Jesus Take The Wheel: Texas Mayor Fatally Shoots Daughter In The Back Of The Head Then Kills Herself The Next Day

Mayor Jayne Peters of Coppell, Texas, apparently shot and killed her 19-year-old daughter in the back of the head nearly a day before killing herself, according to documents released by police Thursday. The Dallas County Medical Examiner’s Office ruled the shooting deaths a murder-suicide in late July, but Coppell police said they were still unable to determine why 55-year-old Jayne Peters killed herself and daughter Corinne Peters. Reports recently surfaced that the mayor was in serious financial trouble and authorities believe she was still mourning the death of her husband, who died of cancer two years ago.

“We can’t pin down a motive. Only she will ever know,” city spokeswoman Sharon Logan said. According to police, Corinne Peters was seen for the last time on July 12 around 6 a.m. loading items into her car. About 30 minutes later, the mayor was seen unloading the items, police said. Police are led to believe that sometime in that 30-minute time frame, Jayne Peters shot her daughter in the laundry room. The bodies of the mayor and her daughter were found by police at their home after the usually prompt mayor failed to appear at a regularly scheduled city council meeting, said CBS affiliate KTVT.

Authorities have found it difficult to establish the exact time of death for the mayor but determined that she killed herself late that evening or in the early morning hours of July 13. Officials say she had taken a pillow, blanket and book about coping with suicide into the upstairs bathroom where she killed herself. Photos of her husband and daughter were inserted in the book.

The mayor left several notes for investigators; one requested there be no funeral or memorial services. A typed note found in the kitchen read: “My sweet, sweet Corinne had grown completely inconsolable. She had learned to hide her feelings from her friends. But the two of us were lost, alone and afraid. Corinne just kept on asking, ‘Why won’t God let me die?’ We hadn’t slept at all and neither one of us could stop crying when we were together.”

Jayne Peter’s life seemed perfectly normal to the outside world. She was elected mayor of the City of Coppell in May 2009 and devoted much of her time to her position while balancing that with being a mother. However, that image fell apart after her death when it was revealed she was in deep financial distress and was under suspicion of using her city credit card for personal expenses. Her daughter Corinne had told friends she was headed to the University of Texas, but the school has since said the young woman never even applied. Logan said the city attorney determined after Jayne Peters’ death that she charged about $6,350 in personal expenses to her city credit card.

Hate him or love him, there’s no denying that Mr. Camel Knowles has a much better life than a lot of us. His dinner dates even make the news.

Maybe it’s because when Jay hits up a diner for dinner, he’s rolling with these guys:

Jay-Z was recently spotted having dinner with multi-millionaires Warren Buffett and Steve Forbes at the Hollywood Diner in Buffett’s hometown of Omaha, Nebraska. And the internets are all atwitter about it.

Wonder what Warren Buffett, Steve Forbes and Jay-Z talked about the other day at Omaha’s Hollywood Diner?

The result, if not a transcript, will appear when Forbes magazine names the world’s 400 richest people, a list that will include at least one of the three — the Omaha investor, 80; the magazine publisher, 63; and the rapper, 40.

In general, it’s likely that Forbes and Jay-Z, the stage name of Shawn Corey Carter, talked about some of Buffett’s favorite topics: money and philanthropy.

Guess there’s really no better person for Camel to get money advice from. Wonder who Dame Dash is having dinner with these days…

It seems writer Rebecca Walker is not a huge fan of her mom, beloved author Alice Walker. And the feeling just might be mutual.

After years of being estranged, the younger Walker claims her mother has now chosen to be through with her for good.

“She wrote me a letter saying that our relationship has been inconsequential for years and that she is no longer interested in being my mother,” Rebecca noted.

“I have since heard that my mother has cut me out of her will in favor of one of my cousins,” she added. “I feel terribly sad – my mother is missing such a great opportunity to be close to her family, but I’m also relieved. Unlike most mothers, mine has never taken any pride in my achievements.”

“I’ve done all I can to be a loyal, loving daughter, but I can no longer have this poisonous relationship destroy my life.”

Wait. “Loyal, loving daughter?” This is the same broad who’s spent years talking about how terrible her mother is. And the interview in which she made this accusation of being cut off is no different.

“I very nearly missed out on becoming a mother – thanks to being brought up by a rabid feminist who thought motherhood was about the worst thing that could happen to a woman,” she revealed to British newspaper Daily Mail.

“My mom taught me that children enslave women,” she continued. “I grew up believing that children are millstones around your neck, and the idea that motherhood can make you blissfully happy is a complete fairytale.”

“Ironically, my mother regards herself as a hugely maternal woman. Believing that women are suppressed, she has campaigned for their rights around the world,” she noted.

“But, while she has taken care of daughters all over the world and is hugely revered for her public work and service, my childhood tells a very different story. I came very low down in her priorities – after work, political integrity, self-fulfillment, friendships, spiritual life, fame and travel.”

Despite all of this lack of mothering Rebecca has followed in her mom’s footsteps – feminist activism, lesbianism and all.

And if her mom made life so terrible, how come Rebecca’s using her last name instead of her father’s last name – Leventhal – which is the name on her birth certificate?

It only took seven seasons, but Bravo’s Top Chef has finally found an African-American contestant who cooks better than the competition. Imagine that.

The wildly popular reality show Top Chef named Kevin Sbraga as the Season 7 winner, set in Washington, D.C. Sbraga, 31, who hails from Willingboro, N.J., is the first African-American winner of the show, dedicated to finding the best of the best in culinary skill.

Sbraga, who has served as a chef throughout many restaurants in the region, will use the $125,000 prize money to open a new restaurant in Philadelphia.

Not sure we can co-sign him procaliming himself “the Barack Obama of the cooking game.” Even IF he’s using his prize money to stimulate the economy and create jobs.

Chris announced on the station:
