NYT critic slams Lady Gaga & Dontella Versace for their “embalmed” collaboration

This is kind of a convoluted story, but it has some good parts. Where to start? Okay, remember how Lady Gaga flashed her boobs when she won the CFDA's "Style Icon" Award a few weeks ago? We didn't use any of the Gaga Tit photos, but they were all over the place, and you get the idea. Well, the New York Times fashion critic Cathy Horyn took Gaga to task for Gaga's usage of vintage Versace. Apparently, Donatella Versace opened up the Versace archives, so that Gaga could wear vintage Versace to the CFDA gala AND in the music video for "Edge of Glory". I didn't know that the costumes in that video were vintage Versace, but it makes sense, given how friggin' dated and "Totally '80s" that whole video seemed. Here's part of what NYT critic Cathy Horyn wrote:

In a week, I told myself, Lady Gaga's vintage Versace studs (seen in her new "Edge of Glory" video) will be history. If that. "Never be afraid to dream," she tweeted to her followers, but I had already unfollowed, like a skiff breaking from its moorings. Goodbye!

….As funny and as fresh as Gaga was in her speech at the recent C.F.D.A. awards, she looked embalmed in the black Versace harness (apparently from Gianni Versace's final collection), and I don't know why Donatella Versace said she was honored by Gaga's selection, unless, of course, she thought she had to say something nice about the superstar. But a D.O.A. video doesn't help the House of Versace. Be choosier, Ms. Versace.

Oooooh, snap (was that too dated as well?). I agree with Horyn's point about Gaga looking "embalmed" and I completely cosign her criticism of Donatella Versace opening the Versace archives. I mean, it's not like Gaga is Madonna! Remember when Madonna and (Gianni) Versace went together like drag queens and lipstick? I remember. For a large chunk of time, Madge only wore Gaultier and Versace, it seemed. Those were good years, and Madonna sincerely changed the fashion industry. You'd think that Gaga would be more conscious of it, then. She probably figures that her monsters won't even remember Madonna's contributions to fashion.

True Blood’s hottest werewolf Joe Manganiello shirtless in GQ

We’ve already seen the actor who plays werewolf Alcide on True Blood, Joe Manganiello, shirtless in several publications. The guy is smoking hot and he’ll tell you about his workout and diet plan. He isn’t conceited about how he achieved it, though, and he recently told GQ that it’s just part of his job to be fit. He didn’t seem shy about posing in a photoshoot for GQ that makes it look like he’s about to have a threesome with a topless blonde and a lithe brunette in Santorini, Greece. It’s all rather racy, but they did got to great lengths to set the scene, showing the trio all over beautiful island while Joe wears the hell out of some designer clothes. To accompany these gorgeous photos they just have a short interview with him online, which I’ve posted below. You can see the full slideshow here.

There’s no denying it: Joe Manganiello looks good without a shirt. This fact has not gone unnoticed by HBO, for whom he frequently flexes as an oft-nude werewolf on “True Blood.” Ask him about his physique, though, and he’ll insist he’s just following the script: “If Alcide was described as weighing 300 pounds with a comb-over and missing his front teeth, that’s what I would look like.” Luckily for Manganiello’s career, he’s not playing a guy with a gap-toothed smile. It’s his He-Man physique that helped turn a six-episode stint into a regular gig, raising his profile high enough to audition for Zack Snyder’s Superman reboot. “He and his wife are huge fans of ‘True Blood,’” Manganiello explains. While Snyder ultimately went another way, Manganiello, 34, isn’t complaining. A few short years ago, he was paying his bills working as a roadie and as a delivery man for a masonry company. As for the new season of “True Blood,” spoilers are as hard to come by as clothing on-set. So, any inhibitions left at all? “Once they yell action,” he says, “you’re a werewolf and you’re not thinking about it. But before, there’s a boom guy crouched behind you at ass level.” Who says werewolves don’t blush?

It’s a shame that he’s not going to be in Superman, which ultimately went to Henry Cavill, but at least we’re still hearing about him. This reminds me that True Blood premieres this Sunday! I hope they vary enough from the preview we saw and we won’t be stuck in fairy land for most of the season. It’s so much nicer on earth with the gritty sweaty werewolves and the slippery fast vampires. Fairies are filler as far as I’m concerned.

