Listen: Ryan Adams (Featuring Mandy Moore), ‘Empty Room’

Posted: 28 Jun 2011 05:01 PM PDT

Last April we got to watch video of Ryan Adams and wife Mandy Moore performing a song together during a soundcheck at one of his performances. Today we get to hear the couple singing together properly on a new single. Ryan is currently touring in Europe and at his shows he is selling a 7″ single called Empty Room and, wouldn’t you know it … Mandy sings backing vocals on the track. Take a listen below.

Along dates on this summer's solo tour, Ryan Adams has been selling a new single on limited 7" vinyl: "Empty Room," backed by a cover of Alice in Chains' "Nutshell." As CoS points out, a UK fansite detailed the release that includes his wife, Mandy Moore, listed as the harmony vocalist on the track, marking the first non-live collaboration we've heard from the couple. The original tune … was co-produced by Easy Tiger's Jamie Candiloro, so this is likely not a glimpse at Adams' forthcoming Glyn Johns-produced LP that's been previewed live recently. Regardless, "Empty Room" is a fine addition to the alt-country side of Adams' oeuvre, not to mention proof that Moore can fill the shoes of his notable past guests with laudable results.

Finally … a proper collaboration between Ryan and Mandy. I absolutely LOVE Ryan‘s music and I am dying for a new album. I’m also hoping Ryan will tour the US so I can get my hands on this Empty Room single. I’ve been waiting for R-Andy M-Adams to make music together … and my guess is that this song is not the only one they’ve recorded. I’d love to hear more … as for this single, I really love it. Do you?

Sarah Michelle Gellar Will Promote ‘Ringer’ At 2011 San Diego Comic-Con

Posted: 28 Jun 2011 04:00 PM PDT

Great news, Sarah Michelle Gellar fans … Entertainment Weekly is reporting that SMG will be making an in-person appearance at 2011 San Diego Comic-Con next month to promote her new CW TV series Ringer (set to air this Fall TV season). Not since 2004, when Gellar was promoting the horror film The Grudge, has SMG deigned to appear amongst the geeky faithful at Comic-Con so … if you want to see her up close and personal, now’s your chance!

For only the second time in her career as a geek goddess, Sarah Michelle Gellar is going to Comic-Con. Gellar will star on The CW's panel for her return to TV in the fall show Ringer. She'll take the stage along with co-stars Nestor Carbonell, Ioan Gruffudd, Kristoffer Polaha, and the show's creative team. The panel will also give away a three-night stay in a luxurious hotel suite adjacent to Comic-Con (what every fan secretly wants — not posters or T-shirts, but the coveted hotel room upgrade). The last time she was at the San Diego fan convention it was for her 2004 horror movie The Grudge. (Nope, not Buffy the Vampire Slayer.)

OMG … the geeks are going to go WILD! SMG rarely appears at any fan functions so I’m certain news of her Comic-Con appearance has set fans into a frenzy. SMG may be on hand to promote Ringer but you can be sure that the Buffy the Vampire Slayer faithful will be coming out in droves to see their Queen in person. Even tho I’m SUCH a geek, I’ve never really had the desire to attend Comic-Con … but I gotta say … news that SMG will be in the hiz is giving me second thoughts. I can’t wait to hear how fans will handle her upcoming appearance.

Anne Hathaway Talks To ‘Harper’s Bazaar’ Magazine About Her Catwoman Training

Posted: 28 Jun 2011 03:00 PM PDT

Last week we watched video of True Blood star Joe Manganiello showing off his “werewolf workout” to Details magazine and today we get the skinny on another supernatural workout. Anne Hathaway is featured on the cover and in the pages of the new issue of Harper’s Bazaar magazine in in her coverstory interview, she talks a wee bit about the training she is doing to play the role of Catwoman in the upcoming sequel film Batman: The Dark Knight Rises. Click below to see Anne‘s Bazaar coverphoto, read some excerpts from her interview and check out some photos from her fun London-themed photospread.

