Gabrielle Union Defends Rihanna's "Man Down" Video, Reveals "I Tried To Shoot My Rapist"

Although Rihanna was criticized for her "Man Down" video by the Parents Television Council, rape survivor Gabrielle Union has come out in support of the clip and even shared her own story saying, "I tried to shoot my rapist."  Deets inside....

 

After Gabrielle Union asked her twitter followers for ideas on combating violence against women and kids, a fan asked her how she felt about Rihanna's "Man Down" video.  The actress responded by sharing a very personal story about her own rape and revealed that she tried to shoot her rapist.

According to E!, Gabrielle first tweeted:

"I haven't seen it yet.  I'll let everyone know my thoughts on it when I do."

After watching the video, she tweeted a few days later:

"Saw 'Man Down' by @rihanna. Every victim/survivor of rape is unique, including how they THINK they'd like justice 2 be handed out.  During my rape I tried 2 shoot my rapist, bt I missed. Over the yrs I realized tht killin my rapist would've added insult 2 injury. The DESIRE 2 kill someone whose abused/raped u is understandable, bt unless its self defense n the moment 2 save ur life, just ADDS 2 ur troubles #mandown."

After fans began to share messages of support with Gabrielle, she spoke a little more about the rape saying,

"Stranger who robbed the store I worked at," she said, identifying her rapist. "He put his gun dwn durin the rape & asked me 2 [hand] it 2 him."

Speaking in support of the video, she added,

"#Mandown video did a GREAT job of getting the ENTIRE world TALKING abt RAPE.  I hope tht it leads 2 HEALING & PREVENTS RAPE."

CANDIDS: Fantasia's Stroll Through London + Meagan Good & Lil' B Shopping In L.A.

Fantasia was seen strolling through London after a radio interview while Meagan Good and Lil'B did some shopping in L.A.  See the candids inside...

Fantasia was spotted in London yesterday, leaving BBC Radio 1.

 

She was at the station promoting her concert taking place at the O2 Arena tonight.

 

And in L.A.,

Meagan Good and her best friend, Lil' B (Ray J and Brandy's godsister), stopped in the Micheal Kors store at the Beverly Center.

 


 

Our sources say Meagan bought 2 bags priced at about $1500.


 

One of them was the Michael Kors Skoprios Ring Tote and she bought a dress.

Both ladies took the time to take pictures with all of the staff and customers.

Using a sample of Doug E. Fresh & Slick Rick's "La Di Da Di," Beyonce's new Kanye West produced single "Party" has Bey taking it back to old R&B.  The song features Andre 3000 and will appear on her 4 album.

PURPLE CARPET FAB: The 2011 CFDA FASHION AWARDS

The 2011 CFDA Fashion Awards were held tonight and attended by some of our favorite fab folks like Russell Simmons, Kanye West, Chanel Iman and Kerry Washington.

 

Chanel Iman wore a Max Azria turquoise cut-out shoulder dress with plunging neck & thigh-high slit last night at the 2011 CFDA Fashion Awards, held at the Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center in New York.    

Sessilee Lopez looked amazing in this champagne gold dress by Zac Posen.

She later posed with designer Zac Posen.


Russell Simmons was there with a date.


 

Kerry Washington looked lovely in this frock, an ivory embroidered alpaca silk crepe shift dress and cream ankle strap heels by Calvin Klein Collection with a grey alligator clutch.

Kerry later posed with designer Francisco Costa.

Kanye West wore a white jacket, light wash jeans, and his favorite Stubbs and Wooten loafers.

 

Kanye West was one of the presenters during the program. He gave the International Award to Phoebe Philo of Céline


 

Model Joy Bryant wore a Rachel Roy Pre-Fall 2011 black sequined mini dress with studded sandals & a matching clutch. 

She later posed with Rachel Roy.


 

Estelle was also there.

On The “Stage Parent” Rumors

“There are so many other kids you can worry about. My kids? They’re going to be all right. I get why people would criticize. But people need to know that Will and I would never put our children in a situation that would bring them detriment,” she says, her hazel eyes flashing.

“My kids have no idea how I grew up,” Pinkett Smith continues. “Even in knowing my story, they couldn’t know what that means. They have no RE-ALI-TY. None. My feeling is, my kids need to have challenges, in a safe way. If I survived everything that I survived in Baltimore and Will survived everything he survived in Philly, these kids surely can survive the Hollywood game. With so many heavyweights surrounding them—from Beyoncé and Jay-Z to Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith to Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony—if they can fail in a circle like that, then they weren’t going to win in the first place.”

“All I want for Trey (Will’s oldest son from his first marriage), Jaden, and Willow is happiness,” she says. “As long as they’re happy, and know how to maneuver in this world, I’m good.”