“BEZZID.com!” - Linnocent

Below is a "commercial" Linnocent recently filmed in the comfort of her own crack den in Venice Beach. Linnocent is still under house arrest, as you may remember, and she's somehow managed to keep from chewing off her ankle monitor. "Somehow" being "the California justice system is letting her smoke crack in her home while under house arrest." Anyway, this "top rated penny auction website" called BEEZID.com paid Linnocent to record a commercial for the site while in her home. I don't know who this junk was recorded either, but the whole thing looks tragically budget, including Linnocent's interior design. Linnocent looks into the camera with her crack-face all twitchy and "I'm an ACTRESS!" and she sputters out "Hey to all of my friends, I just wanted to share with you a great website with amazing deals that I discovered during my time at home and it's called Beezid.com. Be sure to check it out!"

TMZ says that a rep for the company said they initially offered Linnocent $25,000 for this budget commercial, but she refused. So they came back with more money, plus a $10,000 credit to spend on the site. On one side, I guess it's kind of sad that this is what Linnocent is reduced to. On the other side, she's been doing this kind of hustle for so long, it's the only income she's getting on the regular. She has to take $10,000 payouts from the paparazzi to pose for candids. She has to bring frivolous lawsuits against people and companies, in the hopes that they'll settle out of court. She has to film budget commercials in her crack lair, because that's who she is at this point. Meh. Soon she’ll be shooting porn (and heroin) in her crack lair, and I hope to God we won’t have to see that too.

Are Amanda Seyfried and Dominic Cooper back together again?

Last we heard about Amanda Seyfried, she and douche supreme Ryan Phillippe had broken up again, and Kaiser was thinking that Amanda might possibly end up on Justin Timberlake’s radar since they recently filmed together. Clearly, Amanda had a bit of a thing for JT since she was shamelessly flirting with him while naked during an interview, but whatever. The girl definitely has a type, but JT (presumably) isn’t interested in hitting that because Amanda’s reverted back to a previous douche.

According to WENN, Amanda and her ex-boyfriend Dominic Cooper went shopping together at Burberry in Los Angeles, and these photos reportedly show Dominic waiting to be picked up after Amanda paid up with the parking garage attendant. Although I’m not sure why she’d ever return to a dude who acquired quite a reputation for cheating (including but not limited to fugitive Lindsay Lohan in Cannes) while they were together. Of course, Amanda and Dominic took a break after the Lohan incident, but now all is forgiven. This girl needs a new barometer, and fast.

Poor Amanda. She’s evidently a slave to her own admission, “I need to be needed,” but it’s still quite clear that — other than her appallingly awful taste in men — her own puppy is still the most fascinating thing about her.

Nicole Richie records an adorable dance-off tribute to Britney Spears

This is just too cute. Just hours before Britney Spears was due to perform in LA with her Femme Fatale tour, Nicole Richie was hanging out with her friends, and somebody said something about a Britney-style dance-off. Nicole went head-to-head, move-for-move with a male friend (he seems like a hairstylist type) to Britney's "Slave 4 U". The dance-off was recorded, and Nicole tweeted the video with the message: “In honor of my queen, @BritneySpears - Can’t wait to dance tonight!” Be careful - the sound is really loud on this video!

This is adorable! And Nicole does have some moves! She looks like she practices! I can see her acting all innocent, "Dance off? Well, I don't know…" and then BAM, she pulls out her old-school Britney moves (which Britney won't do anymore).

Sigh… this made me nostalgic. This is SO wonderfully girly.

Nicole Kidman is 44: how she’s changed over the years

All credit for this story idea goes to US Weekly for showing us how Nicole has changed over the years. Her 44th birthday was yesterday. Happy Birthday Nicole! I sometimes skip over doing celebrity plastic surgery stories, because what seems obvious to me as a nose job, Botox or fillers can look like new makeup or a trick of the light to some people and I end up second guessing my judgment. With Nicole though, it’s really apparent that she’s had a nose job, lip implants or injections and lots of Botox, which she’s sort-of owned up to, saying she’s “tried” it but gave it up. It’s clear that she’s not as heavy-handed with the Botox as she once was, or that her doctors aren’t, and that she is trying to lighten up.

When Nicole first hit the scene she was fresh-faced with natural curls, but she gradually morphed into a waxen version of herself. There were many years when it was hard to see her without noticing how glimmering and perfect she was, like she’d just been buffed to a high shine. Then she married Keith Urban, had a couple of babies and just seemed to soften and breathe for once. It was as if her tight as a drum skin had let out a sigh of relief. She’s still just a little too perfect, but lovely. She should have quit with the nose job though. Maybe what’s remarkable about Nicole’s face is that it hasn’t really changed since 1999, except for the little slug-like lip implant she has. I might be spying new cheeks too.

Penn Badgely really is going to play Jeff Buckley: is it worse than we thought?

Last week, Hollywood Life had an "exclusive" that I just didn't want to believe. They claimed that out of all of the young actors in Hollywood and beyond, producers had chosen Gossip Girl also-ran Penn Badgley to play the late Jeff Buckley. The role of Buckley was supposed to go to someone like James Franco, or Robert Pattinson, or my beloved Fassbender. Anyway, I thought it was just a rumor started by Penn's publicist, but now the truth comes out, and it's both good and bad. First, the bad: Penn is going to be playing Jeff Buckley. The good news: He won't be playing Buckley in the artsy Jeff Buckly bio-pic that Sparkles and Franco are currently in contention for. No, Penn got the Jeff Buckley role in a film called Greetings from Tim Buckley, all about Jeff Buckley's strained relationship with his father Tim. While I'm glad Penn wasn't selected for the big bio-pic, I still don't think he's capable of pulling this off:

New York, NY (June 20, 2011) – Smuggler Films announced today Penn Badgley will star in the much anticipated film Greetings from Tim Buckley. He will play Tim Buckley's son Jeff in the first film to be made about the musicians. There has been much speculation regarding the casting of Jeff Buckley as many of Hollywood's hottest stars were interested in playing one of the most remarkable music artists of his generation.

Greetings from Tim Buckley was written by Dan Algrant, Emma Sheanshang and David Brendel and will be directed by Dan Algrant (People I Know, Naked in New York).

Penn's audition blew us away and we knew we found our star."

Ugh, so who will play Tim Buckley? I guess he hasn't been cast yet. While I think this is a great premise for a film - I'm being serious - I have very serious doubts about how Penn is going to mess this up. We'll see, won't we?

Imagine if we get to have a side-by-side comparison of Penn as Buckley and Robert Pattinson as Buckley. I have to say… I still don't think Sparkles would be terrible as Buckley.

Did Leonardo DiCaprio take Blake Lively to meet Clint Eastwood?

Yesterday, Pop Sugar published a grainy photo of Leonardo DiCaprio looking chummy (but not sexy) with a tall blonde who was not Blake Lively. The photos were from last week, in NYC. Now, it's pretty much assumed that whatever is between Blake and Leo, it's not exactly exclusive. Leonardo was partying (and other stuff) with various models and other chicks while in the South of France, and Italy, I believe. And Blake doesn't seem to have a problem with that. Perhaps her game is just that good. I don't know, but I do know that every time there's some random report or even a photo of Leo with another girl, Leo and Blake are suddenly "on vacation" at yet another beautiful locale. This time, Leo took Blake to Carmel, California, which is supposed to be a gorgeous little seaside town. Incidentally, Clint Eastwood has a home in Carmel (he used to be mayor of the town too). Clint directed Leo in J. Edgar, which comes out later this year. Did Leo take Blake to meet CLINT?!!? Oh, God.

On the heels of reports about a split, Blake Lively and Leonardo DiCaprio proved that they are very much still together with an ultra-private getaway to Carmel, Calif., last week.

The new couple browsed the main drag of the seaside town on June 16, stopping for afternoon coffee at the Carmel Coffeehouse & Roasting Company.

“Blake ordered two cappuccinos,” an onlooker tells PEOPLE. “One with whipped cream, and one without. But when she learned that the whipped cream was homemade, she added it to the second drink.”

“She was very sweet,” the source continues, adding that while Lively ordered, DiCaprio, waited outside with his signature baseball cap tucked low. The duo then took off for a stroll.

DiCaprio, 36, and Lively, 23, were first spotted together in November, shortly after the actress split from longtime beau Penn Badgley. The meeting was grouped, and at the time seemed like nothing more than a friendly outing.

Just a few months later, they seemed flirty at Jeremy Renner’s birthday party.

But it wasn’t until May – right after DiCaprio split from Bar Rafaeli – that he and Lively started getting cozy as the Cannes Film Festival ended. Since then, they have most notably traveled in Italy together.

When People Magazine starts to do these kinds of "every nuance analyzed in detail by passersby" reporting, I always think that the details are given by someone's publicist. It's starting to remind me of the Taylor Swift-Jake Gyllenhaal nonsense, as well as all of People's "exclusives" on Jennifer Aniston throughout the years. Is this all Blake's publicist's doing? That might be part of it, but I also think Leo is signing off on much of this too, if not explicitly, then implicitly. He's fine with everyone thinking he's loved up with Blake. Blake's hustle is really magnificent.