Anne Hathaway has learned that it takes a lot more than milk and a few naps to perfect her Catwoman mojo for “The Dark Knight Rises.” “I’ve always thought that skinny was the goal, but with this job I also have to be strong,” she told Harper’s Bazaar. Along with a high-level acting performance as Selina Kyle, a character previously defined by the likes of Julie Newmar and Michelle Pfeiffer, Hathaway has had to prepare her body for the Christopher Nolan project’s twists, bends and occasional moments involving the martial arts. Her new regimen? Five days a week of high-intensity workouts and stunt training, following by an hour and a half of dance class to keep her lean, she told the mag.

While I really love Anne Hathaway, I’m still having a very hard time seeing her as Catwoman. I’m curious to hear more about her Catwoman training and I’m DYING for our first look at her in character on set. As you may recall, we got our first look at Tom Hardy as Bane last month … my guess is that we may get a tease of Anne as Catwoman sometime this year. I hope her workout regimen is successful … she has a long way to go to convince me that she can play the lithe and feline Catwoman. Watch: A French Trailer For ‘Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol’ Leaks To The Internets

Posted: 28 Jun 2011 02:00 PM PDT

The first trailer for the upcoming sequel film Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol wasn’t due to be shown in theaters until the release of Transformers: Dark of the Moon later this week but a French dubbed version of the trailer has leaked to the Internets just days after it was screened in French movie theaters last weekend. Click below for your first look at Tom Cruise, Jeremy Renner and others in action in the 4th Mission: Impossible film due out in December.

A trailer from “Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol” has leaked online. It is pretty difficult to understand the snippet as it is dubbed into French, but the video does give a sneak peek of Tom Cruise and Jeremy Renner in action-packed scenes. Previously, the trailer for the fourth “Mission Impossible” film was reported to be premiered before “Transformers: Dark of the Moon”. According to The Film Stage, the trailer will be about two minutes long, and will feature Eminem’s song “Won’t Back Down”. “Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol” is directed by Brad Bird, and also stars the likes of Ving Rhames, Paula Patton, Josh Holloway and Simon Pegg. The action movie is expected to hit U.S. theaters on December 16.

It would appear that this trailer is the same one that will be shown in US theaters in front of Transformers, which includes the Eminem song Won’t Back Down. As much as Tom Cruise still kinda irks me, his relaxed craziness in recent years has made him much less irksome. I’m not gonna lie … I really like the previous Mission: Impossible films so … I’m kinda interested in this new film. Thus far, I like what I see in this first trailer (even if my rusty French won’t let me decipher the dialogue properly). I can’t wait to see a clearer version of this trailer … in English. What do y’all think? Are you impressed with this first (French) look at the new Mission: Impossible film?

Shia LaBeouf Tells ‘Details’ Magazine That He Got Romantic With Megan Fox

Posted: 28 Jun 2011 01:00 PM PDT

Transformers star Shia LaBeouf is featured on the cover and in the pages of the new issue of Details magazine and in his coverstory interview he comes clean about a rumor that has been going on for some time now. It was rumored that he and his former Transformers co-star Megan Fox enjoyed a romantic dalliance on the set of their film while she was still involved with her now husband Brian Austin Green. In this new Details interview, Shia comes clean and admits that the pair did hook-up once upon a time on the set of Transformers.

Shia LaBeouf says the onscreen chemistry fans saw between him and former co-star Megan Fox on the first two installments of “Transformers” was the real thing – the 25-year-old actor claims he hooked up with the bombshell. When asked by Details magazine in an interview for their August if he’d ever been intimate with Megan, Shia nodded in the affirmative. “Look, you’re on the set for six months, with someone who’s rooting to be attracted to you, and you’re rooting to be attracted to them,” he told Details. “I never understood the separation of work and life in that situation. But the time I spent with Megan was our own thing, and I think you can see the chemistry onscreen.” When asked if Megan, 25, was with then-boyfriend-and-now-husband Brian Austin Green at the time, Shia said, “I don’t know, man. I don’t know. I don’t know. I don’t know,” repeating the phrase 12 separate times, then added, “It was what it was.” A rep for Megan told Access Hollywood, “We do not have a comment.”

