I didn't get to meet him, I did get to meet Catherine, which is just as great.”

“When we were in Afghanistan I really wanted to go to the wedding, but obviously we didn’t get an invite,” Gwendu continues. “So for me this is like going to the wedding and she even shook my hand. The Irish Guards is like a close-knit family, so to have William and Kate join the family is brilliant. I can now say that Kate is a member of my family – even though she is married to my prince!”

“She is very pleasant and funny – and a lot taller than me!” adds Guardsman Carl Dodds, 23. “To switch the TV on for the royal wedding and see him stood there in his Irish Guards uniform in all its glory, was a very special moment.”

The Prince Shows His Appreciation
The feeling was mutual for William.

“It was with wonder that as Catherine and I rode through the Centre Gate of Buckingham Palace, there you were,” he said of the Guards role at the royal wedding.

“I am proud to be your Colonel. I am humbled by the thought of the sacrifices that you and your families have made and the losses that you suffered, all in the service of our country.”

[From People]

Well, that's good for Kate that she's already doing so many public events. I don't know why the Palace made such a big deal about how she wasn't going to take anything on right away, after being married. Kate's done very well at everything she's been thrown. Sidenote: If you'd like to read a nice piece about the history of the Irish Guards, go here.

By the way, a few days ago the Palace released another formal portrait of Kate and Will - people are making a big deal about how Kate "recycled" another dress (from a pre-engagement event), but I think the photo was actually taken a few months ago, when Kate wore the suit for the first time.

Angelina Jolie’s Louis Vuitton “Core Values” commercial released

Posted: 26 Jun 2011 05:23 AM PDT

jolie13

Below is the first video/commercial for Angelina Jolie's Louis Vuitton ad campaign. It's not really about buying luxury leather goods, though. It seems more like a travel ad for Cambodia. Which is to say… after watching this, I felt like "Damn, I should travel more" rather than "Damn, I should buy a Louis Vuitton handbag." As we talked about when we saw the first print ad from the campaign, LV and Angelina are working on something called the "Core Values" campaign, which is basically like "Louis Vuitton applauds people who aren't JUST pretty, but have something to offer the world." People like Bono and Mikhail Gorbachev also do "Core Values" ads.

It's nice. Angelina looks very pretty, and the shots are about her lovely face rather than her odd feet. The script is "In 2000, Angelina Jolie made her first trip to Cambodia… It was a journey that would change her life forever." Because it was in Cambodia that Angelina decided to become a UNHCR goodwill ambassador, and adopt her son Maddox, and buy a huge tract of land and turn it into a nature preserve, and build a hospital, etc.