 

On Ending Her Music Career

When Jaden did The Pursuit of Happyness, I was supposed to go on tour with Guns N’ Roses in Europe,” she says softly.

She turned down the offer and eventually disbanded the group. “It was probably the most heartbreaking experience. But what I realized is that sometimes God will place things in your life that will make you recognize what your priorities are. I adore my son; he’s my soul seed. There was no way that I was going to allow him to do [a movie] and not have his mother.”

On her husband of 14 years, Will Smith:

“We create together; we love on each other,” Pinkett Smith says of the man she still rocks out with to old-school hip-hop on satellite radio. “We raise our kids together. We are building something together.”

“People think that Will and I don’t spend a lot of time together. Too much time, actually, if you ask me,” she says with a laugh. “It’s always nice to have a little time apart. Sometimes you need that.”

If she's changed since entering the business at a younger age:

“Sometimes you have to live who you’re not, to know who you are,” she says.

“That same girl you saw in Menace is the same girl who even then was listening to metal. But nobody knew that. If you talk to the Queen Latifahs and the Tupac Shakurs, they’d say, ‘Of course!’ I’ve always been a lot of things.”

On her kids' personalities:

“Believe it or not, they’re both like me and Will,” says Pinkett Smith of the couple’s children. “Willow’s a lot like me – just in the chances she’ll take. And then, Jaden has the drive of his father. Jaden and I are what I call introverted extroverts. Willow and Will are more pow! Jaden and I, well, we don’t give that to just anybody.”

GOODNESS: Bobby Brown Allegedly Passes Out Drunk On Airplane?!

If you are looking for a summer hotspot, consider Aruba because even the airport cocktails get it popping.  So much so, Bobby Brown allegedly passed out shortly after boarding his flight back to Miami.  Deets inside....

 

Bobby Brown, who recently claimed he's 6 years sober from drugs, must have stumbled to his seat on a Miami bound flight from Aruba recently, after sources report he was humpin' around at the airport bar a bit too much. 

While traveling with wife, Alicia Etheridge, and toddler son, Cassius, someone snapped a photo of Bobby, allegedly drunk and passed out, after too many airport cocktails. SMH.  A source reports to the Daily Mail:

‘It was obvious in the terminal that he’d been drinking a lot. He was staggering and several of his family members had to hold him up in order to board the flight.


‘Security had to check his sobriety and kept him at the jet bridge entrance until finally letting him board.’

And if you are giving Bobby the side-eye for possibly getting sloppy in front of his two-year old son Cassius, don't judge him.  He can live how he wants to live....it's his perogative dammit.

Solange Knowles Goes BOLD & BEAUTIFUL For Rimmel London

YBF Hits The MTV Movie Awards Red Carpet With Tyrese, Lil' Mama & Romeo

Last night, MTV raised some eyebrows with the 2011 MTV Movie Awards--with boob grabs, penis grabs, lots of sex jokes, and Reese Witherspoon schooling chicks on how to succeed without having a reality show and naked pics.

 

But before all that, TheYBF.com was live on the red carpet chatting with Lil' Mama, Tyrese and Romeo.  Watch the video inside....

TheYBF.com was on the red carpet last night for the 2011 MTV Movie Awards and we chatted up some celebs.

Tyrese told us about his new book How To Get Out Of Your Own Way and he shared that FLOTUS Michelle Obama sent him an encouraging letter.  He hopes  the book will empower youth to find their own way.

Lil' Mama stopped by and shared her excitement about completing another year of "America's Best Dance Crew" and she told us that she is in the studio working on new music.

Then we spoke to the fineness that is Romeo--who said he wants to be the next Will Smith. He dished on his a sexy new video coming out that will make folks take a different look at "grown-up" Romeo.  He also said he had a great time on "DWTS" but he is not dating his dance partner Chelsie Hightower.

PICS: Toya Carter Gets Prettied Up For Her New Orleans Bridal Shower

BET reality star and Lil Wayne's ex-wife, Toya Carter, is getting married again.  And she's preparing with her fiance' Mickey "Memphitz" Wright for a summer wedding...just like her girl Monica...and it's set to go down in just a couple weeks.

 

So over the weekend, Toya traveled back home to New Orleans to celebrate her bridal shower with friends.  Pics of the bride-to-be when you read on....

The soon-to-be Mrs. Wright rocked a cute strapless white mini dress for her bridal shower this weekend in her hometown of New Orleans.  And her girls--likely her bridesmaids--rocked their purple Team Toya tanks for the purple and white themed party.

Toya did look cute in her dress and blue sandals.

Toya also owns a boutique called Garb in Uptown New Orleans, and is preparing to expand to Atlanta.  Her daughter Reginae and friend Tameka "Tiny" Cottle weren't in attendance but tweeted about how cute she looked from the pics.  Well isn't that sweet....