It turns out that Shia didn’t merely kiss and tell about his hook-up with Megan … he also talked to Details about a tragic date he went on with Hilary Duff (calling their date “probably the worst date either of us have ever had”) and revealed that ex-girlfriend Carey Mulligan is still very dear to him (font color=white>”I still love her … We’re still pals. I wouldn’t take any of it back, and I don’t think she would either. It just ran its course.”). It should come as no surprise whatsoever that Shia is happily sowing his wild oats. The guy is young, famous and rich … I’m certain we don’t know the half of his bad boy ways. As for his dalliance with Megan, well, I just hope for her sake that hubby Brian Austin Green knew about her hook-up with Shia before this interview came out … otherwise, she’ll have a lot of explainin’ to do. If you’re interested, you can read the full Details interview with Shia LaBeouf HERE. Does this confirmation that he and Megan hooked up surprise any of you at all?

Movie Review: ‘Bad Teacher’

Posted: 28 Jun 2011 12:02 PM PDT

Last night, against my personal wishes, I went to a showing of Bad Teacher with Darion, Josh and David and, I’m actually surprised to say, it was actually a pretty fun night. Bad Teacher is nowhere near the best movie of the year and, to be honest, I wouldn’t even call it a great movie … but it’s pretty good and much better than I was expecting. For the most part, the film was pretty predictable but, try as I might, I couldn’t resist laughing out loud once or twice. Bad Teacher wasn’t a good movie, necessarily … but it also isn’t a terrible movie.

I was really surprised by how much I liked Cameron Diaz in this flick. I can’t say that I’m a big fan of most of her movies but she really holds her own as the lead in Bad Teacher. Her comic timing could use a bit of work but all in all … she wasn’t bad. Justin Timberlake, on the other hand, was pretty terrible. His character was pretty crappy and that’s a large part of why I disliked him in the film but even more importantly, I just don’t find him funny. He tries, bless his heart but … no, he’s not good in this film. Jason Segel, I’m sorry to say, was pretty forgettable. I was hoping his character would turn out better than it did but, alas … it did not. Instead the break-out star is Lucy Punch who plays Amy Squirrel. Her character was irritating as the “villain” but Punch played her perfectly. Again, I wasn’t really wowed at all by Bad Teacher but as far as a fun night out at the movies with friends … it was suitable.

Tonight, David and I will be meeting up with our friends Darion and Woody at the Staples Center to see Rihanna in concert! Tonight should be a blast … cannot wait!! Happy Tuesday!

Tom Hanks Reveals That Pixar Is Working On ‘Toy Story 4′

Posted: 28 Jun 2011 10:09 AM PDT

While promoting his new film Larry Crowne, which held its Hollywood premiere here in LA last night, Tom Hanks dished to the BBC that Pixar is “working … now” on the sequel film Toy Story 4. As you may recall, Toy Story 3 was a HUGE hit last year and just last weekend, the animated short Toy Story: Hawaiian Vacation debuted in front of showings of Cars 2 in theaters. Clearly, there is still very much interest in the Toy Story characters … and where there’s interest, there’s money … and where there’s money, there are movie sequels.

Following critical acclaim, an Oscar for Best Animated Feature and a global box office take of $1,063,171,911, “Toy Story 3″ was beyond successful. Combine that gold with the film having ended with Woody and the gang getting a new, youthful owner, and a fourth film would seem a no brainer. And according to Tom Hanks, it’s already underway. When asked by a BBC interviewer whether his new granddaughter would have a fourth “Toy Story” to see, the voice of Woody said, “I think there will be, yeah. I think they’re working on it now.” The work on “Toy Story” actually hasn’t stopped with the release of the third film; Pixar released a short, “Hawaiian Vacation,” ahead of their newest film, “Cars 2,” which won the box office this past weekend. They’ll release another later this year, rumored to be planned ahead of “The Muppets.” Disney is also introducing another new storyline for the film series’ characters, a space adventure featuring Buzz Lightyear and space-suit clad Woody and Rex blasting off to fight the evil Zurg, to be featured in new toys and a digital book.

Despite reports that claimed Pixar was not planning on making any films beyond Toy Story 3, I KNEW that the audience demand would prove too great for them not to capitalize on the franchise with at least one more film. Now that the Toy Story toys have a new home and new friends in Bonnie‘s room, the way is paved for an entire new set of Toy Story films to take place. News of Toy Story 4 being in the works comes as ZERO surprise to me. As long as Pixar continues to work their magic and put out GOOD Toy Story films, I fully support as many sequels as possible. I just hope they keep putting out quailty movies … cuz once the franchise starts to feel stale and crappy, I’d be out. What do y’all think of another Toy Story film? Are you game?

‘Newsweek’ Magazine Imagines What Princess Diana Might Look Like At Age 50

Posted: 28 Jun 2011 09:34 AM PDT

Diana, the Princess of Wales would’ve been 50 years old this Friday had she not died in that tragic car accident back in 1997 and this week the US magazine Newsweek imagines what her life would be like today if she had lived. For their coverphoto, Newsweek has even gone so far as to Photoshop Diana to make her look 50 and placed her alongside Kate Middleton, who just married her son Prince William. I have to say … this entire Newsweek feature on what Diana might be like at 50 (had she not died 14 years ago) is really kinda creepy … click below to see for yourselves.

Had she lived, Princess Diana would have celebrated her 50th birthday this coming Friday. Ever ponder how things might have turned out for the people’s princess had that fatal 1997 car crash never happened? Newsweek’s Tina Brown has ever-so-kindly tried her hand at taking some of the guesswork out of that equation. The rather jarring cover features an imaginary present-day Diana strolling with the daughter-in-law she never knew: An age-projected photo illustration of Di is digitally superimposed at the side of the former Kate Middleton, the commoner who married Prince William, emerging from Westminster Abbey in April as Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge. While many fans were imagining the high glamour and higher emotion Diana’s presence would’ve brought to the royal wedding, the cover and accompanying story takes it bigger, imagining one version of where she would be today. “Gliding sleekly into her 40s, her romantic taste would have moved to men of power over boys of play,” she writes, saying Diana’s entire life would be about philanthropy and dizzying power circles, in addition to sons William and Prince Harry. Daily Beast founder and Diana expert Brown has a rather dramatic vision of a modern Di, tweeting at the Dalai Lama and owning a deliriously designed Facebook page (featuring another age projection of Diana clutching an iPhone). Imaginary Diana has a lofty apartment in New York, a strange but comforting friendship with ex-husband Charles, Prince of Wales, and naturally a front-row next to Victoria Beckham at Fashion Week.

As interesting as all of this guesswork may be, I can’t help but feel this creepy coverstory is horrible exploitative. Newsweek came up with an inventive way to capitalize on what would’ve been Princess Diana‘s 50th birthday, riding high on excitement of Prince William and Kate Middleton‘s visit this week to North America in the wake of the hoopla surrounding their royal wedding last April. I imagine it might be jarring and very likely offensive to the British Royal Family to see Diana on the cover of Newsweek alongside Kate. Newsweek even put together a mock-up of what Diana‘s Facebook page might look like if she were still alive today:

This is all so … weird. I think many of us have imagined what Diana‘s life might be like today, especially around the time of her eldest son’s wedding this Spring. That said, I don’t think it’s cool at all for Newsweek to splash this aged image of Diana on their cover. Had the magazine kept their speculation inside the magazine (and shied away from Photoshopping her), I think the feature might’ve been more palatable. What do y’all think? Is this Newsweek coverstory on What Could’ve Been regarding Princess Diana‘s life interesting or offensively tacky?