Mariah Carey thought she’d get Brangelina-level money for her baby photos

Considering Mariah Carey sold multiple nude or semi-nude pregnancy photos to Life & Style and OK! Magazine UK, it's been surprising that as of yet, no tabloid has managed to get the first photos of babies Monroe and Moroccan. Mariah gave birth in on April 30 - usually, with most celebrity babies, we would have gotten the first photo before now. So what's the problem? Well, Page Six claims that Mariah and Nick were and are prepared to sell their baby photos, but it's all coming down to money, and how "tasteful" the photo spread is. What's kind of funny is that Mariah honestly thought she would be fielding multi-million-dollar offers for baby photos, like Brangelina:

Mariah Carey is shopping shots of her newborn twins, Moroccan Scott and Monroe, but the pop star will have trouble getting the millions she initially wanted for them, sources say. Multiple mags including People and OK! are jockeying for the photos of the 7-week-old twin boy and girl, which will likely fetch a more modest $200,000.

But sources close to Carey and husband, “America’s Got Talent” host Nick Cannon, say the couple is more concerned with how tastefully the shots are presented than any giant price tag.

“Mariah and Nick are more concerned with doing the right thing than going to the highest bidder,” said a source close to the couple. “They’re talking to a number of publications about doing it in the best and most tasteful way. Nick has said on radio he doesn’t feel entirely comfortable selling pictures of his children. But the first picture remains very valuable to the paparazzi.”

Carey has already landed a few covers with her long wished-for pregnancy. She did a “My Baby Miracle” interview with Us Weekly in November. She then posed naked while pregnant on the cover of Life & Style in April, prompting Cannon to joke on his radio show, “My children are going to have to see these pictures . . . It’s a little weird.”

The twins were born in an LA hospital on April 30 but have not yet been seen in public.

“She is still deciding when and if she’s going to [do the pictures],” said a rep for Carey. “She is enjoying being a mom, and there’s no rush. It’s not about the money.”

Sources say Carey had hoped at first to get much more for the photos, possibly rivaling the most expensive of all time. Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie got a reported $14 million for Knox Leon and Vivienne Marcheline in 2008, although it went to charity.

But, “There’s not much movement going on right now,” said a source. “Everyone wants them, and everyone is putting in offers. But times and budgets have changed from the Brangie baby years.”

While I wouldn't expect Mariah and Nick's baby photos to fetch anything like Vivienne and Knox Jolie-Pitt (some say around $14 million), I would have thought that they could at least go for a cool million, right? Nick isn't some big star, but everybody loves Mariah, and she's a superstar. We want to see her babies! I have a question about this too, and it's just something that bothers me personally - is this a racial thing? Do weeklies like People Magazine and Us Weekly NOT want to put Mariah and her babies on their cover because she's mixed race, because she's married to a black dude, and because her babies are mixed race? God knows, the tabloid covers are almost always a sea of white, and it's depressing to think that only white babies make weekly covers - but if you look at the history of baby-oriented covers, that's the way it goes. It would also explain why Mairah had to go so “downmarket” with her pregnancy photo shoots - she’s a big enough star for those photos to have ended up in Us Weekly or People, but instead they went budget, to Life & Style. It's just a thought, a theory, please don't scream at me.

Christina Hendricks finds a flattering dress: gorgeous or not enough boob?

Over the weekend, I published photos of Christina Hendricks at the LA Film Festival premiere of Drive. Those photos were some of Christina's worst ever, mostly because her premiere outfit was absolutely hideous - a high-necked, RUFFLED pink and black blouse with a tragic black suit. She added weight to her figure, and… ugh, just go here to review. Anyway, it seems like Christina is trying to mix it up, or perhaps her stylist came back from vacation, because here she is at yesterday's Critics Choice Television Awards luncheon, looking gorgeous. I prefer her with her hair down, and while this dress doesn't expose Christina's "assets", it's still surprisingly flattering and slimming. The dress is a BOSS Black “Denna” stretch and wool blend dress with cap sleeves - severely cute, in my opinion. Some large-breasted women can pull off this tight-but-covered cocktail dress look. I am not one of them, but Christina definitely is. She should order this dress in ever color.

I also threw in some more Hamm photos, just because. Every post deserves some Hamm. I really dislike his cheap-looking white suit, but I love his beard.
