10 Riffs on Fairy Tales That Are Cooler Than ‘Red Riding Hood’ Posted: 11 Jun 2011 07:15 AM PDT Retellings of fairy tales are all the rage these days, and there’s a good reason for that. Fairy tales hit something primal inside us, so they’re always relevant, and Disney aside, they’re always just a tiny bit scary. There have been loads of retellings of fairy tales around before Beastly and Red Riding Hood hit the scene, though. Here are some of our favorite riffs on some classic tales. Get ready to take your once upon a time and send it to some really interesting places… Related posts: Post from: Crushable 10 Riffs on Fairy Tales That Are Cooler Than ‘Red Riding Hood’ |

‘Degrassi’ Sighting! Sean Cameron (Daniel Clark) Is in NYC Posted: 10 Jun 2011 02:56 PM PDT Even though there’s a whole new crop of stars on Degrassi: The Next Generation doesn’t mean that we don’t have a special place in our hearts for the original characters. Such is the case for Daniel Clark, who left the show in 2007: Fleshbot editor Lux Alptraum just tweeted, Saw Sean from Degrassi at the salon I get lasered at. That’s the kind of celeb sighting that excites me. Us too! Sean Cameron was the show’s first bad boy, a poor kid who fell too easily into gangs and violence even while he tried to romance the series’ then-protagonist, Emma Nelson (Miriam McDonald). He was at the center of a school shooting, drugs and alcohol, theft, and manslaughter… then turned it all around and joined the (Canadian) army. The last we saw of him, he got shipped off to Afghanistan, but not before recreating the photo from his and Emma’s awkward first date seven years prior. Surprisingly, there aren’t any “Sean’s best moments” compilations on YouTube, but I did find this delightfully cheesy Sean/Emma fanvid: And Daniel Clark? He hasn’t been up to much since Degrassi wrapped up Sean’s storyline. He had a blink-or-you’ll-miss-it cameo in Juno, and appeared in a horror flick called Left for Dead. Another user tweeted at Lux that when teenage girls ask for Clark’s autograph “he looks like he hates his life.” We say, embrace the Degrassi fame! Related posts: Post from: Crushable |
Snap This: So a Bunch of Geek Icons Walk into a Bar… Posted: 10 Jun 2011 02:23 PM PDT Seth Green just tweeted this photo of Katee Sackhoff, Michelle Trachtenberg, Billy Baldwin, and Harold Perrineau, Jr. at the table read for Sexy Evil Genius, a new indie film. Of course, in this photo we’ve got a bevy of geeky shows represented: Lost, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and Battlestar Galactica. The sexy evil genius of the title is Sackhoff, who lures her exes to meet her at an L.A. bar, though they have no idea what her devious intentions are. The plot sounds sort of like Scott Pilgrim meets Clue, but the story of how it was written may be more engrossing than the pitch: Scott Lew, who suffers from Lou Gehrig’s Disease, wrote the entire script using an infrared dot on his forehead and pointing at letters and words on a computer screen. Gallery: 10 Movie Stars with Tonys Posted: 10 Jun 2011 02:06 PM PDT The 2011 Tonys air on June 12. Even if you’re not a Broadway fan, you’ll probably recognize some of the nominees, like Al Pacino, Frances McDormand, and Edie Falco. Here are some other stars from Hollywood set who also grabbed Tonys. Related posts: Post from: Crushable |
Interview: Nickelodeon Star Liz Gillies on the ‘iParty with Victorious’ Crossover Posted: 10 Jun 2011 01:10 PM PDT This weekend, Nickelodeon unites its two major shows, iCarly and Victorious, in a 90-minute TV special called iParty with Victorious. In the crossover, Carly (Miranda Cosgrove) and Tori (Victoria Justice) discover that they’re dating the same guy; when Carly and her pals head down to L.A. to catch the cheating boyfriend in the act, the Hollywood Arts kids get to meet the stars of their favorite webshow. Oh, and Nick alum Kenan Thompson shows up playing himself. Earlier this week, we chatted with Victorious star Liz Gillies, who plays mean girl Jade, about getting to know the iCarly cast better and whether the 17-year-old will get to attend a non-TV prom. How was shooting iParty? Gillies: It was a lot of fun. It was crazy to work with iCarly and have all those crazy energies and personalities in one room together. 'Cause our characters are crazy, but we're all crazy, too. It was wild, throwing this all together. There was never a dull moment. The movie was lots of fun; I spent a lot of time in the hot tub, which was fun. We do a really great singing scene. It was a blast. Did both casts record the theme song mash-up, “Leave It All to Shine,” in the studio on the same day? Gillies: I came in with a couple of my cast members, and iCarly [came in another day]; we recorded separately. We ran into each other a little bit. It was so much fun. It was difficult, 'cause they're such differnet songs! The fact that they mashed them up together well was cool. It was fun recording and fun performing it. Do you have any favorite mash-ups? Gillies: Yeah, it's "Take a Walk on the Wild Side" but with a rap… My brother has this online DJ thing where you can spin songs together. Ari[ana Grande] actually just did a really cool mash-up—she did "Born This Way" and "Express Yourself." It was smart of her. Do you guys have your own YouTube accounts? Gillies: I just opened mine; it's LizGilliesOfficial. You know it's real 'cause it says "official"—none of the others can do that! (laughs) I have about six videos up right now. The funny thing with my videos is, I have a couple full songs I recorded in a studio, but when it comes to my singing, I feel like nobody wants to watch me sing for four minutes at a time; I think that's boring. I make these weird little snippet videos. But I have a lot of fun covering little things; I play piano a little bit, so dabbling in that. It's gotten some good feedback so far. Nicole Kidman Saved the Placenta from Her Miscarriage to Prove Paternity Posted: 10 Jun 2011 01:03 PM PDT Buried in this story about Anthony Pellicano, a PI-to-the-stars who wiretapped celebrities’ phones, is a tidbit about Nicole Kidman. During her messy divorce from Tom Cruise, Nicole apparently saved the placenta from a baby she’d miscarried so that she would be able to prove that Tom was the father. Tom never flat-out accused Nicole of cheating, but there were a lot of rumors that she hooked up with her Moulin Rouge costar Ewan McGregor. Tom and Nicole have two children together, Isabella Cruise and Connor Cruise, both of whom were adopted. To be honest, I’m not surprised that Nicole saved the placenta, but I am surprised that she didn’t do it so she could have the stuff injected into her face at some point.