Johnny Knoxville Eulogizes His Late Friend Ryan Dunn

Posted: 28 Jun 2011 08:35 AM PDT

Last week, just days after Ryan Dunn was killed in a senseless drunk driving car accident, Johnny Knoxville and the rest of the Jackass family convened at a funeral home in West Chester, PA for a memorial service in honor of their late friend. At that memorial service, Knoxville tried to eulogize Dunn in front of family and friends but, apparently, was unable to do so as he would’ve liked. On the official Jackass website this week, Knoxville posted a touching eulogy to Ryan Dunn in order to express what he was unable to convey at the memorial service last week … and it is a very touching read. Click below to read Johnny Knoxville‘s eulogy for his fallen friend Ryan Dunn.

in memory of ryan—from knoxville with love

At Ryan’s memorial Wednesday night in West Chester, people were invited up to the microphone to say a few words about his life, whatever they were feeling at that moment. I walked to the podium and tried to share memories of my dear friend, but the words were just spinning in my head. What came out were the mumblings of a man trying his best not to cry, and I wasn’t even successful at that. I didn’t break down, because I knew Angie or his family didn’t need to see that, but I also didn’t get to properly convey what Ryan meant to me. I won’t be able to do that here either, but I will try. Here is what I wished I could have told everyone then.

I felt 34-percent funnier when I was with Ryan, but I guess everyone did. He had such a hair trigger laugh reflex. He lived his life wanting to laugh and wanting you to laugh with him. He would cackle really fucking loud, too, and it wasn’t uncommon that he would fall over from it. Sometimes I would fall with him because his spirit was very contagious.

He wasn’t incapable of seriousness, though. Ryan was a great listener. If you were having troubles, he was always someone you could go sit down and talk to. Granted, most of our sitting down was actually standing up playing pool together, but he was always there if you were sad about something. That’s why all this is even harder because right now I really need to talk to him but I can’t.

Ryan also had an enormous capacity to love. His friends and family got a lot, but a lion’s share of that went to his sweet and beautiful Angie. If he wasn’t with her he would be talking about her. More times than not he would smile wide through that filthy ass beard of his and say something along the lines of, “How did I ever luck up and land her?” Well, it sure wasn’t because of the way he smelled that’s for sure. (Dunn despised water and rarely bathed.) It was because he had a pure, open heart, and many other qualities of which I am writing about now.

He was very loyal, too, and sometimes that bit him in the ass. We were filming a bit for number two where someone was going to stand in front of the Stingmore mine as it exploded. After we did the test, nobody wanted to do it except me. I wasn’t thrilled about it, but I knew we needed footage. As I was doing my usual pre-stunt ritual of sitting in someone’s car listening to Roger Alan Wade very loudly, Dunn climbed in the backseat. He asked me if I was doing it and I said, “Yeah.” He told me he was going to sit this one out and I said, “That’s fine, buddy, I got it.” We went back to listening to Roger and ten minutes later someone knocked on the window and said it’s time. I got out of the car and Dunn fell in behind me grouchily saying, “Ah hell, I’ll do it with you.” Actually, I don’t know if he said that or anything, but I could tell how he was walking beside me that he was doing it. Bam decided he would as well and we all went in and got our asses shot real good. Whether it was a bit for jackass, a friend in need, or his beloved Angie, Dunn was as loyal as they come.

I’m becoming upset now because this isn’t right, goddamnit. Ryan, I had to go wake up Madison and tell her you were gone. Do you know how hard that was?!! She loved you so much and I know you loved her, so why, buddy? Rocko will never get to know you like she did, nor will my daughter that is coming in October. I cry a lot about that.

Roger wrote a pretty song for you, but you’re not here to listen to it. And I’m hurting!! We all are because we loved you so much and now you’re gone. I know your spirit lives on in me, Angie, Bam and everyone you touched, but that’s pretty tough to see right now through the tears. I’m starting to ramble now, just like I did at the memorial, so I’ll stop. You’ll have to excuse me, I’m just very sad because I lost my brother and my world got about 134-percent less funny. I don’t know what else to say right now, so I will close with I love you, Ryan. I have a lot of emotions swirling, but I want you to know I love you so very much.

Sincerely and always,

Knoxville

This is a very sweet, very heartfelt eulogy. As unnecessary as Ryan Dunn‘s death is, a loss is a loss and the pain felt by his family and friends is very real and still very fresh. It’s very clear that there is a love and cameradrie among the Jackass castmembers that cannot be explained or understood by anyone other than them. It is my hope that they and others can learn from this tragic accident and move forward and live long and happy lives full of humor … and smart decisions. I’m very impressed that Johnny Knoxville chose to share this raw emotion with the world. Here’s hoping he and the rest of Dunn‘s family and friends will heal soon in the wake of their sad loss.

