Listen: Samuel L. Jackson Wants You To ‘Go The F*ck To Sleep’

Posted: 15 Jun 2011 03:30 PM PDT

A few weeks ago, a new children’s book was released that caused a bit of a senstation because of its colorful title. The book, Go the Fuck to Sleep, was written by Adam Mansbach and was illustrated by Ricardo Cortés … and that is all well and good. BUT the audiobook version of Go the Fuck to Sleep was narrated by Samuel L. Jackson and that sent the book’s coolness factor thru the roof. Click below to hear Samuel L. Jackson narrate one of the cutest, funnest and best children’s books available for sale today.

Adam Mansbach's Go The Fuck To Sleep is described as "a children's book for adults," a satirical pastiche of warm and fuzzy bedtime story tropes rewritten as a commentary on the often-frustrating experiences of being a parent—specifically the ordeal of, yes, trying to get your kids to go the fuck to sleep already. It quickly became a No. 1 hit on Amazon, had its movie rights optioned by Fox 2000, and now it's an audiobook narrated by Samuel L. Jackson, bard of the F-bomb. And by going to Audible.com, you can download it for free, just in time for Father's Day.

The book is really cute and is worth the read. But, if all you want is the Samuel L. Jackson read audio book version, you can download it for FREE HERE. Those of you who want the book can order it HERE. Brilliant. Just brilliant.

Watch: La Toya Jackson Gives Us Our First Look/Listen To Her New Book/EP ‘Starting Over’

Posted: 15 Jun 2011 02:30 PM PDT

La Toya Jackson is ready to get back into the music biz with the release of a new EP titled Starting Over. Additionally, La Toya is ready to release a new book, coincidentally titled Starting Over as well. HMMM. To promote the release of this new EP and book, she has released a short promo video that teases both offerings. Click below to check it out.

Based on this clip, I like the song. In fact, I’ve been a fan of La Toya‘s music for years. I don’t know about the book tho. I don’t like that she used a photo with her late brother Michael Jackson for the cover … it seems a bit … exploitive. But, La Toya is starting over … so … who can fault her for making a go of restarting her career? I’m intrigued, La Toya. I can’t wait to see more. Are you intrigued, too?

Christina Aguilera Does ‘W’ Magazine

Posted: 15 Jun 2011 01:30 PM PDT

Yesterday we got a sneak peek at Christina Aguilera on the cover of the new issue of W magazine and today we get to see more. Not only do we get a much clearer look at Xtina‘s W coverphoto but we get to read some quotes from her interview and see some photos from her photospread. In her coverstory interview, Xtina talks briefly about her divorce from hubby Jordy Bratman. Check out all the Xtinaness below.

Hello, X-Tina! Christina Aguilera looks lithe and elegant on W magazine’s July cover. The Voice coach, 30, sports long, white-blonde frizzy extensions and covers her nude body with a bouquet of crimson red roses. In the interview, Aguilera opens up about her failed marriage to music producer Jordan Bratman, with whom she has a three-year-old son, Max. “At one time or another we were not angels,” she says candidly. “It got to a point where our life at home was reminding me of my own childhood I will not have my son grow up in a tension-filled home. I knew there would be a negative reaction in the press to my divorce, but I am not going to live my life because of something someone might say.” Since her split with Bratman, Aguilera’s found love in the arms of her new beau, Matt Rutler, who was a production assistant on the set of Burlesque. “He was so supportive. He still is,” she says. “We’ve been through a lot in the past year.”

Some folks have noted that Xtina‘s W magazine spread looks very reminiscnet of anotehr pop star on the scene today but, IMHO, Xtina rocks this look better. Xtina has been a trendsetter for years … if anything, this Xtina reminds me a lot of the Xtina from the Stripped era … so I don’t, personally, think she is “copying” anyone else’s look. It’s a hot spread, y’all. Click HERE to read Xtina‘s W magazine interview and you can check out her photospread photos below. She looks good, don’t she?

Wondaland Hooligans In LA

Posted: 15 Jun 2011 12:54 PM PDT

Last night David and I made our way to the Gibson Amphitheater in Universal City to see Janelle Monáe and Bruno Mars on their Hooligans in Wondaland Tour and we had a BLAST! To be honest, the only reason we went to the show was to see Janelle … and we had no intention of staying for Bruno … but my curiousity got the better of me so we stayed to see the start of his show. David and I were so impressed, we stayed to see the whole show and loved it entirely!

Janelle Monáe is, IMHO, the most electrifying new artist on the scene today. Her music is so inventive and her live performances are always stunning. She manages to infuse musicality with theatrics and has a voice that can blow your mind. I’ve seen her live a few times, most recently when she opened for Prince at The Forum last month, but last night’s show had to be her best yet. I managed to record video of her performance of Come Alive (War of the Roses) … check it out for just a taste of what Janelle‘s live show is like:

Janelle Monáe is a goddess! If you get the chance to see her live … you MUST MUST MUST. She is amazing.

As for Bruno Mars, well, he impressed the Hell out of me. His live show is really fun … we had a blast watching him woo the entire, sold out crowd:

I was actually surprised by how many Bruno Mars songs I knew. I really love that he is teaching a new generation of music fans about rock/soul music. He may have just won a new fan in me last night.

This afternoon, David and I are heading to the airport because we have a flight to Detroit to catch. We’ll be in the Motor City for the rest of the week for Father’s Day. It’ll be great to be back home again, if for only a little while :)

So … I’ll be comin’ atcha from Detroit Rock City from tomorrow ’til Sunday! Woot!

Jennifer Aniston Does ‘Marie Claire’ Magazine

Posted: 15 Jun 2011 11:47 AM PDT

Jennifer Aniston, who is rumored to be dating Justin Theroux, is featured on the cover and in the pages of the new issue of Marie Claire magazine. To promote her new film Horrible Bosses, Jennifer opens up about her days as a working hack before she found fame and EXTREME fortune on Friends. Click below to see Jen‘s MC coverphoto, read some excerpts from her interview and see some photos from her cute photospread with her Horrible Bosses co-stars Jason Bateman, Jason Sudeikis and Charlie Day.

Jennifer Aniston has revealed that she was a terrible waitress. The Friends actress spoke to Marie Claire about the early days of her acting career, stating that she worked as a waitress in New York City to earn money. “Later, I waited a lot of tables, and I wasn’t very good at that,” Aniston said. “I dropped more than one Alpine burger in customers’ laps, and you just do not want all of that Swiss cheese and mushrooms in your pants. I wasn’t a good waitress, but I was told that I was very nice and charming, so people liked me anyway.” Aniston went on to declare that it wasn’t until she moved to Los Angeles that she began to get real acting opportunities. “I was struggling a little in New York, working as a waitress at Jackson Hole [diner], but not really getting any consistent acting work,” Aniston said. “Then I moved out here to Los Angeles, and I started getting pilots and working pretty regularly. I still didn’t make any decent money until I got on Friends.”

It’s a good thing that Jen makes a TON of money making her (usually) bad movies because I don’t think she’d survive if she had to go back to waitressing … but I kinda love that. Jen‘s movies these days may be pretty terrible but her work on Friends was brilliant and will ensure that she is loved by most for the rest of her life. I’ve seen a few previews for Horrible Bosses and, wonder of wonders, it doesn’t look half bad. I might actually have to shell out to see this new film. As for this MC photospread … she looks hot. I am loving this new hair’do of hers. She looks hot … no question.

‘Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark’ Finally Opens On Broadway

Posted: 15 Jun 2011 11:23 AM PDT

Last month the embattled Broadway trainwreck known as Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark went into previews again after the show was shut down for a few weeks to retool the production. Last night, the new version of Turn Off the Dark officially opened on Broadway … 7 months after it went into previews in its first accident-ridden incarnation. Last night’s opening was a star-studded affair but the reviews remain the same … the show still isn’t all that good. Nonetheless, Turn Off the Dark threw itself a bit ol’ party to celebrate it’s opening. Check out some photos below.

Spider-Man reviews were disastrous from the very beginning. The more delays the production went through, the worse the reception got, as Turn Off the Dark became the joke of Broadway before it even opened. But after countless months of injuries, critical trashing and ridicule, the most expensive musical of all time finally reached its official opening night Tuesday. Yet, after all this effort, the ending turned out to be fairly anticlimactic.
Critics have trashed and bashed the musical ever since they could finally review it in early February. But with the debut, they had their last chance to attack the show, or state that it had actually gotten better, if they chose to go that route. However, few chose to do that, sticking to the usual pans and jokes.
Yet the fun in criticizing Spider-Man is largely gone by now, as all the best jokes and verbal grenades have been used already. So after the premiere, the pans were more generic, as all the changes to the show in the last several months only bought it a little more mercy. The New York Times’ Ben Brantley no longer calls the musical an “ungodly, indecipherable mess,” yet he still settles for judging it as “a bore.” Meanwhile, although New York Magazine’s Scott Brown says that the show isn’t a “mindblowingly misbegotten carnival-of-the-damned” anymore, he still thinks that it is an “embarrassing dud.” Although the original version was so widely mocked and resulted in a lot of mid-air injuries, it looks like it was still more memorable than what the production ultimately became. Since it now appears to be just another generic, overpriced dud, the final cut of Turn Off the Dark is bound to be less remembered than the madcap first version. With endless delays, a much more endless budget, Julie Taymor’s outrageous ideas, and a villainess named Arachne that was all but cut out at the end, this production has long become part of Broadway infamy. Now that it has finally opened, however, it has done so with a decided whimper, not with a bang. Broadway has moved past the Spider-Man jokes and bad reviews now that the likes of The Book Of Mormon and War Horse have swept through and won Tonys. These productions and others didn’t need a $60+ million budget, mid-air theatrics, or the likes of Taymor and Bono to succeed on the Great White Way. If anything, that might serve as a cautionary tale for those who aim too high and spend way too much on the stage. But others will probably keep doing it anyway — although they’d have to do quite a lot to reach Spider-Man levels of disaster.