Hugh Hefner Introduces Shera Bechard As His New Girlfriend

Posted: 28 Jun 2011 07:48 AM PDT

Playboy mogul Hugh Hefner, who was supposed to get married to Crystal Harris on June 18 but was left at the altar just days before the wedding day, has announced on Twitter that his new girlfriend is a Playboy Playmate named Shera Bechard. This news is a bit confusing because just days after his wedding to Crystal Harris was officially canceled, he moved twins Karissa and Kristina Shannon into the Playboy Mansion to live with him. Then, just days after that, he announced on Twitter that Anna Sophia Berglund was his new “best girl” … so that would make Shera Bechard girlfriend No. 2 … or No. 4?

Crystal Harris who? While Hugh Hefner’s ex-fiancée has been busy party hopping and frolicking poolside, the Playboy mogul, 85, has wasted no time lining up fresh lady loves. Just a few days after calling his new “best girl” Anna Sophia Berglund, “one in a million,” Hefner announced an additional gal pal, who he calls “darling.” “Shera [Bechard] is both our November 2011 Playmate & my new girlfriend,” Hef Tweeted Monday to an inquiring follower. Bechard, 27, is a Canada native who starred in the 2009 thriller Sweet Karma, playing a mute Russian girl.

LMAO!! This is so funny to me. I’m guessing Hefner is trying to amass as many girlfriends as possible so that he can show the world that he’s not missing Crystal Harris any more. Oh Hef … you are too much. I think this is really the way that Hugh Hefner needs to go out … bathed in blonde beauties who all look exactly the same. I, honestly, could never see the ultimate Playboy as a married man. He’s a player … he needs to play. I’m guessing this won’t be the last of Hef‘s new girlfriends … something tells me that Shera is merely among the first members of his new harem of ladies.

‘Dexter’ Star Julie Benz & Rich Orosco Are Gettin’ Hitched!

Posted: 28 Jun 2011 07:15 AM PDT

Congratulations are in order for former Dexter star Julie Benz and her boyfriend of 4 years Rich Orosco … because on Sunday the couple got themselves engaged to be married! Benz, who recently starred in ABC‘s No Ordinary Family and is beloved among Buffy the Vampire Slayer fans for her work on BtVS and Angel as the villainous vampire Darla, tells People magazine that Orosco proposed to her in the couple’s backyard with a phat diamond engagement ring and a live Mariachi band to serenade her! So cute!! Read on for all the deets about Julie and Rich‘s happy engagement news.

Actress Julie Benz is taking on a new role: fiancée! The former Dexter star, 39, is engaged to her boyfriend of four years, marketing executive Rich Orosco, her rep confirms to PEOPLE. Orosco, 38, popped the question with a customized Kwiat cushion-cut diamond and platinum engagement ring – complete with a diamond frame and milgrain edge band – on Sunday in the backyard of the home they share in Los Angeles. “It was absolutely perfect,” Benz, who can next be seen on Royal Pains, tells PEOPLE. Nearly 60 of their closest friends and family – and a Mariachi band! – helped them celebrate their engagement at a Mexican-style surprise party Orosco planned. “The proposal was simple and beautiful – and then I was shocked by the pop-up surprise Mexican fiesta engagement party,” she says, adding, “What girl doesn’t want to be serenaded by a Mariachi band surrounded by close friends and family?”

This marriage will be Benz‘s second but considering how happy the last four years of her life with Orosco have been, it seems pretty evident that she has finally found Mr. Right. I gotta say … Julie Benz is one of my fave ladies in Hollywood. I’ve been a fan of hers for years and really grew to love her during her stint as Rita on Dexter. I am so thrilled for her and Rich and wish them nothing but the best for a very long and very happily ever after together. Let’s send Julie and Rich all of our love and congrats on their happy engagement news!!