I mean … c’mon. At this point, we know the show isn’t that great … it is what it is. As long as people stop getting seriously injured on stage, I think the show will be fine. Spider-Man fans will see the show no matter how bad it is … and there are a lot of Spider-Man fans. As bad as the show was that I saw last February, I still enjoyed myself overall. Turn Off the Dark won’t be winning any Best Musical Tony Awards ever … but it is a fun show … a bad but fun show. It remains to be seen if investors will ever get their $70+ million back but now that the show is officially open, they should be well on their way to recouping at least some of their dough.

Hugh Hefner & Crystal Harris Comment (Separately) On Their Canceled Marriage Plans

Posted: 15 Jun 2011 08:26 AM PDT

Yesterday we learned the somewhat surprising news that Playboy mogul Hugh Hefner and his 24 year old fiancée Crystal Harris called off their wedding just 5 days before they were scheduled to say their I Dos … and today we are hearing the reported reason why Crystal called off the wedding as well as what both Crystal and Hugh have to say about their wedding cancelation. It should be noted that news of the wedding cancelation came on the very same day that Crystal Harris released her debut music single Club Queen … coincidence? Click below to read all the updated deets on the failed marriage plans of Hugh Hefner and Crystal Hefner Harris.

Hugh Hefner was left at the altar because his 25-year-old fiancee Crystal Harris wanted two things — a bigger allowance and a career in the music biz. Sources close to Crystal tell us she was fed up with the “couple hundred dollar” weekly allowance she got from Playboy — and wanted to make her own cheese. We’re told Crystal purely focused on launching her music career — even with the wedding just days away. Sources involved in planning the massive wedding say Crystal felt like she “couldn’t be married to Hef and have a successful music career” — even though millions and millions of people are married with careers … and with MUCH less money.

It is being rumored that Crystal has been enjoying a romantic dalliance with a much younger man — Jordan McGraw (son of TV quack “doctor” Dr. Phil). According to Crystal, those rumors are not true. HMMM. Additionally, the new issue of Playboy magazine has hit the newsstand with Crystal on the cover. Her coverphoto is captioned, Introducing Mrs. Crystal Hefner … ouch!

On her official website, this is what Crystal has to say about the canceled wedding plans:

After much deep reflection and thought I have decided to end my engagement with Hef. I have the utmost respect for Hef and wish him the best going forward. I hope the media will give each of us the privacy we deserve during this time.

Crystal Harris

And on is official Twitter profile, this is what Hugh has to say:

The wedding is off. Crystal has had a change of heart. / I told the guys about the breakup Monday night & they were very supportive. We watched the doc “Say Goodbye to the President. ” Powerful. / Crystal’s “Club Queen” became available on iTunes today. I hope it’s a hit. / The breakup is a heart breaker, but better now than after the marriage. / Since we’re not getting married on Saturday, I’ve scheduled a movie: “Runaway Bride.” Seems appropriate. / Bridget Marquardt came by to give me her loving support. Very dear. / Crystal took Charlie with her when she left & I really miss him. / The TMZ report that Crystal & I “had a nasty argument,” prompting her to call off the wedding, is untrue. There were no arguments. / My ex, Kim Conrad, & her mother, came by to lend their emotional support. I appreciate it.

And there you have it. In the end, it just sounds like 24 year old Crystal just wasn’t ready to get married … and that’s OK. Look, it is better that the wedding was called off because it would’ve been much worse for everyone involved if they had gone thru with the wedding and then split up afterward. Crystal wants to be a popstar … best of luck to her. As for Hef, well, I can’t help but feel sorry for him. It must be painfully embarrassing for an 85 year old man to get left at the altar by a 24 year old girl … and the new issue of Playboy magazine adds insult to injury (by the way, you might want to pick up this new issue of Playboy … with that Mrs. Crystal Hefner headline, it’s bound to become a collector’s item). I will say, tho, it seems karmically fitting that Hugh Hefner got dumped by the woman he loves after he dumped Holly Madison who loved him first. HMMM. But, again … it sounds like things just worked out for the best (in the long run) for EVERYONE involved. C’est la vie, I guess.

Natalie Portman Finally Gives Birth!!

Posted: 15 Jun 2011 07:47 AM PDT

Congratulations are in order for Natalie Portman and fiancée/co-star Benjamin Millepied because she FINALLY gave birth to that baby that she’s seemingly been carrying around in her womb for the past 25 years. After what seemed (to me, at least) like an eternal pregnancy, Natalie gave birth this week to a bouncing baby boy! Unfortch, Nat and Ben have been pretty stingy with the birth details but at least we know now that they are the proud parents of a baby son.

It’s been a big year for Natalie Portman: an engagement, an Oscar and now a baby! The actress and fiancé Benjamin Millepied have welcomed a son, PEOPLE has exclusively learned. Portman, 30, met choreographer Millepied on the set of Black Swan, for which she later won an Oscar for Best Actress. In December the couple announced that they were engaged and expecting their first child.

Considering how private Natalie and Benjamin tend to be, we may have to wait a while for any new information on their son but I’m hoping, at the very least, we’ll learn the little guy’s name sooner rather than later. Let’s send our love and congrats to Natalie, Benjamin and their newborn son today! Woot!!
